Star Trek The Video Game

Star Trek isn't as bad as they say, although the game has more than it's share of problems. The story is nice, but the game itself is filled with stupidities. For a duo of trekkies this game offers ADHD thrill ride for a weekend. If Star Trek doesn't get your juices flowing, you better steer clear. [June 2013[

Star Trek does a good job in terms of script and atmosphere, and it's decent on long-distance gunplay. But the overall experience is poor and unpolished.

As one of those Star Trek fans I certainly did enjoy moments of The Videogame, but I think I would’ve had a lot more fun continuing with Star Trek Online instead. This one won’t live long and prosper, and good thing too.

It sounds good, but frankly, it just doesn't seem like developer Digital Extremes were able (or allowed) to put forth the time, money, or ingenuity to make anything but a Starfleet-themed cooperative shooter, complete with extreme use of cover-based gunfights, silly mini-games, or bad AI - all of which are generally considered hallmarks of a mediocre action game.

After this shock I must urgently re-play something better. For example, Aliens: Colonial Marines.

The best aspect of this game is probably Chris Pine & Co. lending their voices to their digital counterparts. Even the most loyal fans of Kirk, Spock and McCoy will struggle to find more positive features apart from that. With its poor graphics and animations, the questionable AI and the mindless story Star Trek: The Game gets in line with all the other license games that should better be left in the shelves.

Even if you're a life-long Star Trek fan like I am, you don't want to beam down anywhere near this thing.

Star Trek is a game with a lot of potential. None of which is being used. The game design is old, incomplete and riddled with bugs. The actors make a decent job and the co-op mode is alright but that is the only good things worth mentioning about this otherwise bland and forgettable tie-in to the movie.

A more ambitious script, combined with a few memorable levels, would have made for a pretty good game. Instead, Star Trek: The Game, is a boring experience that you will forget about soon after you are done with it.

Rooted in good intentions, but poorly executed.

Star Trek: The Video Game is as generic as the name implies. I spent more time wondering why I was doing the things I was doing, instead of just enjoying them. Hardcore fans of the series would be advised to wait until the game hits a massive sale, and you have someone else to play it with. Setting expectations low is a must to enjoy what is offered here.

Its numerous bugs and linear missions make it frustrating to play, and the story never grabs you like a good sci-fi adventure should. Even the most devoted of Star Trek fans will be hard pressed to find something to like in Star Trek The Video Game: there are simply too many glaring problems.

The level of entertainment is close to zero. At least the online support works fine.

It is so immensely tiresome, so poor and such a cash-in.

There's nothing that redeems this interpretation of Star Trek. Aside from a wealth of issues, it's nothing more than a generic, rushed product that doesn't have a single good idea in it. Don't spend a penny on it: Star Trek just isn't worth it.
