i have to say i've tried 3 times now to somehow get into this game and it is a no-go....

if you want something to compare this game to, go play Gothic 3 which is light years ahead of this game in character, storyline, graphics and everything else..Gothic 3 (2006) came out 4 years after Morrowind (2002) but feels 20 years ahead in everything

that fact that so many people seem to adore this game makes me wonder..it really does

Every time I bring this up, people suggest graphics mods, even though the graphics are just about the only thing I don't have a problem with. Expand

I dont enjoy playing this at all, while I cant admit the lore is rich and cool, playing the game itself just isn't fun. The exploration gets boring after a minute, the combat is unbearing outdated, and its really ugly.

I am giving this a score of 2 as it does have technical merit. The designers put a HUGE amount of work into this game and as all the other reviews state this is a massive and very intricately designed world. However, with the risk of being controversial it is an outdated game and I found it overall a very bleak and depressing experience. The world feels soulless and like some fantasy world post nuclear apocalypse. There is so much reading to do that after a while you feel you should be curled up on the sofa with a Tolkien trilogy and a good glass of wine instead of trying to play a game. As a result tedium sets in very quickly and with the by today's standards rather ugly and disjointed graphics it just becomes too much of slog to get to the end. I think you either love or hate this game. The haters are obviously the minority but we do exist - sorry! Expand

One of the most boring games i have ever played, just a stupid battle mechanic and the interface is just awful. In the same line, the side quests just seem like a expansion of the main quest and in 10-20 hours you just get bored and uninstall it

There is a lot of content here but no direction. Quests start out interesting because they force you to explore and dig in places you normally wouldn't think of going, but later devolve into fetch quests that require you to go to the other side of the world to steal something and then travel back. Guild advancement is unrewarding. I usually got 10 times more loot & gold from thoroughly exploring the area i was sent to than I received from the quest reward. Combat tends to be a damage race of spamming left click while cycling magical weapons. I didn't like this game 10 years ago when I first played it and I don't like it now. With enough mods the bad graphics (even for it's time) can be fixed, but I wouldn't recommend playing it since better games of it's type have come out since. Expand

As someone else wrote, the presentation just does not seem thought out at all. Right from the start you can read dozes of books (which are WAY too long-winded), buy hundreds of spells and items, go anywhere you want, and talk to anyone you want (which doesn't matter that much because pretty much all the NPCs seem to hate you). Sounds like the ultimate freedom, right? But you are not being given any kind of reference system for what is important or beneficial, which just made me feel totally lost.

The whole world is almost entirely grey and brown and filled with hostile characters and weird, disgusting bugs. How anyone could call this beautiful is completely beyond me. Just take the capital for example. It is impossible not to get lost here because everything just looks the same (and not very appealing at that).

This game lacks character and soul. I'll still give it two points for its massive scope. But it is not fun and completely devoid of charm.

2.I think the story they didnt showed it in good visually but I can felt the story is legendary didnt finished the game bro played 11+ hours who know how big is this game
3.The game have lots of cool sidequest and mission have variety of tomb have awesome ghost but the gfx :(

The reason I am hating this game and the way why it should not recommended
    1.The game is freaking old
2.The conversation system died no conversation just you have to read bunch of paragraph and essay finding the mission and paths and story :(
3.there is no fast travel there is alien boat called strider who can passage or transport maybe don't wanna talk about that

5.Gfx is sick I thought witcher 1 is way worse now I can tell witcher 1 is way next gen and fun I want to play witcher 1 again and having fun but this died on 2020 died rip

there is a option in morrowind called "advice'' here is my advice

My advice:- come on man don't be greedy make a remake and bring this game as a 2020 way people will love bethesda this legendary game should remove from steam like legendary game arnea and daggerfall this game should sealed as legend not bully by steam user in 2020 so if new user say what should we do there is a new version of morrowind in the elder scroll online you guyz should check it out its cool

so that was my review I was listening to the morrowind theme :( I was feeling very emotional to writing this bad review ;(

