Packs so much action and excitement into its story that it's easy to forget its flaws. [PC Format]
-
It does not have the attention to detail that PC gamers have come to expect from a title...[but] it was fun to play the sound was excellent, and the story held my interest.
-
PC GamerThe single-player campaign alone is inspiring enough to warrant picking up this space shooter. [Apr 2002, p.84]
-
It's fun enough, I suppose, but it feels more like an uninspired port.
-
An unpolished, but solid, port of a good console game.
-
Most of the praise should be given to the music and sound effects; basically, a blast festival of famous Star Wars weapons accompanied by the magnificent music score of John Williams.
-
You're much better off getting the Xbox or PS2 version of this one. This one wasn't made for the PC originally, and it shows.
-
Although improvements to the game’s length would have been welcome, changes to the controls are definitely not. Unfortunately, that appears to be exactly what has happened and calling it an improvement would be a significant misstatement.
-
It’s quick, inexpensive fun that will be forgotten the moment you uninstall it.
-
If you are a Star Wars fan and enjoy arcade-style shooters, you'll probably really like this game. Players looking for a more challenging or in-depth simulation, though, might be better off looking elsewhere.
-
The disparity, however, between this title and the great classics that LucasArts used to create is too great of a void to disregard.
-
Starfighter looks great and has a good story, though not all its missions are engaging, and they start to feel repetitive as the game goes on. The game doesn't last that long, either.
-
Passable entertainment, just keep in mind that it's meant to be a light action game. If you're like me though, you're hungry for a true starfighter sim like you played in the glory days of the X-Wing series.
-
Computer Gaming WorldWhile the visuals are good, they aren't nearly as spectacular as they could have been. [May 2002, p.76]
-
Ultimately falls far short of the revered PC series with its less sophisticated controls and missions and ridiculously short length.
-
The box art is new! Otherwise we're left with a console port minus multiplayer features or anything in the way of enhancements for a technically superior gaming platform.
