I don't think a game was able to f with you my mind like this since Eternal Darkness. Gameplay is amazing and unique, have never played something quite like that.

Fresh, innovative, to the point, it might be short, but it's very replayble and the gameplay is gorgeous and it has nice mechanics. That being said, the story is forgettable and the color palette made the levels look so similar between one and the other that it can get repetitive at times, but the references and the replay feature makes up for them.

I really recommend to try this thing

    The good:
    - time moves only when you move (but bullets still fly, although slowly, even when time is stopped), an innovative idea!
    - an interesting system of menus, resembling that of Norton Commander and DOS. It was fun to just explore every "file" there and see the game of life simulation and other useless stuff

    The so-so:
    - laconic, minimalistic graphical design. I didn't like it much but didn't hate it either
    - actions like punching an enemy, taking a gun, firing a gun all take some real time which isn't obvious at first and caused me some frustration in the early levels.

    The bad:
    - the levels are just scripted sequences. You mostly stay at the same place, and enemies run from all directions, from behind doors and start shooting at you. This means that you will restart and restart the same level until you know where everyone will appear until you can beat it. Or you can rotate the camera after every step so as to see if anyone new has appeared behind you. Not a very pleasant experience.

Ultimately, this game is very shallow. As soon as the novelty wears off and you "get it", there isn't much left. But it's still worth a look.

Think of SUPERHOT like Portal. The core gameplay isn't much new, but the element of stopping time requires thought, trial, error, and planning. Each level is a short burst of scenario gold. One might be an instigated bar fight, another a parking garage shootout, and another a rooftop brawl. The gameplay is a major strength here, the only problems being more of a nuisance than actual problems. The controls, specifically the mouse controls, can feel a little on the undersensitive side, but the other aspects are perfectly easy to learn. The story is, again, not much new, but it's presented in a minimalistic, meta-fictional way that its intriguing throughout the 2-3 hour playthrough. It's the type of element that isn't going to be the first thought on any players' mind, but the developers clearly thought it through and wrote a sizeable chunk of good narrative. Graphically, it doesn't disappoint. It's simple, polygonal, and stark, with white backgrounds and set-pieces, red enemies, and black objects and weapons. It looks great using this style of technologically inspired assets and will surprise many. The game finally recognizes its strength; after beating the story, a few other modes are unlocked, a challenge mode and an endless mode. Both of these require little explanation but know that they will both extend your playtime pretty far ahead. Is it worth $25? I'm not entirely convinced. But if you like the sound of the game, go ahead and make the purchase, and you'll find a great game here. If you skeptical, like I was, wait for a Steam sale or something and buy then. Expand

Fresh and fun mechanics that revolve around managing time as it relates to your movements in space. The game is structured in a sequence of action set pieces that are in their essence, dynamic puzzles that can be solved in a variety of ways. Chaining gun and combat actions with fluidity is entertaining and very satisfying. Can be beaten in about two hours, recommended at a bargain price.

I think Hotline Miami did this better, much due to it's visuals, audio, and enemy/weapon variety. SUPERHOT doesn't really use its gimmick to propel itself very far and there are not all that many weapons to use or different enemies to fight. It feels lesser, and it's arguable if the price justifies the content amount.

However, what's there is decently fun just out of the fact that slow motion is satisfying and the Hotline Miami formula is a good one. Would pick up on a sale.

When I initially booted up SUPERHOT I was not at all certain what to expect. Minus a few screenshots I went into the game blind. I did not really know exactly what sort of game it was, but I walked away wanting much, much more.

The unique MS-DOS menu system sets the tone for the game, and how the story begins via a cryptic chat message from another coworker in the network that you, the player, must check out this new program. It “downloads” into your machine and you play your first round of SUPERHOT.

Everything but the gun, which is black, and the enemies, which are red is white. White cars, white corridors, white walls, white stairs...yet the game isn’t boring or bland. There is beauty in the simplicity. Whenever you shoot or smash one of your enemies they fall apart into thousands of polygon and disappear to the ground. The simple art style doesn’t get boring, because without the simple color contrasts you would get lost and never be able to complete the game’s unique take on missions.

Here’s the situation… whenever you move an enemy moves or raises their gun or shoots at you. If you stand still, they’re frozen in time. Every move has to be calculated exactly which makes the firefights more intense than anything a Call of Duty or Battlefield could offer. While not fast-faced, the strategic element of each move you make is critical to your success in wiping out enemies.

It isn’t just strategic ducking and shooting either, as you continue through each level a new layer of difficulty or advantage to you the player gets added being learning how to jump, or punch guns out of the hands of the fierce, red enemies. Either way they build and build on the fun and leave you wanting more.
The replayability of this game is high, especially if you want to go for the fastest time and truly master the best way (and there are many) to complete the puzzle. At many points throughout my experience I found myself completely abandoning my gun and just slowly dodging bullets and punching guys.

This game is proof that some of the most creative experiences are coming from the indie scene and I cannot recommend it enough.