It is a basically unplayable mess, you move so slowly that is totally shatters any immersion or fun. The writing, unironically, is some of the worst I have seen in a long time. It is just flat dialogue with no flavour, and reads more like wikipedia articles than actual human speech. This is very damaging to immersion in the world and care for the characters, which can be explained in this quote from Bahktin, "dialogue is the single adequate form for verbally expressing authentic human life, in it, a person participates wholly and throughout his whole life: with his eyes, lips, hands, soul, spirit, with his whole body and deeds. He invests into the dialogue fabric of human life, into the world symposium", this quote is very true, for dialogue is the ultimate in self-expression of one's identity, ideals, and convictions. Therefore, poorly written dialogue can be greatly damaging to the quality and relatability of the characters involved, and, as a result, the story as a whole. It is just bad and lack any sense of connection one can feel with the world. And the lore is made extremely dull for a lack of releveance, mixed in with it being poorly written to begin with. Gameplay is dull and boring, both having dull and immersion breaking movement speed, the UI being clunky, ugly, and hard to actually use. The graphics were dreadful even for its time. Looks like its from mid-Nineties. It is simply slashing and hoping you actually manage to hit. And dying many a time do to how the game is not based on skill, but pure luck, and nothing else. You win through being lucky and having good items, not through any form of skill or strategy like many I have seen claim it to be. It is also extremely unoriginal in its lore. With basically no original ideas at all. Not even an original way of implementing ideas, it is just, dull and lifeless. Taken from far better and more interesting works. Tonal Magic, Elves, Dwarves, the structure of Tamriel-Oblivion-Aetherius is just Ea-Void-Timeless Halls, from Tolkien. Dark Elves from DnD, it is just, every single feature of it, even those that seem unique, were directly ripped from somewhere else. Without even an attempt to make it new or unique. The lore also very rarely ties into the world you see, and it only does Telling, amd actively avoids Showing, when one should do more showing than telling, to paraphrase Anton Chekov, "don't tell me the moon is shining, show me the glint of light in broke glass", or as said by Ernest Hemingway, "If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about, he may omit things that he knows ans the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due ti only one-eighth of it being above water", that is to say, it is mot only unnecessary to explain everything, but it also is poor writing to do big swathes of exposition, instead of respecting the player/reader enough to *show* them that information through various aspects. And being able to see the effects of lore, tends to make it less of a bore, and also increases retention od the information shared. And it has no Osttaneiniye, it doesn't five you a different way to view the world you see. Nor does it give one a better understanding of the events. All it does it just say a random assortment of poorly thought out ideas which it gives us no reason to care about. It simply expects people to inherently care about distant, and irrelevant events or peoples that you do not ever see come to relevance or tie into the world you experience. It is also communicated in a way that purposely obsfucates what it is trying to say, attempting to mimick the poetic style of religious texts, without actually understanding the process behind said style, and the way in which it still manages to communicate information effectively. Those who talk about how good the writing is are speaking utter bushwah, and need to actually read novels to see how the writing is actually below average, and barely functions. But this is atound all I can say jn this post. I do not hate people for liking the game, I just hate the game and am annoyed at how it is praised as a masterpiece of writing, when the writing is deeply and fundamentally flawed and poorly done; and the gameplay and graphics are also atrocious, thus cannot save its bad writing. But the deal-breaker for me was that, something about the visuals caused me vertigo. No matter the adjustments I did. Tried switching perspective, reducing head-bob, and just about any other recommended tweak. I couldn't play for more than 45 minutes without getting nausea. The funny thing is that a friend also got vertigo from the game, but playing it in a console (PS). I looked around and vertigo seems to be an issue for some people.
So, no, I wouldn't recommend this game.

  1. One of those games that just visually takes your breath away. It has some of the most detailed, and well realistically rendered environments and characters ever seen in a computer game.
  2. The Elder Scrolls tech support forum is overflowing with user complaints about compatibility issues. At any rate, this is still the biggest, deepest, most detailed RPG to hit the PC since Daggerfall, and for that, earns high marks.
