    I have to learn how to play this game, but after I did - oh, what a journey! Yeah, combat is dated and some quests are maybe way too simple, but other than that, this game aged like a fine wine.

    one of my earliest game too, played it with simple MGSO 2.0 mod.
    environment design is so good! many areas still looks beautiful with simple mod! the world building is on another level! even though NPC don't have AI or routine or voice, Morrowing still felt more alive than most modern game world! sadly I can't felt same level of greatness    another one of my favourite of al time!!!

    There are secret cults hiding in peoples basements. There are gods standing around in palaces. You can jump 10000 feet into the air within the first five minutes of playing the game.     When I first played Morrowind I was much more receptive to games than nowadays. So I just fell in love with it and had the greatest gaming experience in my entire life. So much freedom and creativity, brilliant music and artstyle, The story is captivating and deep. As i didn't have internet back then I had to learn all the game mechanics by trial and error method which was fun.

    Ok, guys. It's hard to write a short review on Morrowind because the game is iconic, legendary and it's been so many years it was released.

    Pros.: - Interesting story. It has many details, names, characters. And the twist that the protagonist is becoming the prophetic figure. For the time, it was a very smart decision to justify why the protagonist is cool, getting stronger and finally    Ok, guys. It's hard to write a short review on Morrowind because the game is iconic, legendary and it's been so many years it was released.

    Pros.:
    - Interesting story. It has many details, names, characters. And the twist that the protagonist is becoming the prophetic figure. For the time, it was a very smart decision to justify why the protagonist is cool, getting stronger and finally fights the antagonist.
    - The world. It looks dull and boring. But Morrowind has interesting backstory, many characters for interaction, nice locations.
    - There is a variety of paths to play the game. Also, Tribunal may be interesting as well as Bloodmoon. They expand the story.
    - Main theme is legendary.
    - Memes based on the game are awesome.

    Basically, the coolest thing of the game is the story and world building.

    Cons.:
    - The game is VERY outdated. The pace is slow, too much grind, the game literally forces you to grind, finish many alternative quest lines to actually do something in the main one. The Fifth and Fourth trials are trash - all that running around with stupid quests and begging to be named Nerevarin...
    - Upgrading and lvl systems are trash too - you start the game jumping all the time to boost the skill. You have an alternative of training but it is costly. Need more money from the quests. Main quest line money making is unreasonably low. So, you HAVE to go around and finish as much as you can do.
    - No fast travel. People tell - you need to explore the island. Screw the island - the huge chunk of it is just dusty, ugly ashlands. Bethesda did right when switched to fast travel (that I highly criticized for years).
    - Too many boring quests. Dumb bring-take.
    - The character is very slow regardless of your 100 speed.

    There are more cons. The game is just outdated with its expansions. Better to play Skywind (when and if it's released) which should be adapted for modern standards. This game is AWESOME and it WAS awesome. But its time passed long time ago. And for those, who remember playing it being 14-16 - too late guys. Cant waste that much time for the game.    … Expand

    I played Morrowind after I had already played Oblivion. The graphics are outdated but the scale of the game makes up for this fault by offering the player lots of side quests, lots to visit and see and a wide range of weapons, armour, spells and abilities.

    This is definitely the best RPG of all time, the amount of detail in it is horrific and giving you complete freedom in almost everything is really amazing, the only downside for me is the combat system, and why Bethesda has given up many features that were in Morrowind and not used in Skyrim And Oblivion that doesn't make sense at all?!

    This game deserves a 10 out 10 becuase. 1.story telling : im not going to lie but for somthing writed in 3 weeks its really rich of story and lore. 2.worls design: i think that was the first ever rpg game to use hand made dungeons that were not auto generated like daggerfall which is a real big    20 years wow.
    Its 100% one of the best rpgs made which open a whole new gate for rpg games.
    This game deserves a 10 out 10 becuase.

    3. The equipments : this game has more weapon types then any other rpg game in its time or maybe now made a real good game for role playing
    4. Races and class: in morrowind you needed to be a master of somthing to be actually use it perfectly. There is a bit flaw in here meaning you cant change your class mid game meaning you have to start over to build a new class. If you wanted to be a mage you had to train your mage skills meaning you couldnt become arch mage just by slashing your enemies.
    5. Enemies: one of the most original and cool enemies you will see in a game.
    6. And the best of all was the freedom, is soon is you are set free you can do anything you want you can go straight up go kill vivec a npc essential to the main quest but who cares like any body can stop you, thats what i call freedom.    … Expand

    This game is absolutely the best RPG I ever played. I played the console version 2 times through with different characters and the PC version once through. And STILL have NOT done every quest there is to do. It is a huge open world and the expansions add to it. There is countless replayability, and endless customization for making characters. And even still has a nice graphics engine

    Great game. Its just a little outdated. Worst of the 3 modern games because of its combat and Graphics. We are not rating mods. But that is easily fixed with them. As a base game the game is overwhelmingly brown and not pleasing. But the story and the Alien world of Vvardenfell and its great DLCs in Morrowind and Solstheim more than make up for its flaws. Sadly however an 8 out of 10.

