Jul 31, 2024Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss tasks you with solving an incredibly engaging mystery in an incredibly unique and terrifying deep sea setting. A fantastic story and heartwrenching ghosts await you in this thalassophobic thriller.

Sep 3, 2024As noted, this kind of experience isn't going to be for everyone. If you're looking for a more hands-on title with a more significant level of challenge, you may be best served elsewhere. If you enjoy a more narrative experience built around exploration without combat or demanding mechanics, you'll find a lot to love. As someone firmly in the latter camp, it's easy for me to recommend Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss as a welcome and high-quality addition to its genre.
-
Aug 2, 2024Like a Sherlock Holmes investigation at the bottom of the sea, there are many compelling secrets to be unveiled in the gorgeous underwater scenery of Thalassa’s titular sunken ship.

Jul 31, 2024Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is one of those games that’s best played blind. It’s a grounded yet enthralling mystery that uses its light clue-combining mechanics to convey an emotional journey of closure and grief. Its puzzles get you thinking without ever being too hard, allowing the story to naturally play out in the lonely ruins of this sunken ship.
-
Aug 2, 2024Your journey through this evocative world is steeped in history, memories, love and loss, but you're simply walking through it to add yet another puzzle piece to the board. There’s no action, at least not in a traditional sense, and therefore its appeal can start to wane towards the end. Personally, I felt the story overstayed its welcome. Although, I will concede and say I was most impatient to learn the truth of the events that befell the crew, so maybe that played a part in my longing to see the finish line.

Aug 1, 2024Immersive, deep and immersive... oh well, sorry for the sketch, Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is a pleasant and detailed story that starts with the aim of detailing a painful story, made up of the various crew members, who have interesting subplots. The game design then focuses on offering a great way to tell one's story, especially to those looking for a fairly long-lived and intense experience. It is a video game that, however, could have dared a little more.
-
Jul 31, 2024Filled with engaging puzzles and a story that's both compelling and deeply emotional, there's a lot to love about Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss. Some of its mechanics are a little clunky, and there's the odd technical issue, but they're worth overlooking for the mystery that awaits under the waves.
-
Jul 31, 2024I can’t really talk about the climax of the game’s narrative without wandering into spoiler territory as before, but it’ll sum it up thusly - Thalassa’s story is something that only gets better as it goes.
-
Aug 8, 2024There is a moderately intriguing narrative in Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss as you solve mysteries within a well-preserved shipwreck, but flimsy clues, tedious wandering, and technical blemishes mean playing it can be like fighting to keep your head above water.
-
Jul 31, 2024As long as you are prepared for some sluggish movement, Thalassa is a story-driven game that delivers where it counts most, with mysteries, characters and themes that make an impression.
-
Jul 31, 2024Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is a walking simulator with a compelling story, but it feels and looks like a game from at least ten years ago.
-
Jul 31, 2024There’s some unevenness at times with the game’s pacing, which probably comes in part down to its relatively open nature.
