GSC Game World nails a unique mixture of genres between survival horror and open world with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The atmospheric environments, engaging gunplay, and the constant feeling of threat culminate in a heavy recommendation from me for fans of the genre.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl looks incredible, and the enigmatic Zone captivates you with the force of an atomic explosion. It offers an outstanding blend of shooting, survival elements, and one of the most stunning open worlds of the modern era. While it suffers from a few technical hiccups, these are easily forgiven in light of its exceptional quality.

Overall, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is truly something special. It's not perfect, but it manages to succeed in some major areas that many other games fall short in. Its open world is one of the best I've been in for quite some time, but its morally gray choice-driven narrative is also something worth writing home about, with the immense amount of player power it offers. Stalker 2's combat is challenging and exciting, and there is almost never a dull moment as players explore the Zone. So long as players can look past some of its blemishes that are arguably overshadowed by its best features, they'll find a memorable and worthwhile experience in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

A miracle? Against all expectations S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 has really managed to resurrect the series, and without affecting its most important features, without betraying its philosophy. By remaining itself, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 reaffirms its uniqueness.

Stalker 2 brings the series into the modern era with stunning visuals while staying true to its hardcore FPS roots. The game retains what made the series unique, with difficult action, expansive environments and a rich story. However, minor issues such as weaker animations, AI and minor bugs detract from the experience.

One of the most beloved games is finally back, not without some flaws but overflowing with content capable of sticking us to the screen for weeks to come. A fantastic open world, alive, populated by believable NPCs that will lead us along a well-told story with various side quests to face in order to obtain a particular item or just for the pleasure of exploring the Zone. Superbly crafted maps worthy of a PvP shooter go hand in hand with survival horror atmosphere and gameplay. Some features, such as crafting and food management, are barely sketched out, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will succeed in breaking through the hearts of all first person RPG fans.

If you're looking for a game where "taking a walk" potentially means encountering psychic anomalies, mutants, hungry folks, and stalkers who probably want your last can of beans, then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is your game. It's like extreme camping where you forgot the tent, food, and sanity at home. Is it worth venturing into the Zone? Absolutely. Even if it's just to brag about surviving to tell the tale. And if you find that last can of dog food, save it for me. You never know when radiation might work up an appetite. And remember, stalker: in the Zone, it's not paranoia if everything really is trying to kill you. Now, who's ready for an adventure?

Although this may not be a perfect game, it must be honestly said that no one ever expected this from Stalker. The atmosphere, harshness, and unforgettable adventures in the Zone matter - and Stalker 2 has more than enough of that.

Stalker 2 is an immaculate game, riddled with so many technical issues that it sometimes becomes unbearable. Despite the issues, the game below the surface is spectacular, providing you with some of the most immersive survival FPS experiences you can have. Its mystical setting and stellar shooting mechanics are enough to transcend the technical issues and provide you with an unforgettable experience.

Just like in the old days, performance issues and bugs don't stop Stalker's mad, wonderful heart from shining through.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a unique gameplay experience in which stress is part of the fun. While a multitude of bugs and other issues stand in its way, the game’s appeal is strong enough to overcome these shortcomings. While difficult to understand for newcomers, the story is a perfect culmination of the series and the ultimate love letter to its fans.

STALKER 2 did not manage to scare me off, despite many issues. The technical bugs couldn’t fight the magic of this game. It shows perfectly how hard it is to give a one, final note – both high and low notes can be justified with many arguments. It all boils down to: how much can you forgive for the opportunity to dive into the Zone?

Despite the many bugs, we enjoyed our hours in 'the zone'. The beautiful landscapes, the constant threat, the balancing of factions and the challenging battles make Heart of Chornobyl one of the better shooters of 2024. Unfortunately, you have to take the bugs with it - unless you have the patience to delay your purchase for a few updates, but then you have a stronger character than we do.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a worthy successor of the original in every regard, good and bad. The vision is the same: an uncompromising game that will often frustrate you, but also offers a unique experience that can hardly be found anywhere else. It's the classic example where the total is more than the mere sum of its parts. Bugs and balance issues are still very much an issue, but they shouldn't stand in your way of playing, especially if you're willing to wait a while for developers and modders to fix them. If you enjoy open world games and shooters and don't mind a challenge, there's no reason for you to pass up on this game.