    Skyrim was a game like no other and I thought nothing would beat it as my favorite in the series. So after finishing Skyrim, I began to look for something that's along the same lines as the game. I got intrigued by the older Elder Scrolls games because of all the praises I've heard and seen from them, especially Morrowind and Oblivion. I decided to play Morrowind first because a ton ofSkyrim was a game like no other and I thought nothing would beat it as my favorite in the series. So after finishing Skyrim, I began to look for something that's along the same lines as the game. I got intrigued by the older Elder Scrolls games because of all the praises I've heard and seen from them, especially Morrowind and Oblivion. I decided to play Morrowind first because a ton of people in the fandom objectively thinks that Morrowind has the best story. As a gamer who treasures and regards great storytelling as top priority in video games, it was inevitable for me to begin here, and what a game it was. Story-wise, it's leagues better than Skyrim. Having to talk to NPCs about Morrowind's lore which contributes a ton to Morrowind's phenomenal world-building, and being able to get information about the current state situations of the land has never been this essential in a video game I've personally experienced. The conflicts that transpired the resurrection of evil being on a mission to cleanse its lands of colonials and false gods, and to return the Dunmer race to its former glory. The narrative went deeper and deeper as you progress through the game's long story and it truly fascinated me. It also has surprisingly great dialogue, which was pretty damn weird for Bethesda-developed games because most of the games they make seem to have lackluster dialogue options. The characters were interesting. Caius Cosades stuck with me because of his full display of kindness and respect towards the main character, and he's such a bro. I missed him dearly when he left and returned for Cyrodiil. The main villain, Dagoth Ur, was one hell of a driving force. He's the reawakened evil that wants the best for his Dunmer (Dark Elven) people. All the things he desires seem to suggest that it's for the better, but with all the terrible things he has cast upon his beloved homeland, one of which is by having continuous blight storms that cause people to fall ill and die, or turn into deformed creatures is truly horrible, which throws every convincing reason he uttered from his mouth a lot less believable. The factions had very engaging histories. The Houses being one of the most absorbing factions I've ever witnessed. After saving Morrowind, you definitely feel beloved by the people that inhabit the land because they start to praise and acknowledge you for what you have done for Morrowind, which Skyrim lacked and is one of the main criticisms that the game gets. The gameplay, especially the combat, is quite conflicting. It's great when you know what you're doing, and Morrowind has a much deeper combat and leveling system compared to Skyrim, but it isn't polished and is quite dated. The game mechanics are tough to sell for newer players who want to enjoy Morrowind, which makes the game a lot less accessible and a lot less fun, thus making the players develop the inability to appreciate the full capacity of what the game offers. Morrowind isn't by no means perfect though. One of my problems with this game is how it becomes tedious later on. Some quests dragged on when you don't know where you're going or what you're doing, especially the Hortator and Nerevarine quest in the main questline. Another thing is how vague the NPCs are when pointing out directions, especially if the place is far from the place where you've taken the quest. I've played Zelda games, and despite being very non-linear I knew where I was going and what I'm supposed to do. Maybe because Morrowind is massive as heck compared to Zelda games (excluding BotW), which makes it a lot harder to navigate. I got stuck for hours trying to find the entry to Vemynal alone, not to mention the times where I needed to complete tasks from the Urshilaku camp. With all the things I've wanted to say done, Morrowind has now reached the top of my favorite Bethesda games, and my favorite Elder Scrolls entry in the long-running franchise despite the glaring flaws it has. 9/10, wealth beyond measure outlander!… Expand

