It is still a conventional RTS game and has issues with longevity as it can become boring and repetitive, but with the thirty missions and with multiplayer capabilities, you should get your money's worth.
-
There's a ton of new goodies to like -- new races, new gameplay options, a trading economy model and new interface options. It's certainly a good game, but now the dilemma before me was whether I preferred the original game or its sequel, in terms of interface and game play.
-
Yes Armada 2 is good, but when it gets bad its plain ugly. You gotta love it.
-
The things they have added do not drag the game down. In many ways they are great improvements. But they dont go as far towards making the game a truly deep, satisfying RPG as they could.
-
While it ends up a solid, more refined, feature robust RTS experience opposed to its progenitor, it's still not the strategic Star Trek game fans such as myself have been so eagerly awaiting.
-
In practice not all of these new features are successful. In fact, if you enjoyed the original Armada, you might find yourself nostalgic for that game while playing Armada II.
-
PC GamerThe crux of the problem is that its just plain dull. [Feb 2002, p.74]
-
While the campaign mode doesn't offer as much arcade action and the new strategic additions actually lessen the overall space combat feel, there's still plenty here for Trek fans and non-Trekkies alike.
-
It's highly likely that the relative lack of gaming sophistication will result in only a shortlived appeal for seasoned strategy heads.
-
Given the epic scope and the gorgeous visuals, it's a shame that so much extra micromanagement was thrown in and so much of the balance and Trek-ness was crowded out.
-
Computer Gaming WorldThe graphics engine has the thick, slow feeling of dragging through syrup, and the interface looks surprisingly chintzy. [Mar 2002, p.83]
-
Indeed, it seems as though very little thought has been put into the single player campaign full stop...What's worse is the fact that the computer cheats like fury in the single-player campaigns.
-
Ultimately it is the lack of polish found pretty much everywhere in the game that makes it feel like less of a sequel and more like a pricey Star Trek: Armada MOD.
