When the former not only brought to life the Star Wars world better than any previous game, but also managed to combine PC RPG stats and dice with Console RPG storytelling, it did so almost unexpectedly. KotOR threatened to be far less than the sum of its parts, and when it turned out to more, much more, its success was guaranteed. Unfortunately, that first game, but for a few tiny control issues, really didn't leave much to be improved upon. Taking up the motto of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", the developers subsequently created something that feels more like a hefty expansion, rather than a true sequel. New story, slightly altered levelling up system, but all within the same shell. Unfortunately, the game fails to match its predecessor on several of these levels. Firstly, the combat and skill related section of KOTOR II lacks the balance of the first game. Certain fights in the first game were genuinely difficult, and frequently your choice of skills and party members only opened doors at the expense of others being shut. In contrast, from the outset of KOTOR II, it is easy to have a party capable of accomplishing everything and kicking ass to boot. A carefully constructed jedi is quite capable of destroying even the toughest enemies on their own, and several of the other party members (or yourself, if you choose) can cover ALL of the skills needs you'll ever have, while remaining quite combat capable. The satisfaction of levelling up becomes muted as the game wears on, and towards the end begins to feel rather meaningless. Secondly, the interactions between your fellow party members and yourself, while still a cut above most rival games, never reaches the brilliance of the first game. Ultimately, despite the game's efforts, the brilliance of Bastila, Carth and Mission is not replicated, and instead we end up with characters who range from the flat to the outright dislikeable. This is coupled with a well intentioned system of converting followers to the light or dark sides, which while a promising idea ultimately serves to replace rather than support the "it looks like something is bothering ____" of the first game. Rather than developing, the game instead seems to pour all the character's stories into initially accessible paths and abandon them for the endgame. Indeed, the game also includes a rather bizarre continued conflict between two NPCs that might well not feature in the player's plans. Finally, the story itself borders upon weak, though it likely suffers again from the impact of its predecessor here. The pacing of the game, certainly, is poor, and the game seems to drag for large periods without any injection of urgency or a strong wider goal. When the endgame does approach, it is thrown on almost unexpectedly. This combines with the game's enemies, who, after appearing deeply menacing when we first meet them, and radiating a sense of power, proceed to fall like bowling pins so quickly at the end, that you're left expecting revivals that do not come. This is a shame, because while characters like Darth Malak and Darth Revan (KotOR) might have been impossible to best, the game initially appears to have matched them. Frankly, KotOR II's concepts deserve far better than the game delivers. It isn't all doom and gloom, though. The sensation that this is KotOR 1.5 will probably be welcomed by most, and although the game doesn't match it's predecessor, you would be hard pressed to accuse KotOR II of being the cash-in it might have been. Some of the dialogue is genuinely brilliant and there are many pleasing little concepts in the storyline. And it is another replication of those wonderful star-wars worlds, which is always appreciated. My final gripe with the game, concerns the way the story progresses from it's predecessor. It would have been nice if the game could have absorded some details of what happened in the player's previous outing, but instead we have a hotch-potch amalgamation of the potential light/dark paths ventured last time around. Indeed, given the options available in the previous game, it is disappointing to see a story told where the actions of my character seemed completely contradicted. The ending, in particular, is very unsatisfying, and seems to cater for only one path of play. Frankly, the story of the second game is best ignored when thinking about the series. KotOR II remains an acceptable RPG romp, but fails to deliver to the level of it's predecessor. Ultimately, it fails to reach the benchmarks in gameplay, story and characterization of the first game, and though fans will welcome the extension of the series there is no doubt that it will take more to acheive the success of the first game. I played the Sith Lords again recently and realised it deserved far ore credit than I had originally given it. Kotor 1 is y favourite game of all time, and I always looked on Sith Lords as an inferior follow-up. On further inspection, it's only really the ending that sucked.

Obsidian kept the good looks and a similar interface, made the Items available more interesting and varied, made the characters far more interesting, and went for a more complex plot. I still think the ending was a shame, it felt so sudden and rushed and The Trayus Core scene just felt ridiculous. But the Sith Lords is a sequel not to be missed.

