Tembo The Badass Elephant is really truthful to its name, thanks to a furious and exciting gameplay, perfectly tailored for all the fans of the platform genre. There's nothing really original here, but nonetheless Tembo is incredibly fun. Kudos to Game Freak.

Frantic and, at the same time, fun.

Tembo the Badass Elephant succeeds as a game about momentum but fails to make the overall package as solid as it could be.

In terms of variety Tembo can’t challenge Rayman. But this destructive elephant delivers a rock solid platformer experience.

The imperative "farming" of levels and the frustratingly sensitive controls deprive Tembo The Badass Elephant from being declared as an instant-classic.

Entertaining action platformer for a small price. The points needed to unlock certain levels feel are an unnecessary limit.

Tembo takes some notes from Metal Slug, but his closest relative is Sonic. While it’s not strictly necessary to keep your speed at maximum, it’s highly recommended to do so: our elephant may be a badass, but he goes down after a few hits, so speed in his case equals survivability. While certainly lacking variety and neat ideas to compete with the likes of Rayman and Mario, Sega's new character Tembo more than holds its own.

The biggest flaw of this very enjoyable platformer is that it’s too short. [10/2015, p.71]

While this isn’t a classic like Donkey Kong Country Returns or Rayman Legends, there is a lot to like with your short time with Tembo The Badass Elephant, and it goes to show that Game Freak are more than just “that Pokémon company.”

Tembo The Badass Elephant is a pretty fun side-scrolling platform game. The game mechanics are solid, but the level design by Game Freak is too simple.

Tembo isn't a perfect game, but it is a game we enjoyed. It you're looking for a fresh and fun platformer, this is a good option.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. We love what Game Freak did with Pokemon, but Tembo The Badass Elephant is not so special. It is just a standard platform game without adding anything new to the genre. Very unfortunate, as the fun and crazy cartoon theme is badass.

All this makes Tembo a fine game where the really bad, really rough parts are REALLY bad and REALLY rough, in a way that brings the rest of the game down.

Tembo is fun, for sure. Fast, addictive, the gameplay is dynamic and powerful. Unfortunately, there are often too many obstacles that slow the pace of the game, and it's quite a shame.

Try it if you have found modern platforming games to be too "soft."

Overall Tembo feels like a classic platformer in a good way, it mixes elements from great games of the genre to make a very enjoyable and addictive one, if you love 2D platformers you need to give it a chance.
