The Last Tinker: City of Colors

A short and sweet platformer with fantastic visuals, art direction and music. The combat system is a bit dull, so it's fortunate that the player isn't stuck with it for more than the duration of the 5 to 7 hour playthrough. [June 2014]

Much like Koru, The Last Tinker is made up of a little of this and a little of that, but it provides some good fun through variety and unique design.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors is appropriate for kids but oodles of fun for adults as well. It's both a love letter to its inspirations, and a true successor to them. If you're at all interested in this game, be assured that it is more than worthy of your time.

Last Tinker: City of Colors is a charming and very entertaining game. Although the relatively low difficulty level and the cheerful, colorful appearance appeals mostly to young gamers, does not mean that the grown-up... children will not find something that interests them. With about 7 hours of gameplay (add at least an hour or two to find all the secrets), nicely-written scenario full of smart ideas, a successful soundtrack and well-designed characters, no doubt the game is well worth the time you will spend for it.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors provides a great splash of nostalgia for gamers who grew up playing games like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. There are plenty of puzzles in there to keep you on your toes, but the gameplay can be easy enough to let your kids loose on it.

The art-style and characters make it a special experience and even though the final few levels are a bit of a let-down with their formulaic design, The Last Tinker is worth picking up just to drink in its handcrafted visuals and feel-good vibe - when was the last time someone said that about a videogame?

The Last Tinker: City of Colors is certainly not for challenge junkies, but anyone looking for a downright pleasant experience full of charm and whimsy will not be disappointed.

If I had any kids, I'd pick up The Last Tinker: City of Colors for them in a heartbeat. It's fun, it's well made, and it's got a great message behind it. Although it's a bit too simple and on-the-nose for an adult gaming audience, it would be a lot of fun to watch a kid work through the puzzles and laughing at the few references that will inevitably go over their head.

Interesting but way too easy to finish it platform adventure game that resembles the times playing Super Mario 64, Jak & Daxter and many other classic gems.

It never manages to wonder the player, but still offers a very enjoyable experience, and manages to show how much effort and care has been put into it.

A heart of gold surrounded by endless color makes it all easier to swallow, but you're left wondering what could have been had The Last Tinker's gameplay come on as strong as its presentation.

If you are looking for a heart-warming and funny game between all those shooters and dark action games, this is the one for you.

City of Colors blends the aesthetic stylings of platformers past with design concepts taken from modern classics. While this meeting of the times may not be a constant success, there’s enough gorgeous art and frequent, snapshot ideas here to satisfy any gamer’s dietary requirement of primary colours.

Mimimi Productions did it: Finally a 3D action adventure found a home on the PC again. In the end you can feel and see the lack of the teams’ experience though. But even if it falls short of giving the likes of Sly Cooper a decent challenge, this is an entertaining trip into a colorful world of paper mâché.

It had great potential, and it's a shame that it doesn't get a chance to fully express it. The art behind the project is simply beautiful, but gameplay doesn't show the level of polish we expected. It's still a 10 hours long fun-ride, so you might consider it even if it's not perfect.

The Last Tinker is not going to give action fans and people looking for a challenge a ton, but it does offer up a rather fun and interesting game that has both a great art style and a nice, kid-friendly story at a casual pace.

The Last Tinker doesn’t play poorly, just unremarkably. And for the type of game it aspires to be—one that sets itself the unenviable task of recapturing the spirit of a genre’s golden age—an experience that is ”just good enough” can feel a bit underwhelming.

Despite its flaws, this is a solid game to play with your young ones - especially if you've beaten all the Lego games.

Simple gameplay mechanics that never fulfill their potential are something that drag a beautiful game with an attractive aesthetic.

There's nothing deeply wrong with The Last Tinker: City of Colors. It's playable, and in places quite enjoyable, but it's so pedestrian in its approach that it's a disappointment.

A world filled with colours that are talented enough to dispute is just a setting for a slightly confusing and rather dull platformer. Racism as its theme should have been elaborated not as childishly, for children are the ones who probably will not fall for the Last Tinker: City of Colors title.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors certainly has charm and a wonderful colour pallet that smothers the player in a warm and loving world. The issue is that many people won’t be engaged by the stripped down controls and limiting gameplay.

City of Colors is an enjoyable trip, far from the quality of the inspirations like Banjo-Kazooie, but given the size of the production team, which until then was devoted to mobile gaming, it is worthwhile to highlight the achievements, especially its beauty and aesthetic diversity.