Like the Exclusion Zone of Chornobyl Zone since 1986, STALKER 2 seems like stuck in a time bubble that ignores current industry standards. With the exception of a very beautiful artistic direction thanks to a cleverly exploited Unreal Engine 5. We indeed find everything that made the success of the franchise in its time. Namely a fascinating open world to explore, albeit extremely oppressive which requires nerves of steel. The title may, however, put off newcomers who are not used to such a demanding experience, but will reward a hundredfold the most courageous ones ready to venture into it. We also appreciate the care taken in an intriguing story to follow, dictated by our choices. Despite several flaws that could break the pace or an otherwise impressive immersion and the presence of some more or less annoying bugs, STALKER 2 has come a long way. The 14 years of waiting for an unexpected return in such solid form deserves, in our opinion, to salute the determination and the deep testimony of love of GSC Game World towards this iconic license. As inhospitable as it is, the Zone tentatively invites us to get lost in it for hours of pleasure mixed with anxiety. A truly unique video game experience, which ultimately only needs a good layer of polish to truly shine.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl recaptures the franchise's signature blend of emergent gameplay, atmospheric design, and hardcore survival mechanics in a stunningly realized Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. While the game is packed with content and breathtaking visuals, its glaring technical issues and unpolished systems hold it back, making it a game worth revisiting after future patches.

It's a shame that the developers didn't have a few more months to finish their masterpiece. Despite the shocking number of bugs and flaws, Stalker 2 is an insanely addictive title that you just want to come back to. It's one of the most atmospheric open worlds I've ever experienced.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a testament to the perseverance of its creators in the face of extreme adversity. The technical problems are undeniable, but the unique atmosphere, tense combat and deep immersion it offers are unrivalled. It's a game that demands patience and understanding, both of its mechanics and its development context, but rewards the player with one of the most distinctive and memorable experiences of recent years. With the promised updates and fixes, including the full implementation of the A-Life 2.0 system, it has the potential to become something transcendental. For now, it remains like a diamond in the rough - hard around the edges, but brilliant at its core. For those willing to accept its imperfections and fully immerse themselves in its hostile and fascinating world, Heart of Chornobyl offers something that few modern games can.

And yes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 needs to improve and if you're not that specific type of player we mentioned above, you'd probably better wait a few weeks to give the studio time to fix certain bugs, but despite everything, our experience in The Zone, with its inhabitants, its dangers and even its glitches has been very special and, at least the person writing this, would like to see more games of this type that become cult games over time, with their errors, glitches and room for improvement than the umpteenth AAAA adventure or cookie-cutter multiplayer game, something too common these days.

When it’s firing on all cylinders, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a rare treat that scratches the itch left behind by those older PC games, where the onus was on you to figure out how to survive and thrive in an unforgiving place that doesn’t care if you live or die. It's refreshing, brutal, and a masterclass in creating a brooding atmosphere that I loved basking in, bringing new life to a place as tragic and desolate as The Zone. Once the main quest gained momentum, the choices I made and the work required to reach the end left me invested in a suspenseful story that builds on the ambitions of its predecessors. There are, however, foundational problems that are hard to ignore, like bizarre enemy behavior in combat and the many bugs and performance issues that persist after launch. But for those with the patience and determination required for a massive, intentionally inelegant shooter, those are inconveniences worth enduring; STALKER 2 is a gripping exploration of Chornobyl, and there’s just nothing like it.

GSC Game World brings its ambitions to life in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, with a hauntingly atmospheric open field that perfectly captures the bleak, morally ambiguous life of a stalker. However, severe technical issues make even shader compilation feel like a prayer-worthy event.

Stalker 2 is a punishing survival FPS that can be extremely rewarding for those who take the time to get comfortable in its playground. A few technical issues aside, there's not much else out there like this.