    I remember playing this game on my dad's huge work computer back in 2000's. Even when Oblivion got released, i was still hooked to Morrowwind. Morrowind's mushroomy world is probably the most unique among all the Elder Scrolls games. Back in the day, Morrowwind's world felt so huge and varied because we didn't have fast travel or objective marks; finding secrets on your own and solving mysterious felt more satisfying. Although later titles benefit from triple A voice acting and audio, Morrowwind's dialogs are some of the best i've seen in any RPG ever.
    Morrowind's story is weaker than Oblivion and Skyrim but the presentation is done to near-perfection; there's no denying that. Bethesda was able to capture the feel of a decaying world with each detail and soundtrack. Even the opening piece by Jeremy Soule is the best among all the Elder Scrolls titles. I highly recommend playing Morrowwind before going into Oblivion or Skyrim as you can see the basic formula that this game established for all the later bethesda game studios titles.    … Expand

    Morrowwind is not as established as Skyrim in the industry but it is definitely the best elder scrolls experience out there, Skyrim had the chance to earn that label but Morrowwind's was certainly wider across the games. It is weird that how the oldest of the all the modern elder scrolls experiences Morrowwind is the best.

    People keep complaining about the combat mechanics, but they tend to forget that this is an RPG. It's your character's skill that matters, not yours! If    The best game of the saga. Despite of its flaws, such as poor stealth mechanics, at the time this game was released the world was incredibly immersive. Still, when I hear the music I always remember my countless adventures in Morrowind.

    People keep complaining about the combat mechanics, but they tend to forget that this is an RPG. It's your character's skill that matters, not yours! If you want to hit at level 1, build a proper character for it and watch out for your fatique levels.

    + absolutely no hand-holding (compass)
    + no map-click fast travel
    + items in the world do not scale with your level!
    + monsters scale only limitedly (mostly in form of spawning new types of monsters, but you can still encounter some of the high level enemies if you go to the wrong places)
    + lots of variety in locations, very immersive
    + dialogue system (yes, some repetition but stil better than in later ES)
    + a real RPG
    + music!

Over 10 different Guilds to join and rank up in each with their own story not tied to the main plot. This game has so much to do in it you can literally get lost in the world and the lore. Feels much more alive than lackluster newer entries in the series. The percentage based combatWithout a doubt the best in the Elder Scrolls series, a must play for fans of 1st person sandbox RPGs. Over 10 different Guilds to join and rank up in each with their own story not tied to the main plot. This game has so much to do in it you can literally get lost in the world and the lore. Feels much more alive than lackluster newer entries in the series. The percentage based combat and slow move speed can be updated easily with mods. Great on Android via Open Microwave! If you are a Skyrim fan, do yourself a favor and try out The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind!!… Expand

    It's buggy, it's janky, it looks terrible, the voice acting is repetitive, the render distance is so bad Bethesda had to justify it with lore, the combat is broken as all hell, the ai is really not that clever, and yet Morrowind is probably one of the best RPGs of all time. The setting is strange, alien, but rich with content and depth. The aforementioned combat, while broken and terrible,It's buggy, it's janky, it looks terrible, the voice acting is repetitive, the render distance is so bad Bethesda had to justify it with lore, the combat is broken as all hell, the ai is really not that clever, and yet Morrowind is probably one of the best RPGs of all time. The setting is strange, alien, but rich with content and depth. The aforementioned combat, while broken and terrible, offers a lot of options and can even start to be fun. The characters aren't totally memorable, but we all have our favourites - and we all weep when the time comes to say goodbye to Caius Cosades. The quests are clever, usually with many options for completion, and the main questline is surprisingly engaging for an Elder Scrolls game (I only know one person who ever finished Skyrim's main quest, and you probably do too) and the methods of storytelling - with unreliable, conflicting narrators - make the world feel more alive than it has any right to be, with everyone looking like paper-craft dolls hung on wire frames.

    Morrowind looks, and plays, like garbage - even at the time, it was janky - but don't let that deter you from experiencing one of the most unique and memorable fantasy worlds in gaming. After all, it's part of the fun.    … Expand

    Morrowind is one of the best games ever made. It still holds up today, and features one of the most interesting game worlds in any game. I can easily play the game for hours and get lost in all of the towns and dungeons of the game, and the strange nature of the setting and all of the stories going on in the world.

Ist basically an old elder scrolls game but just more difficult and not as much freedom as in Skyrim were you can change class midgame, so if you are looking for player freedom like that this isnt the game for you. No quest marks either so it can get difficult to navigate the open world sometimes.

    I am old gamer, playing games for 30+ years now. My first computer was Commodore 64 and trust me when I say, Morrowind is the best game in the history of gaming. It was the pinnacle in design and gameplay. NO quest markers, no telling you what you have to do. Truly an open and amazing world. NO game ever had atmosphere even close to Morrowind. After Morrowind, all we had in gaming industryI am old gamer, playing games for 30+ years now.     Competes with Fallout 2 as the greatest RPG you can play on your own Personal Computer. While Daggerfall definitely had it in on the dialogue side of things, Morrowind expands on that with more gameplay functionality and thematic immersion. I really dont know what else to say, other than PLAY IT FOR YOURSELF! Its well worth your time!!