This was the first Star Wars game I have ever played with and I loved it only after 5 minutes of game play. It is intriguing, challenging but not ultra- hard, re-playable, fun and star wars. :D

Considering this and a storyline cut short to the point of nonsense, I played through this once and felt very let down in light of the original. Then I found a "Kotor 2, restored content mod" which added in aspects of the game that were left in the data files but unimplemented for whatever reason. From here, the game was a vast improvement. The graphics are a polished take on the original, but looking slightly aged by modern standards. That being said, the environments are considerable and there doesn't seem to be any "copy paste" level-design going on. So far, so Bioware. Dialogue is true to KOTOR form, engaging and well written with excellent voice acting. Major improvements are the inventory system and weapon customisation (it's almost worth playing this game purely for the light sabers), as well as character development among your crew mates and resultant story elements from these aspects. In this respect, the RPG elements in this game (once modded) live up well to Biowares' token game design. Personally I'm not a fan of the D&D "real-time turn-based" combat, but it's playable at least and you notice marked improvements as your character progresses. Squad AI has the tactical IQ of a slightly gifted baked potato, but later in the game it is very enjoyable having the ability to go solo into large enemy groups without having to rely on bad squad mates. Cutscenes are entertaining and the soundtrack is true to the Star Wars canon and its' bombastic sensibilities.

Given further development to finalise the ideas presented in the "restored content mod", this game would have been genuinely astonishing. As released it felt rushed and incomplete, especially considering minimal chances of a sequel.

If you enjoy moral dilemmas and a dark, deep story line that extends the Knights of the Old Republic (and gives more depth to The Old Republic MMO) timeline or simply if you are new to the scene, then I would highly recommend this game, it is a staple for any Star Wars fan. Darth Traya is probably one of the most amazingly written game characters I have ever known.

And if you are into modding, there is a restored content mod that injects parts that were cut out of the game into it. While it is nice to see some new content, it is slightly messy in how they have implemented it, but it does give companions some extra character development. And with the added steam support and resolution fix, there is simply nothing to be putting you off in trying Kotor 2.

KOTOR 1 (and pretty much every other Star Wars story) is very straightforward and primitive in its morality - the bad guys wear dark clothes and have red lightsabers and are evil; the good guys wear light robes and have colorful lightsabers and are unquestionably good. KOTOR 2, however, goes to great lengths to criticize the Jedi with their code and self-righteousness as much as the Sith with their unchecked hunger for power.

Unlike the first game, pretty much all the party members have an interesting and often dark back story to make conversations with them engaging. Also now you can influence your followers and even train 3 of them to become Jedi.

Anyway, I've just replayed the game for at least the third time, and my opinion still stands - a solid 10/10, if you like old-school RPGs and Star Wars, don't miss it out, they don't make games like these nowadays. Also make sure to install the Restored Content Modification, it fleshes out some dialogue and expands the ending.

On the good side TSLRCM fan-made mod managed to restore many of the cut contents, which lead to a bearable ending, especially for a Light Side player. Be advised: it makes the game very buggy on Onderon, but it's still worth it if you play for the story like I do. If you play the "vanilla" version than it deserves it's 7.8 score. KotOR 2: The Sith Lords has a slower pacing than the first game, and a different, darker and more reflective vibe. It's more rich and detailed, one of the deepest stories set in the Star Wars universe. It explores more gray, morally ambiguous areas, questioning the Force itself and its ways, the position of jedis in the galaxy and the effect of a war on them, the consequences of their actions, and their echoes. To say it plainly if that's not what you are looking for, KotOR2 won't do for you. Otherwise it will make for a fulfilling, if somewhat wearing experience, featuring some of the best NPCs ever seen in a RPG game, many of which will echo strongly the feeling you got from some of the NPCs from the masterpiece Planescape: Torment. When I knew that Obsidian, and not Bioware, was going to make the sequel, I was very skeptical but also excited at the same time. I was actually more eager for this game, at the time it lunched, than the movie Prequels.

And in ended up beeing the first game from Obsidian to suffer its “Obsidian syndrome”, in other words: an overly ambitious, unpolished and unfinished game plagued with bugs which ends up being strangely good for some reason. The people that played Alpha Protocol will understand what i'm trying to say. (Don't get me wrong, KOTOR 2 is a much better game than Alpha Protocol.)
What angers me the most, is the fact that, there is so much wasted potential in this game, the story is so elaborate and mysterious, and the atmosphere is so tense, you'll feel like something major is always about to happen.
The party members in this game are also much more interesting than the ones in Kotor, everyone acts like they have their own secret agenda, even the ones you think you can trust, start doing suspicious things behind your back. And at the same time, you'll be eager to know the fate of everyone from the first game, especially Revan and Bastila.
I wont spoil the story for you but when everything is said and done, the game ends with an aftertaste of plot holes and dead ends.
Knights of the old republic 2 has something special and it could have been one of the best sequels in gaming history, but all was lost when LucasArt putted profits first and fans second. So I'll forgive Obsidian for this one.
In conclusion what could have been an legendary game ended up being just great.

