    A lot of people didn't like the game because perhaps it's very difficult and repetitive, the long dark is a realistic survival game, a game that if you don't have the patience you can't play

HORRENDOUS: animations, behavior patterns, hit-boxes, A.I... Hunting is horrible; deers can climb rocks and mountains, but your are unable to jump even 15 cm.     have felt the cold and loneliness in this game. Setting of ten, a unique game of its kind that if you are a lover of extreme survivals you have to try. Recommended on high difficulties for an extreme challenge.

    The game has potential, but is ruined by the lazy devs. They haven´t even fullfilled promises made over 6 years ago. Updates are few and far between, but they sure ramp up their posts in time for a nice steam sale. Just another reminder to not buy early access games.

    This is the type of game that really makes you NERVOUS and on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, scanning your environment. This is the type of game where if you love it you really are going to love it. But i can see why a lot of people have trouble with this game. I've always been big on apocalyptic stories, movies, games and such. But I could never get into the zombie stomping, machine gun blasting types of survivals. This is what surviving is about! you keeping track of your hunger, body temp, thirst, energy. Your clothes get wet and you lose heat faster, you have to constantly look for more resources and, in the early phases, you almost never feel like you are completely safe from dangers. What would make it a 10/10 for me is to increase the size of the map, and make late games more interesting. There should be challenges (but very optional) that you can do to help your chances for the next challenge (each challenge rewarding something that permanently makes your character better (we have the backpack, moose sack ..etc, there should be more!) What makes me stop playing this game from time to time is when I feel like I don't have any other challenges to do other than just going through the routines surviving… Expand

    I loved the first chapter... but then... what the hell? Why did you go from a fair size map to a HUGE map... I mean I tried to stream this game and I got bored.... 2 hours only walking from one place to the other and getting back to the same place...

    The art style didn't really do it for me. It looked last decade or is that last two decades ago? People who made this game never have even gone camping like once in winter weather. I can't see anything redeeming or realistic in this "S U R V I V A L" game.

    I really liked this game. In fact, I am not into surviving games but this one, impressed with story, with characters, with gameplay. Just play.
    Sometimes I bored while walking on long way and night. But this already needed for this atmosphere. In nights you are nervous Shortly good game.

Al principio se te puede hacer pesado ir de aquí para allá por la nieve pero la supervivencia es eso, ir de un punto a otro del mapa y para ello cazar, refugiarse del frío, de las tormentas, hacer fuego, cocinar, hervir agua etc. La ambientación es realmente inmersa y la historia se va cocinando a fuegoNo es un juego para todas las personas pero si lo sabes disfrutar te va a encantar. No esperen un juego de supervivencia desenfrenado. También quiero destacar que se nota que en cada capitulo intentan mejorar y van añadiendo nuevas mejoras y mas objetos como bombas caseras para librarse de los lobos o arcos y flechas. But I can't say that was a grind or something like this, game mechanics are easy to learn, you don't get angry. I think if you rush, you can finish the plot in 30+ hours in your first game finishing. That took more time for me because I was interested in looking for something funny in-game world and the game give me some side quests and funny stuff.
    Gameplay is different in every part because of locations, equipment and weapon changing, you have progression. I think it is the most powerful side of the game. Developers give you different challenges, change your tools and possible solutions, they give your different aims with different gameplay, so I really enjoyed how they create difficulty and other stuff for you. Side quests are not so interesting as the main one, but they are not necessary and you can do most of them when you completing the main one. Maybe you will don't like it but it's not a disappointing thing. Also, I don't have problems with optimization and I think everything is ok and sometimes good for this stuff which the game gives you. I don't have lags and fps drops, the gameplay is smooth. Sometimes you will take beautiful or impressive moments.
    One of the lowest sides of the game is the plot. He is bad sometimes and broke gameplay. The worst feeling I had with the second part especially with the bear. They don't give you a big reason to use other stuff than you have and fighting with him was really bad produced and non-interesting. Sometimes characters with which you communicate are braindead and don't have good reasons enough, so you don't want to believe them. The plot is boring most of the time and badly written.
    You will have a feeling that they should work more on this side of the game.
    Second lowes side of the game - Dialogue. Dialogues are just ordinary, sometimes boring. They don't give you funny stuff or something like this. As I said earlier characters in most cases can't impress you and don't give you the feeling that they have a lot of understandable motivation for tasks that they give.
    I think that game will be nice for survival mode because mechanics are good enough, and you can take a lot of hard, challenging situations that will be regardless for you, also the atmosphere in the game is good enough.
    The plot mode of the game will take 72 points from 100 from me. You will take some fun and will be exciting most of the time, but it's don't leave you impressed. They should save gameplay which we have and improve the story, re-work characters and dialogues. After this work game can take more than 80.