    - The game starts out slow. Leveling from 1-2 took several hours. It took about 15 hours for it to stop being slow, but once it gets rolling, it is an extraordinary game. Stick with it!
    - Use mods to remove bugs.

    Comparing to the next installments this is the weakest one for me. Don't make me wrong, it's still outstanding but not as much as the next ones.
    Hope they release a remake of this game with HD graphics.

    My favorite all-time game. The music, the lore, the magic creation system, jumping across the map, levitating around castles... there was no end to the mystery, dangers and hilarious silliness. Absolute endless, boundless freedom.

    Sometimes I recite the opening dialogue in my mind, which I know from memory because I re-played the game so often.

    Rating: Over 9000/10.

    Its a great game, but I just filled it with mods and **** as it was a 17 years old game, it just didn’t achieve the insane standards I had from skyrim. Still, enjoyable besides the extensive longevity of it. I can definitely understand why it is considered a classic

    The game is good but very flawed I wouldn't recommend playing it without mods and if you are coming to morrowind straight from Skyrim be prepared for a completely different beast.     The game has a very deep rpg system with so much to do.
    Also unlike other Elder scrolls game this one has good story.

    The best Elder scrolls game, Enchanting is super fun in it.

First of all you should definitely get mods ( graphics enhancing, bug fixing etc. ).     For it's time, this game was unbelievable. A huge map to explore and an endless variety of weapons to find and armour to upgrade. Better than Skyrim, except graphics obviously.

    In 2017 it's still one of the best and most immersive gaming experiences you'll ever stumble upon. You need to have patience and it actually demands your attention in order to progress. No baby-sitting. Play it with overhaul mods and you won't regret it

    Morrowind is the greatest RPG experience of all time. It transcends gaming itself into becoming something that can only exist in gaming legend.

    My only regret is that Morrowind is so great that we will probably never see anything like it ever again.

I was about 12 years old when I first played it and back then I was always obsessed with finding the most efficient way to play it, putting all my skill points in the right places and visiting the right locations to get all the best loot.     There is only one Elder Scrolls worth playing and it's Morrowind. To be honest, I regret spending my time on Oblivion and Skyrim and wish I had only played Morrowind. Oblivion and Skyrim are the dumbed down versions of Morrowind and everything gets boring very fast. I'd get a HD mod of Morrowind and play it again!

    After putting another 20 hours in and considering the age of this game, I feel the need to update my review. I got over the outdated graphics and repetitive reading and realized there is a deep RPG here that is clever and fun. You see alot of good design elements in Morrowind that are copied still to this day, and in some instances this game still outdoes modern rpgs.

    This is the deepest, most immersive RPG I have ever played in my life. Install the Morrowind Graphics Overhaul to bring new life to this incredible game. Playing this game is like playing your way through an enthralling, 700 page novel. I can't recommend the GOTY version of this game highly enough.

But, the sheer amount of content, and how well the main story and side quest merge together makes this game quite amazing. its big. takes at least 50 hours to beat. and has a huge amount of hardcore RPG elements. if i was rating this game when it game out it would be a 10 or close to it. but by today's standers its a littleBy today's standards on a technical level this game is pretty bad.     Again, one of those games that revolutionized my Game awareness :) i was not ready man, i was not ready for such scale and for such involving depth. It was overwhelming at first, but once i got used to it - there was no turning back, man :))

    Are there titles out there    Again, one of those games that revolutionized my Game awareness :) i was not ready man, i was not ready for such scale and for such involving depth. It was overwhelming at first, but once i got used to it - there was no turning back, man :))

Gameplay is complex, the char creation very free, unfortunately has some weaknesses, but anyway there are a lot of possibilities. You can do a lot of things, even creat new spells. The world is amazing, open world at its best: there are so many things to discover and rewarding. There is so many content to discoverWhat is the best RPG ever?     I've replayed Morrowind recently, and even more recently joined metacritic. So I figured I'd toss my hat in here.

    Executive Summary (TL;DR) 8/10 for its time: This is largely due to tons of exploits and bugs that never should have been day 1 bugs, muchless persistent. (I just love exploiting games, but it is an indication of poor quality control.) The general fun I have playing, the    I've replayed Morrowind recently, and even more recently joined metacritic. So I figured I'd toss my hat in here.