The KotOR series was probably one of my all-time favorites, I liked these way more than the movies and KotOR I was the game that truly got me into RPG games. Age hasn't been too kind to it, the graphics aren't the best and it's buggy at best on newer OS, but that doesn't stop it from being a true legendary classic. And look at that, a decade later and it gets updated to fix most problems and allow for us to return to KotOR II a few more times. Just because it got this big update don't think it's bug free, there's still plenty of them. For me I get achievements in weird locations for no reason - I got the Dancing Queen achievement when I left Peragus and didn't get the Peragus achievement until I got a little further into Telos. Not to mention the money achievement I randomly got when I made a small barter - but that's okay. There's no real game breaking bugs or anything and it's stable. It's a very good game and is usually set at a low price. If you love Star Wars or RPGs on a whole this is a must have along with KotOR I. I recommend starting with KotOR I first then moving on to two as you'll probably get pretty confused. The combat system is similar to an MMO, usually I'm not a fan of this combat system in single-player games but it actually works pretty good. Granted it could be better, but for a 2005 game there's nothing wrong with it. Expand

No tan bueno como el primero, pero es sin duda un digno sucesor.

Sufre un poco por estar inacabado, pero existen parches no oficiales que solucionan parcialmente ese problema.

Un lástima que los de LucasArts no se decidieran a hacer el III.

Each of the characters in your arsenal have SOME moral grey area and inner demons that they all must confront in some form, but it's poorly undercut by that light side/dark side conflict that demands the spotlight and just serves to make the characters more bland and just as polarized.

KotOR had the luxury of being able to throw an INCREDIBLE twist at the player toward the end, but without that, KotOR II builds up a great atmosphere, great tension and then just... stopped it all. The ending can't even be considered a "Deus ex Machina" because there was no real conclusion, there's just "this is the good guy's ending" and "this is the bad guy's ending".

Overally, it's a 9 when standing on its own, no comparison to KOTOR. Compared to the first, though, it drops to about an 7.

Sadly the games development was rushed because of a short deadline and had an abrupt ending. Without this it would be the best Star Wars videogame even making the excellent prequel look inferior. Without this it would be the best Star Wars videogame even making the excellent prequel look inferior. It improves on nearly all levels. It has a fascinating story with depth and a lot of philosophical themes. The RPG gameplay works well and the characters are even better than before. In short it would be a prime contender for a 10/10 without hesitation and even with the abrupt ending I feel compelled to lean in this direction. I must admit that some of the enjoyment depends on how much patched your version of the game is. At release it was quite full of bugs and this harmed the immersion and enjoyment. Luckily for me I read about this and only got the game after the patches fixed the bug issues. Story: It is set a few years after the prequel which means approx 4000 years before the events of the original trilogy. When the Mandalorians attacked the Old Republic the Jedi order did not help in defeating them because of fear, hesitation and political motives (True defenders of peace and guardians of the Old Republic). A few Jedi rebelled against this ignorance lead by Revan and Malak who joined the Republic military and ultimately saved the Republic but turned later to the dark side and caused another conflict (Shown / resolved in the prequel). Your main character followed them into the war against the Mandalorians but refused to join them later on or turn to the dark side. Because of this the Jedi order exiled him and she/he became know as “The Exile”. After many years in exile the main character is drawn into new events that are again a threat to the Republic, Jedi order and have a connection to the past that he/she abandoned. The story is excellent and has a lot of depth. It shows you for example that there is more than black and white morality and that all decisions have effects (like a stone tossed into water creating ripples). It is enjoyable and immersive and one of the best (unfinished) stories in videogames. Sadly you clearly recognize that the last chapter was cut and the ending is abrupt and forced. Bonus for the philosophical themes as even today there are people discussing about it. Characters: This game has a magnificent cast of characters. Be it your party members or the mayor enemies. All have their own story, motives and world views. I should mention that some are restricted to the gender of the main character or your moral alignment. Only because of avoiding spoilers I will not mention my favorite characters but will remark that there are many I still remember after all the years. There are a lot of fond memories and their might be some (optional) events that change characters. Gameplay: You create your character similar to D&D rules (Dungeon and Dragons). I recommend to read a guide or two and GameFAQs is pretty good here. This means putting points into stats like strength, dexterity, constitution, wisdom, intelligence and charisma. With this you set up your play-style or better said character efficiency. For example more constitution means more health, dexterity works for evasion etc. Then there are the skills and I want to mention that the non combat skills are quite good too. I develop my persuasion and problem solving skills first as those were valuable (I still was able to be a terrific fighter later on). All skills have a purpose while I freely admit that some are better than others. Just think a bit about your preferences as you cant be a master of all. There are feats to improve your character and you have to chose a class. As per RPG standards you level up and develop your character even further. Setting / worldbuilding: This is how you use a license (Also a side-blow to EA). Like I already said they paid attention on the large scale by creating worlds that is fascinating, immersive and enjoyable and in details when you for example try to use Jedi mind manipulation on a Toydarian (Watto’s species) or explain how Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan could hold on their breath for so long in Episode 1. This is a near perfect use of the Star Wars universe. Technical: Again this was graphically impressive at the time of release but naturally aged a bit. Still good enough for me but graphic enthusiast will complain without any doubt. The soundtrack was well done. Bugs: I already mentioned that I joined later after the bugs were fixed. So I cant complain but must warn you for the unpatched experience. Overall this is an unfinished masterpiece and a classic. A sequel that puts its predecessor to shame. If they would have finished the final chapter and ironed out the bugs before release it would be one of the most legendary games of its time. I hesitate to lower my rating as I had so much fun with the game even when I say a rushed ending is a mayor sin in gaming. I give a 7/10 and say it is a 10/10 game up to the abrupt ending. Worth playing especially for Star Wars fans. Expand

