Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a treat for die-hard Cthulhu fans. The thick, heavy atmosphere of Lovecraft's stories drips out of every pixel. It's a pity that I couldn't ignore tons of bigger and smaller bugs (abysmal game stability included) that halted all the fun.

In its best moments Stygian really reminded me of the two original Fallout games but heavily spiced up with Lovecraftian horror. [12/2019, p.53]

Although multiple issues persist throughout the title, such as the aforementioned tedious combat and sub-par pathfinding, the quality of the game's writing (when all the words are spelled correctly) and interwoven Lovecraft stories are enough to keep any fan of CRPGs interested throughout two or three separate playthroughs.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a classic point and click with strategic elements. A great game for all those who love Lovecraftian literature and an interesting discovery for neophytes.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones has an interesting art direction and a good Lovecraftian inspiration, but seems to be split in half between its nice all-around RPG mechanics and a slow and not very engaging turn-based strategic combat.

If a steep difficulty curve, the promise of learning and juggling deep gameplay systems, and keeping a close eye trained on stats at all times sound right up your alley, or if you just want to be immersed in a well-made, atmospheric world, then Stygian is well worth checking out.

Bad: primitive inparty characters and relations, broken ballans, railway storyline, useless craft
Terrible: all about tech.part and mechanics realisation. This is about realisation of the saves system, boring battles, megatonns of bugs, unevident mechanics. The worst at all its GUI, it realy scarest part of the game. And finaly- game ending, it looks like a book without a last 150 pages of the novel.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Could have easily been one of the greatest cRPGs of 2019 if it wasn't for its incomplete main quest, regardless of it being buggy.

    The good:

    - Amazing story set in a HP Lovecraft universe with references to pop fiction.
    - Beautiful art and visual effects..
    - Eerie music and special effects
    - Good combat system (inspired by Fallout and Arcanum)
    - Interesting dialogue options depending on your character skills.
    - Includes some frightening scenes later in the game .. it's unique for a 2D horror RPG.

    The bad:

    - Some areas of the game contain horrendous bugs that make the game unplayable unless you keep reloading, hoping that it won't crash the game..

    - You only get around 40 to 60 percent of the game quests combined with an incomplete ending.

Would have given it 10/10 if it wasn't for the incomplete quests, despite how buggy it is. It is a must play for Lovecraft fans.

Overrated and pretentious. Don't waste your time and money.
System requirements are peace of joke! Bad graphics and design, annoying music

System requirements are peace of joke! Bad graphics and design, annoying music and sound, no optimization, no balance, no storyline - just bunch of stupid quests. Gameplay? Just an extremely bad copy of xcom-style battle system.
And, the key fact - there is no Lovecraft's atmosphere!