    8/10 for its time: This is largely due to tons of exploits and bugs that never should have been day 1 bugs, muchless persistent. (I just love exploiting games, but it is an indication of poor quality control.) The general fun I have playing, the compelling story, and overall replayability make the flaws it has easy for me to overlook. This is a GREAT addition to the Elder Scrolls franchise as well as to the corpus of RPG games.

    Detailed review:
    The Bad:
    1. Attributes and other boosts aren't checked/capped. There is no upper limit one can boost these to with potions. The number will also suddenly flip to a largely negative value. This is near inexplicable behavior if you don't know the innards of a computer (I do). If you love exploiting things look at the next item for why this is bad even if you don't cross that magical negative flipping boundary.

    2. Some temporary boost potions can kill you when they wear off, if you have boosted yourself more than 2x your HP, and have taken more than 1x your HP in damage that's unhealed. I experienced this with 30seconds of a quick save and 6 hours of the prior regular save. I eventually survived...

    3. Buggy on release. Many of these bugs persist, long after the game is no longer being maintained. Too many mods are needed to fix all of the bugs, bogging down the machine running it, doubly true for the hardware of 2002.

    The Mediocre (Not bad, not great):
    1. Melee combat. It's serviceable, but rough.

    2. Spell crafting. I like crafting spells, but the UI is merely serviceable, even by 2002 standards.

    3. Side quests are a mixed bag for writing and presentation.

    4. In game books -- like real life books the quality of the writing in these is all over the place. The reasons to read them are three fold: a) skill increases (very rare), b) increase player knowledge of the game realm that is Elder Scrolls, c) you actually like the book(s). (some people do!) The reason to carry them in inventory is for gold. Skill books command a good price.

    5. You can talk to almost everyone! But not everyone has something valuable or interesting to say. Those with little value to say pretty much share the same dialogue tree.

    6. The DLC was a mixed bag in my view. For me, the stories for those felt forced at times, with the exception of Bloodmoon.

    7. The graphics were mediocre for 2002. They've not aged as well as one might have hoped. But I still enjoy the game a lot, despite this.

    The great:
    1. Well thought out main story with great writing. I felt motivated to figure out if my character was actually the Nerevarine. This was a very enjoyable experience for me.

    2. The RPG mechanical elements, such as skills, attributes and the like are well thought out, tho not perfectly balanced. These allow for a lot of replayability while having to master new gameplay mechanics each time.

    3. In game tutorial woven through as part of the game at the start. This is a huge bonus as it ensures you know the basics of how to play and manage your character.

    4. Magic is well done in this game and the variety of schools to master is a detail I find highly enjoyable. While spell crafting can be tough for the faint of heart, you have no absolute need for it. You can buy good spells in every Mages Guild.

    5. Factions/Guilds have separate agenda's and their own involved quest lines that can rarely come into conflict with each other. While not as thoroughly polished as the main quest, these are still intriguing and fun to play, especially when you must choose to never complete a quest or to get ejected from a guild. If you don't like such tough choices, don't join any guilds.

    6. The volume of side quests, while fulfilling the main archetypes for quests, is just astounding. You have to play for a very very long time to find, and complete them all.

    7. The world map is HUGE. It's open, more open than even its descendants, and is very detailed for its time. The types of landscapes you'll encounter are varied, and with no loading screen for moving from the swampy areas to the desert and then to the ash-blown wastes that is the volcanic center of the island-nation of Morrowind. But be warned if you try that, you will be doing a lot of walking. Mage Guild Teleportation, or Silt Striders are your best fast travel options.

    8. You can keep playing after the main quest is done! Yay!

    In conclusion 8/10: This is a GREAT addition to the Elder Scrolls franchise as well as to the corpus of RPG games. I find this an immensely replayable, fun, well written game with a larger than desirable share of non-game-breaking bugs. If it had better QC it would have gotten a 9 or 10 from me. But as a professional software engineer of over 20 years, and having played video games since Pong in the 1970s (I was a wee tot then), I have high expectations of software, especially games.    … Expand

    Best The Elder Scrolls at all times. Before the advent of pop Oblivion and Skyrim. was Morrowind. You are not an RPG aficionados, if not when played in Morrowind, its beutiful game of its time. 10/10 .

    The Elder Scrolls tech support forum is overflowing with user complaints about compatibility issues. At any rate, this is still the biggest, deepest, most detailed RPG to hit the PC since Daggerfall, and for that, earns high marks.