    Pro
    - Great gameplay. With some minor improvement like easy change of melee and ranged even tough i mainly used melee on my MC , also the add off different forces/styles.
    - Great soundtrack music
    - Darker in setting or tone the kotor 1. Witch also makes for a darker plot. ( But i probably prefer the original due to a little be pacing ,but is entirely objective/subjective or whatever the say
    - Overall better and more interesting characters imo and villain .
    - Again a great rpg with a lot of choices yu can make , however the ending you get seems to be dependant on your choice in the end fo the game.
-You can play it at you own , pace it starts out linear, but eventually you get 4 planets you can choose to explore and take on in what order you want ,also able to go back an forth.
    - Just hard enough , even tough the bosses is pretty hard.
    - Replay value.

Cons: However there is some cons here compared to the original, i had problem with the mouse freezing right after cutescens so be sure to save regularly. But it seems too vary very much on people and there probably some fixes for it out there. Also looting from container and especially on npc sometimes i had to loot from a specific angel.
    - one of the places you visits feel to drag on a little and so does the last location your at.

Also i recommend you to use the restoration content mod
Great game a little bit worse then the original due to it cons how ever if it was for cons it would be very tight. It would basically be plot vs characters an tone/setting of the game a darker star wars or not as dark.

A good sequel to a great game. It improves on the first game in many ways, but was held back by a rushed development (missing content) and buggy release.

Put these things aside and you will still find the game to be amazingly good fun. This and it's prequel are two of the best Star Wars games ever made. A real shame that we don't get to see more of this kind of genius these days.

KOTOR 2 is a good game that expands on KOTOR 1, but it has tons of major flaws.

There are some parts of the game that are simply impossible to beat without meta gaming, cheating, or using some kind of exploit. This happens because almost all of the party members are support characters. They have little or no combat ability, but there are multiple parts of the game where those support characters need to solo extremely difficult enemies. For example, there is a part where Atton needs to fight against 2 assassins at the same time. This fight is absolutely impossible to do without cheating because Atton's fighting skills are comparable to a midget with a spinal injury. He can't hit anything, his damage is pathetic because all of his points are in dexterity instead of strength (he's a rogue), but those assassins can take half his life in a matter of seconds. How does one beat that encounter? Run behind a certain piece of furniture so the assassins can't reach you and then shoot them. Honest to god, this requires about 1 or 2 minutes of shooting. I went to the bathroom while Atton was shooting them, and they were still alive by the time I came back. They are that difficult to hit, and they have that much life, so there's absolutely no chance of beating them when using mines, grenades, or melee.