    The Long Dark, so far, is an amazing survival game. Survival games have been all about zombies or similar creatures, never the pure realistic struggle against nature. That's where The Long Dark comes in. It's not a friendly game despite it's soft art style, you will starve to death, freeze to death or die to exhaustion (not to mention wolves). It uses this kind of cell shading graphics yet

    This is an excellent game, the story mode and survival mode are both excellent, I like this kind of game very much. I think he can get 10 points. I don't usually use Geforce Now, but I heard about some bad things from the developers, so I still deduct a point for this game.

Getting lost in a whiteout is one of the most frightening things i have every experienced in my 15+ years of gaming. It is all too easy to get absolutely engrossed in this game and the sense of adventure and discovery keeps the game fresh through multiple survival attempts. Unlike some survival games, hunkering down long term is not an option and you always have to risk your very life in order to continue surviving in the cold, inhospitable world of The Long Dark. For fans of the survival genre this game is an absolute must own, especially since the developers are constantly providing new updates at no extra charge. The art style of this game also gives it a certain charm and uniqueness that I have yet to see another game in this genre reproduce; it may not be the nicest looking game but the art direction is so good and consistent that I don't even notice small imperfections since as a whole it is so well presented.
    Bottom line, if you're looking for an engaging, challenging, hardcore survival game The Long Dark is a no-brainer; and at a very reasonable price point. It's not perfect but i can confidently give this game a solid 9+.    … Expand

The maps are varied and fascinating, with a lot of level-delivered narrative. The mechanics are polished and engaging with a gameplay loop I've sunk more than 200 hours into. The different difficulties are well-balanced and the custom mode is a lot of fun. TheThis is strictly a review of the Survival Mode, as I haven't tried the Wintermute Mode yet. This is my favourite survival game. The maps are varied and fascinating, with a lot of level-delivered narrative. The mechanics are polished and engaging with a gameplay loop I've sunk more than 200 hours into. The different difficulties are well-balanced and the custom mode is a lot of fun. The challenges are all very different and incredibly fun in their variety and difficulty. I like the badge mechanic and what it incentives in-game. There are a lot of playstyles you can adopt, making the game a new experience with each playthrough. To me, graphics/visuals and music are the real winners here, though. The experience delivered is perfect to the detail, bringing you into its world perfectly. It helps that I live in a similarly snowed-in area so I feel right at home. My only criticism, which takes off a point from the score, is the bugs that appear whenever a new map is implemented (which, by the way, are all a delightful surprise given that every update so far came for free with the base game, so in my 2+ years of owning it, its size has gone up almost a third of its entirety). I lost a 305-day playthrough to a death caused by a texture collision bug, which are the most common type of bug I've experienced so far. But they're rare enough to not impact the experience much, and I can't recommend The Long Dark enough.… Expand

    I think its an alright survival game with fairly in-depth survival mechanics that are a good mix of forgiving realism that's also simultaneously unforgiving as well, its got good gameplay and a pretty good soundtrack as well, however, my main problems with the game is that it can be a little buggy at times and the wildlife is a bit too hyperaggressive, even on the Stalker (Hard)I think its an alright survival game with fairly in-depth survival mechanics that are a good mix of forgiving realism that's also simultaneously unforgiving as well, its got good gameplay and a pretty good soundtrack as well, however, my main problems with the game is that it can be a little buggy at times and the wildlife is a bit too hyperaggressive, even on the Stalker (Hard) difficulty. However, the main problem with this game is that after the first few tens of hours it just gets boring. I still think it's worth a try as it is still a pretty good game but don't expect to continue playing after about 80 hours or so until the devs make some more updates to increase replay value and make it more entertaining in the long run.… Expand

They won’t. The game it self is also extremely boring and for a game that is branded as a “realistic survival experience” it’s one of the most unrealistic survival games I have played. I'm only giving it a niner out of ten because they're still not done with it yet. The first launch of story mode wasn't any good (and devs recognized that - hence the redux which ate A LOT of time). I think if theyI'd say it's one of my favorite games ever. The art style, the game mechanics, the sound design (the ooomph in every step, clank, and rattle) really make it something else.     - Far Walks (Time Killer) but it's kind of okay, because you are even more happy when you reach the Target

    Great game. However, on Story mode, you screw up once and dont even realize it and fix it right away, at one point, you WILL NOT progress, just stuck at a death loop. I recommend trying out other modes though!

