Still Life comes off as an eye spy detective game with several puzzle elements thrown into the mix. The 800x600 maximum resolution is disappointing. Character development is genuine providing a sense of realism, but there is a lack of involvement on the players part to really control events--the result is a lot of mindless clicking to advance conversations. You also have to do everything in a predefined order which in many cases seems pointless. For example you can't pick up certain objects until you discover a use for them and you can't leave certain areas without completing necessary tasks. Overall, it was worth the play through, but I became weary near the game's end due to the abrupt turnaround in the main character combined with minor game annoyances. The ending sets up for Still Life 2, but ultimately leaves a feeling of unfulfillment as a stand alone game. Expand

Loved the game, extremely dissapointed with the ending. I'm hoping for a sequel that, has better voice acting, more interaction with evidence, and all questions answered by end of the game.

Still Life is what it is, an old style point and click game with some nice pre-rendered visuals. Yes, it is very linear (remember when all games were linear, and that was ok?) and yes there are some animation problems, but its not a bad diversion for the $20 price. There are some annoyances--yes, the cookies--and some illogical moments. There are some annoyances--yes, the cookies--and some illogical moments. For example (spoiler alert), when you need to cut the back of a picture at dad's house, you have to search the house for a tiny little razor that is left on the floor, rather than do what most people would really do--go to the kitchen and get a knife. End Spoiler. Everything, except for the puzzles, is spelled out for you . It always tells you exactly where to go and exactly whom to question. Basically, Still Life is more a slightly interactive movie than a game...but it is a great story. Whether you are a fan of the voice acting or not, the dialogue is well thought out, and the parallel story lines leave little clues for one another and work wonderfully together. Buy Still Life for the story. It's one of the best stories I've seen in a video game. Expand

Still Life is a deep game. It’s a splendid adventure with stylish visuals and a shockingly realistic take on detective thrillers. [May 2005, p.85]
  2. If you can stomach the disturbing images (I did) and like your adventure games on the dark, sinister side, then take this game for a spin, chances are you will enjoy it in spite of the little problems the game has.
  3. Certainly the best Adventure Game of 2005 and possibly destined to be considered one of the most elite point and click adventure games ever released.