A bit later on, a similar encounter happens with Mira trying to escape a certain situation. Mira, like Atton, is a rogue. She has no strength, she does very little damage, her armor class is pathetic, and she doesn't have much life. The problem is that she's forced to fight against a wookie that steamrolls her quite easily. The environment only has a few mines laying around to use in this fight, but it requires about 20 mines to kill the wookie. I used all of the environmental mines plus all 11 mines in my inventory, and the wookie was still alive. After winning that fight, she needs to kill about a dozen very powerful enemies that have double swords. She can't even solo 1 of them without using a med kit or a mandalorian shield, but they attack in pairs. Mines are out of the question because each enemy requires about 3 frag mines to kill. Mira's auto character leveling puts 0 points into stealth, so there's no way to sneak out of that part. There's just no way anyone could beat this without knowing exactly what came next in the game. If you typically sell or deconstruct mines for parts, there's no way to win. If you didn't manually select stealth specialization for her, there's no way to win. It's just horrendous game design.

My own character does quite well in this game because my character was built from the ground up to be a melee fighter with health regeneration and a very high armor class. I'm a veteran of Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 which use the same D&D rules as KOTOR, so I'm familiar with how severely handicapped every other type of character is. Unfortunately, all the companions are handicapped. They work great as support characters because they can pick locks and use computers, but they are totally useless in combat, and the game seems to think it's a good idea to pit a rogue against a fighter and then laugh when the rogue dies every single time. My character's armor class is 34, but Mira's armor class at the same point in the game is 20. Is there any mystery why she gets destroyed so easily? I can't put any good armor on Mira because that armor is worn by the characters I actually use, and I can't switch armor at this point in the game. The only way to give proper gear to Mira is to load a save game from about 3 hours ago.

To get through these stupid parts of the game, one can download the KOTOR save game editor and buff Mira's stats. Set all of her attributes to 30 until the solo part ends and then dial them back down so she resumes her role as a person who hacks computers and dies in every fight.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to begin...Knights of the Old Republic 2 takes parts of the first game and makes them slightly better. But also takes aspects of it and makes them worse. Its hard to say if this game was a "good" game. Story wise the idea and concept of the exile had me lost from the start. Not caring who I was playing, I'm just a exiled ex-jedi wanting my precious lightsaber back. The story slightly picks up as you explore the plants and find the jedi masters but once you find them the game snowballs in a very werid direction. Leaving me only to beat it....to beat it. Even at the end I laugh to myself asking WTF was that. Where it does that part wrong, it adds some more depth to the worlds and have you return to some twice to finish main plot lines; That is something the first one didn't have. Party members was a huge plus, adding more interesting characters and having HK back in the scene.
Character development had some change to it as well with the secondary class selection about mid game, adding 3 sub classes you could follow to expand your ability. Gameplay was bugging, sometimes having my character stand still with actions/attacks in his que and not doing anything. Standing idle while being molly whopped by lightsabers....not so pleasant. Small bugs through the games added up to just be a nuisance; As the Environmental suit in the Alien bar not showing when Mira was in it, the constant getting stuck trying to open a container. ALL I wanted was my loot but no I had to stack twitching and couldn't open my container, I had to have one of my trusty side kicks do it.
Minus the negative parts they released a huge update to the game which made it up to date with graphics and to play on full resolution. It looks beautiful and blew me away when I booted it up. Great job there guys.

I adored the first game but I went in with a blank slate, no expectations. It blew me out of the park, the story phenomenal, and I can't believe it but 10 years later, they came back and updated the game! I love it so much, this was perfect. Updated graphics, new force abilities tons of new planets. You genuinely struggle to make choices. Not like you can kill this guy or give him candy drrr which one is good?, I try to play as a good guy, but I make the choices I think are right and sometimes I'm wrong and I've done bad, it really shows human nature. Only complaint is the Peragus tutorial, kind of boring but I love to hate it. (also great job with the nostalgia from the first game it made me squeal seeing HK-47). Story: The game takes place five years after the first game, The Sith are hunting the Jedi down and your character "The Exile" is believed to be the last Jedi by the Sith...

    Pros:
    • Obsidian have managed to create a very engaging story where it questions many aspects of Star Wars we have known for years, while also continuing the story that Bioware started in Kotor 1. Although not as good as the first games, it does do some interesting ideas.
    • Great characters once again that play an important part in the story. Kreia especially is one of the most unique Star Wars characters and one of my personal favorites.
    • Multiple endings is always a nice touch.

