Sunlight manages to offer a quick, but effective, relief with its dreamlike story, painteresque forest and gorgeous choir rendition of Tchaikovsky's "Hymn of the Cherubim”.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. The story is a bit cryptic, but it seems to be about a young protagonist who ate peyote by accident and decided to share the insights they got from their experience. It's told from many voices at once, presumably to dissolve the concept of identity. It's a nice experience, albeit a bit slow and unstimulating gameplay-wise. Full Review »

Great message, not so great experience
Sunlight sets out to hit you with a powerful message, and it does.
The game starts with an Eckhart tolle sounding dude hitting you with some philosophy and then youre off in this beautiful world with beautiful calming music, at first I was absolutely in love with this game, its art style, the various narrators as I play the game.. picking the flowers in the forest, and just relaxing, meditating.. and then eventually the game stops doing anything new… and the magic just crumbled right in front of me… my issue isn’t that this game is just 40 minutes of walking forward, my issue is that its just a procedurally generated loop of walking through the same sections of the forest, you don’t get a feel for the life in this forest, you don’t get a feel for its charcter, something I feel the ultimate message would have benefitted from.. instead of wonder like you start with, youre just impatiently wanting to get to the end and see what the pay off is…
Youre gonna play sunlight and its either going to annoy you or make you think wow, what a cool game… but a bit more character and care into the world building for the experience leading up to the part that makes it cool would’ve been appreciated..
    I give Sunlight
    a 6/10