And... that's it. Yes, nothing else. Story is awful (well, barely exists actually, but what is there is awful), progression is poor and you've seen everything there is to see inside around 20 minutes. You'll have fun for a bit after that with the challenge modes and so on, but you'll get around two hours out of this game before you're totally done with it.

It's a great proof of concept, but that really is all. Portal 2 understood that a concept is one thing but fleshing it out into a masterful experience is quite another; SUPERHOT definitely does not understand that. If this was expanded on with an exceptional narrative experience and a few more variations on the mechanics (perhaps boss fights and so on?), then you'd be looking at a game of the year candidate. As it is, it's a demo of the year candidate.

Whereas many strategy or puzzle games last much longer than they should or wrap up much sooner than anticipated, I think Superhot nails just about the right amount of time to place an emphasis on standard gameplay. Before things can get too overused or stale the main content is over and it's onto the seemingly neverending variations of levels available to test yourself with. To add to replay value there are also differing "modes" that prevent the use of certain items or make the main objective be that you complete the level in a specific fashion, furthering adding elements of strategy and puzzle to the gameplay. Simple in concept and only relatively more complicated in execution, Superhot is super and it is hot.

Concept: Take the core of gameplay from any shooter and that gameplay will revolve around shooting, plain and simple. It's in the title just like it's in gaming DNA. Now add a twist where the entire thing moves in slow motion and you're prone to insta-kill enemies just as they can do so to you. Messes with your mind a little bit at first doesn't it?

Graphics: I personally loved the art style that permeates this world. Your enemies are brightly colored but not so detailed as to be fleshed out beyond mere polygonal shapes. The same can be said for the surrounding world, which lacks color but remains sharp and clear in its definite shapes and settings.

Sound: The sound work is nothing special or remotely spectacular but what it does is excellent pace the game along so that you never feel like you're chugging along slowly, rather playing through in a blur of speed alongside the constantly crescendoing and galloping soundtrack.

Playability: There should be no confusion here once the controls have been established, as your one and only goal is to move forward at all costs, eliminating those who dare to stand in your way and doing your best to survive their counterattacks.

Entertainment: For a title that revolves around slowing combat down, I never once felt bored or tired of the matters at hand and instead felt that much more tense and anxious as I made my way slowly but surely through the levels and the world.

    Replay Value: Moderately High.

    Overall Score: 8.0

SUPERHOT has a new and innovative concept that I find really cool. This review would be 10/10 if not for the price. $23 is a bit too much for a game that does not have a lot of gameplay. $10-$15 would be a great spot for the price of the game. It's really well told in the short hour and a half that it lasts. It may seem short, but for the style this game was designed in, I would say it's a good length. Good innovative game concept. I really enjoyed playing it.
Interesting artistic style and good gameplay but the campaign is short

Still a good game i recommend you to play it.

Yes, the story is short but it's also infinitely massive in the Endless mode is so goddamn beautiful. And the Challenges are just cherries on a very sweet cake.

The story is not the elephant in the room, it's the game mechanics. SUPERHOT is a fresh and interesting take on the continuous way of fps games we are all used to nowadays. I MEAN YOU CONTROL THE GODDAMN TIME. I am a bit excited

I MEAN YOU CONTROL THE GODDAMN TIME. I am a bit excited after finishing the game (Completed all the challenges if you are so interested) but also not very disappointed of the short story mode. You can spend a lot of hours playing the game and finding the easter eggs finding the best in you.

Final words : You should really play the game if you're looking for something new and challenging but if you are the type of person who wants a story that's gonna keep you thinking about what's going to happen next rather than what you should do right to make the game your **** than it's not for you.

To the developers : I understand that music doesn't go well all the slo-mo but good luck with that and if you ever want to make another iteration of this game, add some 'parkour' to do or betters 'mazes'. Just throwing that out there.

It's the most innovative shooter I've played in years.

Short but interesting story, fresh and innovative gameplay, nice graphics and gorgeous physics. And the endless mode can also bring hours and hours of fun.

The game's main mechanic is that time only moves when you move, and your objective is t o use this to your advantage and kill everyone who is attacking you. It's fantastically fun and often very tense as you dodge bullets with pinpoint precision and shatter your red, polygonal enemies as you play through the game - or is the game playing you? The plot is executed very cleverly, the mechanics never seem to feel old or stretched too thinly out, and all it's already one of the best games of 2016 in my humble opinion.

I love how there are a lot of extras and easter eggs. I wanted to love this game, but unfortunately, once you go past the initial presentation, the rest of the package is lacking. There is just one simple game mechanic that you will master in a few minutes, you'll finish the single player campaign in an hour or two, and the narrative doesn't add much to it other than interrupt the gameplay here and there with the usual postmodernist drivel you've come to expect from pretentious indie game designers. I hope at some point indies start caring about gameplay mechanics and content, and stop giving me unskippable high-school level dissertations about the meaning of life, complete with spelling and gramatical mistakes. But I digress.

