The Invincible is a slow-paced, narrative driven sci-fi adventure game based on a novel of the same name. Developed by Starward Industries and published by 11 Bit Studios. You’ll be drawn into the stunning alien world and feel nostalgic for those old sci-fi movies when you see the retro-futuristic aesthetic.

The landscape of Regis III is as stunning as it is haunting, and Yasna's journey in this unusual land is rife with philosophical and moral conundrums that leave you with plenty to think about even after the credits roll.

The Invincible is a wonderful take on the literary world of Stanisław Lem's Regis III, a hard sci-fi story about the limits of human expansion and the understanding of worlds different than ours. It is clearly a product of love, featuring amazing art direction both in the atompunk aesthetics, the top-notch voice acting and fitting OST. A calming narrative-based experience that manages to do well what Sci-Fi should do, ask those big questions, and make the player wonder about our place in the universe.

Like any good walking simulator, The Invincible thrives on its story. Even though it feels similar to what the book already touches on, the differences are enough to make the game feel new and somewhat fresh, considering how many people may be approaching the game without prior knowledge of the novel. The decision to go with a walking simulator works as far as being able to effectively deliver the story, and it pays off with a gripping narrative, but some of the dialogue sections can run longer than expected. If you can live with some of the bugs that still need ironing out, you'll find this to be a fascinating experience that's well worth checking out if you're a genre fan.

A walking simulator with some interesting decisions and a gripping story that's well supported by its setting and direction.

The Invincible passes the basic test - it's a worthy adaptation of Lem's novel it's based upon. At the same time, however, it's nothing more than that. Add to this the fact that there's not much to do here and you simply get an interactive experience set on a pretty planet. An experience that neither surprises nor comments on Lem's ideas in its own way.

There’s an enjoyable narrative to unravel here, if you’re willing to put up with outdated systems and monotonous traversal. But given its short run time and lack of replay value, for the price of admission, you may be better off waiting for a steep sale or even just buying the book.
