Star Trek: Bridge Crew may offer a steep learning curve to overcome, but if you've got a trusty crew by your side, there's serious fun to be had here for both fans and non-Trekkies alike. Interiors are well-rendered, control panels are easy to use, and action is intense, making it easy to lose yourself in the one of the first truly cooperative space sims in VR that offers a deeply engaging social component, hopefully lasting well into the 23rd century. [Tested with Oculus Touch; HTC Vive]

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Star Trek: Bridge Crew is that it’s a VR experience that encourages repeat play. Having put a decent amount of time into the title already, it’s understandable that some may hope for additional content added, such as an adversarial crew vs crew mode. What’s in the package already, though, makes for some hectic times and an incredible use of the technology. The message behind the actual game mechanics, that of the need for understanding and cooperation among the players, is possibly the most clever expression of the themes of the franchise a game has ever mustered.

As far as VR games go, Star Trek Bridge Crew is really solid, and hopefully over time Ubisoft expand the game’s content. There’s still so much more of Trek that could be explored. Star Trek Bridge Crew is must-buy for Star Trek fans with VR headsets, and, although it’s a little pricey, I think the experience is worth all the gold-pressed latinum you can muster.

Delivering on the dream of a Star Trek VR experience, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a fantastic new game for anyone with a VR setup. You might want more, but what is available will put a smile on your face and keep it there for hours.

The magic of Star Trek isn’t the ship, but in the crew, and Star Trek: Bridge Crew nails that mechanic perfectly. What might otherwise appear as a cold and stationary experience becomes amazing when played with friends. While the campaign isn’t as long as we were hoping, the ongoing voyages provide enough randomization to keep us busy. As I push the wobbly AI out of the airlock, allow me to heartily recommend Star Trek: Bridge Crew — it’s downright “fascinating”.

The production values are top notch making Star Trek: Bridge Crew one of those rare VR experiences that feels like a AAA title, and likely part of most VR gamers’ collections.

A thrilling, authentic recreation of Star Trek that brings out the team player in everyone. Just a shame it's such a pain to set-up.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a triumphant recreation of what it means to be on the bridge of an Enterprise-caliber ship from the classic sci-fi universe. If you play with friends then you’re bound to have an amazing time full of laughs, stress, and action. Playing alone is tough, but doable The bulk of your time will likely be spent with the randomized Ongoing Voyages mode since the campaign is brief and shallow. If you’re searching for a game that captures the esoteric and cerebral nature of Star Trek, though, then you’ll be a bit disappointed.

Star Trek fans can't miss this experience, but the lacking content and some problems leave a bad taste in our mouths.

While I was playing Star Trek: Bridge Crew alone, I couldn’t stop cursing the mundane gameplay, the dull waiting time and the technical flaws. But together as a team, the cooperative idea worked immediately and I would have liked to never leave the USS Aegis or the Enterprise again.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew feels like a promising first draft of a fantastic Trek simulator, but it only goes boldly for a few hours. After the novelty of finally sitting on a beautiful Federation starship bridge wears off and you’ve exhausted the handful of mission types, all that’s left is the goofy physical comedy of messing around with your friends or strangers in VR.

While the concept is a prime example for a meaningful implementation of VR into otherwise rather dry gameplay mechanics, the lack of content is very harmful. A great virtual experience hidden in a weak game.

Yes much of the content there is focuses heavily on combat. Yes they've played rather fast and loose with elements of the trek universe. Yes much of the control and simulation are a bit too simple, and yes it's priced rather excessively.

Yet I find myself coming back time and time again, somehow despite the above the actual gameplay feels compelling, the experience of being on the bridge so convincing and the interaction with, what is easily the best community I've encountered in an online game, so entertaining and rewarding. Even when playing on your own there is something special about this game. Sure it's not the perfect spaceship game, nor is it the perfect Star Trek game. But when you add the sheer awesomeness of being transported onto the Bridge of a Starship thanks to the power of VR it becomes one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a very long time.

We're at the start of the journey here, with luck the game will expand well beyond what's there today, but even if it doesn't this is an unmissable experience. A real indication of how amazing VR is.

This is what makes VR so exciting...it creates completely new gaming experiences never imagined before. Must buy if you have a PSVR and if not another reason to buy one. Full Review »

The game does have some flaws such as minimal options when it comes to avatar customisation, poor lip synching, the forcing of VOIP to be always-on, the lack of licensed music as well as it being pretty fiddly to setup if buying from the UPlay store, but it also seems to capture the feeling of being a Starfleet captain quite well and if you can happen to rope three Trekkie mates to play the game regularly, then it would definitely be a worthwhile addition to your collection.