All there is here is a dozen or two of very small maps (often just a single room) where enemies respawn, often just in your face. Since both you and them die in a single hit, there is nothing else to the game. There are a set of challenges after the single player narrative where you revisit the same levels with some additional limitations that don't really change the experience by much.

Although the mechanic itself is 'innovative', at the end it is just an extremely small bite-sized snack that doesn't last for more than two hours, yet it manages to be repetitive even in that little time. Given what little there is here, I find the price of admission way out of touch. This is really a $5 game at most, not much longer than a tech demo or a vertical slide.

In addition, the Mac port is terrible: poor performance, a broken v-sync implementation, and not even an option to play fullscreen (Command+F works, but that is just a hidden shortcut and is not present in the game menus).

Shuperhot is one of the most innovative shooters i've played in years.

You should definetly check it out, if you like shooter or new gameplay mechanics in general. Beware if you are prone to motion sickness. The start/stopping of time and movement might leave you a bit nauseous. I feel the campaign could have been a bit longer, but then you would have needed a whole other plot and then

But seriously now,it's very innovative, but the level design is kinda bad,you can easily get circled by enemies because their spaen points are everywhere, also enemies are very aggresive, some even shooting shotgun shells as they spawn.

The core mechanic is so overwhelmingly great, they would have to fall pretty hard in the execution to disappoint. And they didn't. It's challenging, and the nature of the mechanics makes it feel like even if it is hard, it is never unfair, and you always could have done something different. This game needed to be made, and I didn't even realize it.

The style works, but I would have preferred a less abstract one. I'm sympathetic to the limitations of being indie though, they are at least distinctive and interesting. Also, I'm sure plenty of people disagree with me, and fair enough.

The story is extremely meta, and sometimes perhaps a bit over-indulgent. Its clever, but maybe a bit too clever for its own good. I prefer that to being not clever enough, but if your eyes roll into the back of your head when you think a game is trying to be, "Artsy", your going to have to lean pretty hard on the game play for your enjoyment. Luckily, see the first paragraph.

Although I rarely put stock into the cost/length analysis that seems so common (given a choice between 40 good hours and 2 great ones, Ill pick great every time), Superhot's story mode does push it. Over $20 for a 2 hour campaign makes even me a bit annoyed. There's extras and challenges, but YMMV with that sort of things, and for me, the campaign is the meat and potatoes of a game.

Overall, if you like the idea of doing amazing things in a shooter that you normally can't manage because human reflexes are only so fast, like experimental narrative and can deal with a little self indulgence, and are very understanding about game length or love having challenges and extras, definitely get this game. And if its half of on a sale, buying it is a total no brainer

(Insert Metacritic Users Name Here), It's The Most Innovative Shooter Ive Player In Years.

Un juego que cambia radicalmente lo que conocemos en el mundo de los FPS. El mundo está completamente parado. Tu movimiento hace que puedas jugar. Quizás lo malo es su corta duración.

I'd like to say that the game is not quite a bad game, it's just that it isn't very good either. While it's a unique and fresh idea, it's also a repetitive and shallow one. The levels have barely changed from the alpha, and the new powers it adds as the game progresses do not help alleviate the repetition.

The plot and visuals are nothing to write home about. There's nothing wrong with

The plot and visuals are nothing to write home about. There's nothing wrong with sacrificing graphics for gameplay, but all the shiny, white lighting effects, white pillars and white walls get grating after a while. I'm no graphics whore, but I'd love to have something to cut the repetitive gameplay.

There really is not much else to say about SUPERHOT. Despite how unique it is, it still comes across as bland and brief. I reckon you should wait for a sale, rather than buying this straight up. It's quite short (took me a bit over an hour and a half) and is not very replayable, at least at the present time.

"It’s The Most Innovative Shooter I’ve Played In Years" the gameplay is FUN, it makes you feel like a badass. Every level is well made. But sadly, the developers felt the need to give the game a story, a story that is so horrible that it all but completely ruins the game. It very much annoys me that games cant just be games anymore, they have to have an immersive story that breaks the forth wall or something. In summary, DON'T BUY THIS GAME. It's about 35$ right now, and it's not worth half that. Especially if you skip the garbage story (which you should) the game will take you 2 hours to beat. My advice is to wait for a sale, get it from family sharing, or somehow obtain the game via the internet legally ; )))))))))))))). Expand

Go Google this game and check out the completely free 3DFPS build of it. It's so neat! You get to manipulate time in order to beat what would be a completely unwinnable FPS on its own, and the minimal black-white-red art style makes everything very clear. Also, compared to most time-manipulation games out there, this game is TOUGH.

Superhot makes everything you do look unbelievably stylish, but offers so little content that three hours with the game was enough for me. It needs more varied enemies, a broader arsenal, larger stages. I believe Superhot’s innovative mechanics can be squeezed for more and I’m looking forward to a sequel. [04/2016, p.54]

Luckily, the core concept coupled with that gorgeous and impactful art style is enough to warrant our recommendation. Your time with Superhot may be fleeting, but you’ll find every second exhilarating.