    Cons:
    • Kotor 1 did take a bit of time to get it's story going, but Kotor 2 is even worse when it comes to this issue with the opening not being as interesting and even slower then the previous game.
    • The story in this game really focuses on certain side characters and villains more then other, which really overshadows some genuinely great characters that could of been used so much more. Same with the villains, they are interesting when looking at them in detail, but don't all get used to there full potential.
    • I know this wasn't really Obsidians fault, but the cut content really leaves a void in this game in certain places. This lead to certain parts really feeling rushed and certain places and some things never being explained properly.

Gameplay: For the most part, Kotor 2 plays almost like the previous game, with the exception of no level-cap and slightly different dialogue system.

    Pros:
    • Still have the freedom of being able to make your character your own with whatever force powers, weapons etc. you want to use.
    • Choice making is still a huge factor in this game, which can influence if your character is light side, dark side or in the middle of the road between the two. If you influence your character in one of these sides, you can get some handy bonuses too.
    • The dialogue system has improved, with your followers increasing or decreasing in your influence depending on what you say to them or certain actions they witness you do. If you influence them enough, you can actually train them to learn Jedi powers and further enhancing their usefulness.
    • Crafting system is a small addition, but a pleasant one.
    • Exploring the planets is still fun and finding things to do and learning about what goes on in your surroundings is still satisfying.
    • Took me 40-45 hours too complete and that was doing almost everything the game had to offer.

    Cons:
    • Since Kotor 2 is still using the Infinity engine, it has a lot of the same issues from the last game in terms of gameplay. The AI is still dumb as a brainless dolphin and still get stuck, are slow or even ignore commands you give them. The combat as well is still the very basis RNG-based, D&D system that isn't really in-depth by any means and just functions at least as a combat sysyem.
    • Sometimes for parts of the main story, certain characters are locked-out and forces you to use a fixed character. These are refreshing sequences, but they come off and linear and sometimes the surprise of them can leave you unprepared.
    • Backtracking is still an issue.
    • The choices you make also has to be said, don't really feel as if they make as much of an impact as they did in Kotor 1.
    • No new-game plus or end-game sadly.

    Sound and Music:

    Pros:
    • The soundtrack once again really hits the mark for making it sound like it's from Star Wars, while also having original tracks. A few return from the first game and a few John Williams track too. I'd have to boldly say I think it's better then the first games.
    • Voice acting is done to a high standard once again with excellent writing as well.
    • Sound fx are as Star Wars as ever.

    Cons:
    • A few hick-ups is syncing a few times, nothing major though.

    Perfromance and Graphics:

    Pros:
    • game more or less looks the same as the first, but with some better lighting and a few better textures, nothing amazing just good enough.

    Cons:
    • Did encounter a few annoying bugs, like one that skipped character dialogue which was the worst.
    • In-game cutscenes are still quite poor.
    • Had some nasty frame-rate drops in certain sections of the game.

Verdict: Knights of The Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords was a good attempt from Obsidian to continue where Bioware left off in the first game and for the most part they have done a fairly good job. However, due to the cut-content, overly focused on some characters, big pacing issues and repeating gameplay issues from the first game, it is a good game at the end of the day though. I highly recommend you download the restore content mod that fills in some of the gaps that were missing, it makes it better, trust me.

Unlike it's predecessor it shows that no action is considered only good or evil, and there is a gray area. It shows many mysteries and one of the best cast of characters, but lacks closure and relationships feel unfinished.

The released version is very strong, but it's broken and incomplete. The restored content mod, which you can download for PC versions of KOTOR: TSL is outstanding and does the seemingly impossible job of surpassing the first KOTOR

Man i wish i could have played it back when it came out but i couldn't cause i was 3 years old. But even in 2k17 its good .The game itself is not as good as the first one. But it's still a good damn game. The story, the characters, the mini games and the quests are really well made. And the music is better than the first ones music. It's just too good.
    It's a big shame they didn't make a 3rd game

I actually like Sith Lords more than the original KOTOR. It has better beginning, gives you jedi powers and lightsaber much earlier and makes 'dark side' playthough very satisfying.

Best Star Wars game ever made and one of the best games of all time.

While the first one may be better known, especially for it's twist, this is the superior game for me and the best star wars game. It felt like it added something to the universe by fleshing out the dark side, it's got great characters, a good story and a combat system that for it's time was probably the best compromise.

