Besides, polish is overrated. Consider Dawn of the Dead. Both of them. Zack “Justice League” Snyder’s update is polished, contemporary, and appropriately dumb. But Romero’s original is raw, uneven, and still powerful. They each have their place, but only one of them is timeless. If you want the fullest and most thorough expression of zombie mythology in a movie, you watch Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. If you want the fullest and most thorough expression of zombie mythology in a game, you play Undead Labs’ State of Decay 2.

Microsoft and Undead Studios succeeded in delivering a good Xbox-exclusive game. The coop and loot elements are well done with smooth gameplay and upgrading mechanic. Unfortunately, the huge amount of bugs sometimes cause it to be unplayable. Apparently, due to the latest game patches, the bugs are being fixed quickly.

State of Decay 2 is a "bigger, better and more badass" sequel, with plenty of missions and activities to engage. Playing it in co-op is a good addition, but in the long run the game loses part of its charm. The graphics are outdated and far from modern game standards.

In State of Decay 2 we got additions that we didn’t even need, while the mechanics that called for changes (such as fighting) remained without any major interference. The game shoves in multiplayer too much, which degrades some parts of the single-player into a digital chore. Eventually, you may not even appreciate, that the game is bigger than the first one.

The purchase is basically only worthwhile if you have not played the predecessor yet...This lack of innovation is all the more disappointing for me because the developers of Undead Labs had originally planned their game as a zombie MMO, where we were to fight with hundreds of players on a map together for survival. And now, instead, they deliver a mediocre co-op mode.

The problem with State of Decay 2 is that it fails to go steps beyond what the first game achieved. It is a given that fans of State of Decay will surely have a good time, especially when playing with friends (and when some of the technical issues will be addressed), but overall Undead Labs’ new game fails to impress.

State of Decay 2 looks like a totally broken remake of the original game.

Main turnI am giving it high rating altho the game has many flaws, but it's fun and I am already over 20 hours on this, which is rare for me. Main turn off was, that i spent time on specific characters and then lost them. Rage quited few times, thinking the game is not for me, but then coming back next day and just dealing with the consequences. I guess that is what make the game unique along with the complete freedom of exploration, doing missions or not, clearing up the map from plague etc. The only thing I realy don't like about the game is the base managment, it's awful. I enjoy base management, but the way it is done here, is truly one of the worst implementation I have seen. But pretty much everything else is great. Expand

The concept of this game was great, but it is overshadowed by bugs, glitches, and annoying mechanics.

The first huge problem I came into during the first hour was huge amount of bugs with driving, fighting, and movement. There was no story or any story line in the game which dulled the game a bit. Coop, which was a huge seller for some of us, was a huge disappointment. It was not only extremely laggy every 20 - 30 seconds, but it did not even feel like coop. The fighting, movement, and game play mechanics felt not only janky, but really lackluster.

The zombie and human AI from this game was just as braindead and **** as the first game.
After a while, you begin to realize the amount of repetitive missions and tasks you do for your base. There is nothing new or innovative in this game in that aspect. On the other hand, the base building was overhauled and expanded with improvements. But you soon realize how base building is not only limited, but really shallow. I am not a player who cares much for graphics, but it felt a bit lackluster on the pc side.

Overall, this game is just average. It was great for the first 10 hours, but then I realized how dull, repetitive, and shallow it actually was. Unfortunately, it did not feel as enjoyable as the first one, and really felt like another disappointing game of 2018.

Did it make sense in the first game? No. Was it helpful? Very. Also on the vehicles, they handle *even worse* somehow. The vehicles were all over the place in the first game, but in this one, all of them thus far have been terrible. The frame drops while driving are also unacceptable since the improvements to the graphics don't justify it. The zoom function while shooting is terrible, slowing your movement when you are aiming down sights. I assume this is some method of balancing the gun play, but it just makes it frustrating. The blood plague mechanic is highly irritating, since if you liked the melee combat of the first game, well tough luck, since melee means you have a high chance of losing your character, or having to constantly being cured of the plague. They have also removed some of my favorite skills from the first, and gated basic ones behind skill sets that don't make much sense. All in all, writing this review makes me sad. Playing the game made me sadder. Having to upgrade to Windows 10 to find out how bad the game was (and Windows 10) has made me angry. I don't know what the multiplayer is like, and I will never find out, as I'm never suggesting this game to anybody. UL, I expected better than this. Expand