    Graphics were decent for 2012 but were already dated on release in 2017.
    AI of wildlife is on the same level as guards in metal gear 2, only guard mode. The AI in "The Sims 1" had to take care of needs, here the AI has no needs, just patrol duty.     Game Design follows the dated graphics, like in many games from the 2000s and 2010s this is not a real open world game. Yes, you can move freely, but transitions between Areas are only possible via specific routes. Imagine a chessboard, each field is an area in the game, to switch areas you must move through "transition tubes".

    Despite the game's release in 2017 in early 2021 the story mode is only 3/5 finished and it is expected to finish in 2022, 5 years after the release, with 10 years of development.

    Bugs are fixed very slow, with some bugs, like a cooking bug that did not make cooked peaches warm you up taking 1 YEAR to fix.

    Hostile animals can spawn in front of you and kill you, that is extremely bad as this is a rogue game, i.e. permadeath, where a "playthrough" can take weeks, which will then be lost.

    Instead of fixing the bugs, adding the final 2 chapters, the developers have been busy with porting the game to every game console, with ports for PS4, XBOX ONE and Switch. Of course there is also a MAC version.
    In preparation to the launch of Stadia they pulled the Game from GeforceNow, and put it back on some months later when Stadia was failing.

    One of the best survival games out there, gives you the right immersion to keep going and keep playing. The only part I dont I like is quite recent, I don't the like the timberwolf mechanic, I think it breaks this immersion, but other than that I would give this game a try.

Game threw me an extensive 15 minute exposition scene, which was extremely boring and cliché. I am not really a fan of survival games and this game was really mediocre at best. If you are a fan of this type of game this could be great but, in my case, this was a massive disappointment.… Expand

    This could have been much better. The devs gave up on the story updates, and I'm going to be honest, walking to A to B when you don't know the map it's pretty impossible. But when you know the map the mystery goes away and this turns into a walking simulator, and the maps look pretty small after that. It's pretty hard, but also boring at (most) times.     I haven't enjoyed a game so much in a very long time. Art design is mesmerizing, music flawless and the fact we get continuous updates even in 2020 it means that somebody still cares about this work of art. I enjoy the events as well and it keeps bringing me back to the game. I enjoyed all my 150+ hours (so far ) of game time.     I would wait until all 5 episodes are out. I really like the survival + campaign combibation. Atmosphere and art are great. Downsides are, that it often feels like a boring walking Simulator and the bizarre times he needs to do simple tasks. Non campaign mode seemed boring and pointless to me.

    An original approach to survival games and really enjoyed the mechanics and the atmosphere a lot. The story was rather dull in my opinion and some parts of the game -you'll know when you play it- were rather useless and didn't fit the overall atmosphere but just seemed to be there in order to prolong the game.

And went straight into cave, after i needed to go back 2 times, because i didn't have wood. To be honest and second time i went back to craft torch it said i need oil lamp. So because i didn't take best possible pathing and i am not global elite in cs go and didn't kill instantly all 4 rabbits, now i am stuck and i can't even do anything, i have to just sit there and wait god knows how long, before storm is over ? Btw i eaten fully and only after 4 hour sleep, i am hungry again. You have to drink and eat every 5 minutes. This game feels like a chore...… Expand

    I had about 200 hours in this game on Steam, I bought it when it was in beta stage, now it's to unoptimized for my ol' PC so I jumped on Geforce NOW it was my last hope, but I didn't find the game there, so I went into the Internet and read that it was removed the day before, fascinating!, I just want to play the game where I want to play it.

    Bad graphics, weird and clunky gameplay, no source of story at all. This game has a good premise and poor execution. The cut scenes do have a nice artistic touch, although they majorly lack any depth.

    I purchased The Long Dark on Steam, I should have the right to play it on any hardware or service that supports Steam. I bought your game, how do you have the right to tell me I can’t play it? What if my PC broke down and instead of buying a new one I started using GeForce Now exclusively? Now, because of arbitrary decisions by the developer, I can’t access the games I paid for.