First, the gameplay is not the greatest of all time but it still makes for a fun and challenging time. There are tons of options for playstyle and customization; From the weapons, armor, force powers, dialogue, skill points, you get to decide how you upgrade and use them.
Next, the worlds you get to play on are each so unique and fun to explore. Each world has it's own lore history too it which makes it easy to take your time on each planet and learn more about it.
Lastly, the best part of the game is the story it tells and the themes it reveals to the player. This is a story not about light and dark but rather a morally grey story. It introduces themes of forgiveness, obsession, and letting go(I'm sure there are more btw). SW: KOTOR 2 was truly ahead of its time for storytelling in videogames, and makes it easily one of the greatest RPGs of all-time.

Easily the best deconstruction on the Star Wars setting. An engaging tale that will make you question your preconceptions about the force and Star Wars as a hole. Some of the best written companions to ever grace an rpg, as expected from Obsidian's golden days. If you like rpgs, Star Wars or both then you owe it to yourself to check KOTOR 2.

Indeed, Obsidian makes very good rpg games. This is one of them. Various characters and developing them is very enjoyable. Dialogues are very good. The Star Wars world and atmosphere is very good. I wish they made movies about those times. There are 3 aspects of the game that I don't like.
    1. Upgrade is very enjoyable but a bit difficult to use. The menu could have been done better.

I used to be strongly ambiguous about the most central storyline and its believability, since the character in question is highly suspicious from the start, but could you really cut the stinky thread?

The variety of character builds that work at least in normal mode is wonderful.

The fact Steam build with mods I like often immobilizes a character in a fight maddens me, but I actually put up with for the sake of the other things the game offers :D

First off, the game is clearly unfinished and several years old so take that into consideration before you buy it. That said, specifically on pc you will be able to install the restored content mod, which is a project by the community to restore the game to its finished state. It isn’t perfect, but the game is definitely better with it than without.

Now that all that is over with, let’s get into the meat and potatoes. KOTOR 2 is a masterpiece when it comes to Star Wars storytelling. This game really shines not in the gameplay but when you get to learn about the world, your companions, or the overarching story. Overall, the gameplay is old and janky but it holds up well enough and will be easy to overlook if you’re in it for the story.

    Cons
    - 2005 RPG - clunkiness ensues
    - mired with more technical issues than the first game
    - extremely helped by the Restored Content Mod as it ads events, items and cut content that makes the game feel a lot better

The Sith Lords is an amazing continuation of the stellar KotOR in every aspect besides technical. The game has been through a troubled and rushed development cycle leaving a lot of the content on the cutting room floor. Luckily we can see it today in a much more complete form through the community Restored Content Mod.

When it comes to the story, it is much looser than the first game. This is a fantastic thing for the sequel as it allows for much more opportunity to shape your character into being however you like it.

This is accomplished through a take on the Force that is so nuanced, I have not seen it replicated in any other Star Wars media. The philosophical angles through which the Force is studied in this game uncovers the darker and stagnant parts of the Light side, and the more caring and brutal parts of the Dark.

All of this is accomplished through one of the most interesting Star Wars characters ever made, Kreia. When I was younger I hated her as she took some of the most antagonistic stances against my goody two shoes character that I have ever seen. Replaying this game as an adult, Kreia is possibly one of the best representations of the Light side tempered by Dark and Dark side tempered by Light I have ever seen.

What also helps with this nuanced take is the dialogue. A lot of games offer me dialogue of three choices: Nice guy, Neutral potato and a Petulant child. This game, no no no. Almost every statement by any character has between six to ten responses, where they don't just not allow people's abuse, you make good points alongside that. Talking smack to Atris while standing your ground as a respectable human being is one of my favorite moments still to this day.

The combat has seen some improvements through new skills. The added benefit of being able to mentor most party members into becoming Jedi allows for some of the most fun gameplay the series ever had.

All in all, The Sith Lords is one of the best RPGs ever made and you should do yourself a favor of picking it up when you have time.

As good as the storyline and basic gameplay are, there are more than a few issues that keep this game from reaching the bar set by the first KotOR. The first: bugs. There a lot of them; most are just annoying, but a few are deadly.
  2. It's remarkable that the game's quest is every bit as big and complex as the original's. On the other hand, some unsightly technical issues and a general feeling of déjà vu will probably prevent you from feeling as strongly about The Sith Lords as you did or still do about the first game.

More importantly, all these mechanics -- the moral slider, the influence system, combat, etc. -- are surrounded by a first rate story that's almost as mythic and fantastic as the films themselves.
