Despite its technical mishaps which has been acknowledged and will receive a patch soon (FPS and input lag) this game is huge! And packed with content. Massive world. Best SAO game to date and a solid JRPG on its own merits. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Best Sword Art Online-game and a must-buy for every SAO- and jrpg-fan! Graphics look stunning (for a SAO-game at least), gameplay is much slower (thus more authentic) and more direct, story is also far more detailed and interesting (Kirito strands in a VR-world and he doesn't know why and how he gets out of it) with several mysteries that are to be solved (like the overrealistic NPCs and Kiritos memories of his past that did never happen (?) etc.) while exploring a semi-open world with many side stories and quests. A step forward in every aspect from Hollow Realization (the last SAO-game from developer Aquria). Expand

Очень добротная игра по аниме, несмотря на некоторые проблемы с оптимизацией. Но думаю, что это исправят. Советую к прохождению, если вы фанат данного жанра и вселенной SAO

I have to say this review is going to be based on my time with the game and not what I have read up.

So let's start with the good; For a game that is based off an anime I have to say they have done their spin on it very well, allows everyone to understand/recap what happens in the anime, but then takes it's own spin on things once you get to the end of season 1 in Alicization. The game

So let's start with the good; For a game that is based off an anime I have to say they have done their spin on it very well, allows everyone to understand/recap what happens in the anime, but then takes it's own spin on things once you get to the end of season 1 in Alicization. The game has run well for me despite being out for less than a month, and I haven't updated my GPU drivers which I normally do. Design-wise, they have kept to what they used for previous games which was nice to see.

The bad; Despite the game running well and having no issues in terms of FPS or load times, my game has crashed twice on me, though both times were running Shadowplay in the background for some recording. Could have been a fault in the optimization that wasn't expected? There is also the lack of save points during certain main quests that can set you back if you crash, die, have to leave the game for whatever reason may occur. Both of these are getting looked into luckily, so this isn't a true downside to the game as they are already in the fixing. My biggest issues I personally have found whilst playing have been two things. The design behind some NPC's heads are overshadowed and this repeats due to the amount of NPC's you have, you can't have a fully unique NPC. The second is the lack of camera control you get at times when playing on the mouse, I have even managed to make myself dizzy when going into a conversation with an NPC and held down right-click and moved my mouse slightly, sending the screen spiraling. I do have a concern when they make the camera movement not require the right-click that it causes more problems then fix, but we will see when the patch releases.

I personally haven't found any bugs or exploits from my time playing and I know some of the things I have mentioned in this review others are having issues with, so everyone's view on it will vary.

Overall, I am loving this game. Kept to the original concept of the JRPGMMO whilst not being a full MMO. Grind and RNG. Would love to see them fix a few things, not for myself but for others, and to see where they take the story from here

For my taste there is too little gameplay between the many dialogue sequences.

With an expansive main campaign that takes far too long to get started and quite a few underdeveloped mechanics, this Sword Art game is a tough sell for anyone but the most dedicated fans.

Fun combat and decent characters aren’t enough to save a convoluted story, terrible pacing, and tons of performance problems.
