Afterbirth+ manages to thematically build on the outstanding foundations laid for it by Rebirth and Afterbirth, with spellbinding and horrifying new features dragging us back into the basement for hundreds of hours more.

Afterbirth+ manages to thematically build on the outstanding foundations laid for it by Rebirth and Afterbirth, with spellbinding and horrifying new features dragging us back into the basement for hundreds of hours more.

Initially, it doesn't seem like much has changed, with the lower floors feeling like a minor expansion rather than anything meaningful. However, the further you go down the rabbit hole, the crazier things become, with new enemy patterns to learn, new items to work out and a whole new character with a very unique active item to master.

Due to not reading spoilers (and I'm doing my very best not to give any away here), reaching the culmination of the game for the first time was an experience to remember - one of the most creative and shocking encounters I've yet witnessed in a video game.

All that said, Afterbirth+ will not change your mind if you were not a fan of the games before it, but you will love it if you are an existing fan - which given this is an expansion is just fine. It's worth the money, and it's a fitting send-off for a fantastic game.

One minor note - to compare this game to the fan-made expansion Antibirth... I will say that Antibirth actually has more content and changes the game more spectacularly than Afterbirth+, and is certainly worth playing in its' own right - however, I do feel Afterbirth+ has added things that thematically make sense, as in it fits into the lore of the game, whereas Antibirth (with things like mine levels, which really don't fit the game) does not do as well. It's best to imagine both as two sides of the same coin that you can enjoy independent of one another.

a horrible final boss ,unfair enemy placement, and a half decent item pool ruin what could have been a perfectly good expansion , AB+ is only good for the mods

This is one of the few expansion that actively decreases the overall quality of the game it is attached to.

Неплохое дополнение к основной игре, нравится перепроходить уровни, постоянно новые артефакты и брелоки, что делает игру более вариативной.

TBOIAB+ is not perfect, the last level is just a mix of other levels, the last boss is unfair, but the new items are nice and support mods in steam

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ adds more of what we loved about the original and keeps the formula fresh. It’s a tough game, but one that balances challenge with a refreshing feeling of the unexpected. The unpredictable items and varied enemies make it one of the most wacky and replayable games I’ve ever experienced.

Afterbirth+ completes the package and in that respect, purchasing it will give you the definitive Isaac experience. But I can’t help but feel that it’s overpriced. A safe tack on to a game that’s finally rounded off, yet somewhat exhausted.

So even if you are left a little cold or annoyed by Afterbirth+ and its seemingly small pool of additions, the package does have something for everyone. New fans may need to look to mods to even make progress in the “story,” but older fans should be more than pleased with this final chapter of Isaac’s tale.
