Storyteller from developer Daniel Benmergui is yet another feather in the cap of Annapurna Interactive. It’s a cleverly designed puzzle game that does a superb job of pushing the importance of visual storytelling as it relates to a narrative. While its longevity might be in question, the journey through the game is good enough to forgive that is even an issue.

Storyteller is full of charm, laughs, and head-scratching puzzles. All are made in a way that lets you create the story you want to tell to fit the prompt. With standouts like its hands-off instructions to subtle butterfly effect interactions, this is a can’t-miss game for anyone looking for a new puzzle game to sink their teeth into.

Storyteller is both a very good puzzle game and an excellent source of humor. The scenarios are a mix of pieces from classical literary works, but their simplified nature makes for some head-scratchers, even for those mildly familiar with the works these were inspired by. The simple animations and illustrations are captivating to look at and make everything naturally funny. You will wish that Storyteller were a longer experience,l but if you’re good with the short playtime, you’ll have a ton of fun with it.

It's almost more interesting to play the game wrong. To see what bizarre outcomes emerge when you combine characters and situations together with wild abandon. But at the end of a stressful day, I enjoyed what Storyteller had to give: something clever and surprisingly soothing, despite all the murder.

Storyteller takes the concept of "topos" and extends it greatly, basing the entire gameplay on it, and does so competently by teaching the player about the traits of characters and locations, and giving them the freedom to experiment. I would have liked Storyteller to be more daring with experimentation, giving us the opportunity to play more with its extraordinary concept, but even so, it's an interesting divertissement that will make for a very enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.

Storyteller isn’t a game that’s going to capture your imagination for long, but its atmosphere and unique game design make each bite-sized adventure the kind of short-term joy you might be looking for. Not every game needs to be a steak dinner; sometimes a cookie is the fix we need. Just hope an angry lover hasn’t poisoned that cookie.

A uniquely inventive and chucklesome puzzle game that could do with a little more substance.

An amazing puzzle title that is very easy to understand, fun and with really good ideas. However it is very short.

Storyteller is a delightfully different indie puzzler, and its accessible tale-telling is well worth settling down with for a few hours.

Despite its generic name, Storyteller should hopefully grab the attention of puzzle fans with its charming presentation and engaging design.

Storyteller is a fascinating game full of laughs and surprises. If you love both comics and videogames, you will enjoy it for sure.

The game is undeniably gorgeous and clever, and easy to drop in and out of. The stories and characters are fun to experiment with as well, and Storyteller ultimately does a great job at establishing itself as something wholly unique within the puzzle game space. It’s worth experiencing for the chance to get to see everything that could ever happen in a story — from what goes right, to what goes terribly, terribly wrong.

Although it’s short and some of its levels may feel a little repetitive, we can’t help but like Storyteller. It’s not going to set your world on fire, but the two-or-so hours you spend with it, working through its levels, will provide you with plenty of challenge – and just as many smiles. It’s an innovative concept, and we’d love to see it expanded upon in future releases.

Storyteller is a solid and enjoyable puzzle game that takes an interesting core mechanic and runs with it. Its brief runtime, ease and lack of obvious replayability might give some players food for thought, but those who want a fun and relaxing puzzler will enjoy their time with the game.

For as pleasant and intermittently clever as the game is, its breezy style comes at the cost of any real complexity.

Like a good book that you simply can’t put down, Storyteller will charm you with its whimsical and inventive gameplay, so much so you’ll finish it in one sitting. But therein also lies its biggest flaw. While Storyteller has a superb foundation and core idea, the puzzle mechanics aren’t challenging, and the gameplay is too short and lacks variety, so you’ll breeze through it in no time at all.

Though Storyteller's premise might be creative, its repetitive puzzles and lack of challenge quickly make the game feel stale.

  1. I'd wager you'll have hunnerpercented Storyteller in two hours max, which will sound like mana from heaven to some, but may disappoint you if you've been waiting for Storyteller for over a decade.

No puedo entenderlo.

Why do people hate this video game? I can't understand it. I can say this is not close to being a masterpiece, but the development time is visible, as well the love behind it.
It has an original concept that adapts to few palates. It is true that its duration is quite short, but that does not make it a bad video game, in fact, I feel that in the near future it will achieve a better reception.
For my part I can say that it was worth waiting so long to be able to play it.