Stalker 2 is a strange, brave and sometimes broken paean to resistance in the face of overwhelming odds. It is utterly uncompromising in its vision, often to a fault, and envelopes you in its dark spell of science, violence and chaos. Certainly, if you loved Dragon’s Dogma 2, which similarly edged towards self-parody with its offbeat systems, eccentric characters and overall jankiness, you will cope fine with this game’s technical and narrative inconsistencies. Indeed, like the stalkers that inhabit its damaged world, you may shrug, improvise, and carry on. If you thought developers weren’t making vast, outlandish, utterly singular open-world games any more, you were wrong: they are. And some of them have been through hell to do it.

In spite of lots of bugs and systems that aren‘t quite ready, Stalker 2 exceeded my expectations. It is truly rare that I desperately want to see everything a game world has to offer - but once the Zone‘s deadly beauty and shocking immersion had grabbed me, it never let me go once.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl stands tall as one of the most captivating open-world shooters I've ever played, with a palpable atmosphere and deeply rewarding exploration that kept me glued to my seat along with addictively intense and dynamic action that kept me on the edge of it. Some major issues with certain mutant encounters and noteworthy bugs and performance snags take away from the experience, but even so, The Zone will engross you with its haunting wonders. There's truly nothing else like it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl remains true to its core philosophy: to create an immersive and unforgiving Zone that feels as alive as it is hostile. Every would-be explorer must endure harsh conditions and relentless challenges, testing their resolve until they either give up or fully embrace the Zone's brutal logic and become a part of it. This experience closely mirrors the spirit of the original trilogy, making S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 feel authentic to its roots. However, some of its hardcore and overly rigid systems may prove too alienating for a broader audience, potentially limiting its appeal.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 offers an excellent framework on which more can be built. The world, especially the Zone, is just oozing with style, and the systems that are present are worth investing in, despite how shallow they can feel compared to other games in adjacent genres. Honestly, if I wasn’t so enamoured with this gorgeous world, I’d be scoring this lower. Similarly, if there was just more to do and richer systems in place to engage with, it’d be higher. I think that those out there who love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise will feel at home in this game, as the world is stunning, the sense of loneliness and isolation permeates everything, and the combat against the human factions is intense. Fortunately, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is still on its path to greatness. It’s just going to need a little more love to get it to its destination. I just hope the rest of the journey is a bit faster than Skif’s walking speed.

Making games is hard, regardless, and the fact that the team was able to put together a package like this that's so earnest, so passionate in its revisit of a world enshrined in PC gaming's history, is more than impressive. It's an admirable feat that I hope isn't lost on the general gaming crowd who don't know too much about the games outside of their time playing them. I would recommend Stalker 2 to fans of the Stalker series, obviously, and as anyone with a love of open world FPS games and distinct sci-fi. The good thing is it's available on Game Pass, so you can pay less than full price and try it out.

Stalker 2 stands out as an impressive and immersive survival shooter. A huge, handcrafted world with interesting story choices, lots of content and quality all around. Refreshingly, you are not a superhero out to save the world, but a regular grunt trying to survive.

Bugs and performance issues aside, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is an excellent game. Despite all the hurdles, GSC Game World has matched and exceeded expectations with this dystopian shooter. An addictive game world, satisfying and challenging gunplay, combined with plenty of characters that bring the Zone to life makes the whole package an experience I won't soon be forgetting.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a game that, in my opinion, is all too rare in this form. GSC Game World has managed to create an incredibly atmospheric combination of survival, horror and end time in a fascinating environment. Despite all the shooter weaknesses, the wooden dialogues, the incredibly annoying anomalies over time and some dubious technical problems, I fell in love with this zone. You won't find that much freedom and mystery anywhere else. Added to this is a story that takes its time to get it going, but then surprises with cool factions and robust characters. This excursion to Chernobyl requires patience and stamina, but rewards you with spectacular views, fierce battles and an expressive end time.

You already know if you'll like GSC's newest entry in the series. If you like Call of Pripyat, you'll like this. If you didn't, Heart of Chornobyl rarely hides any true improvements to the formula. It's exactly what fans expect, albeit with a fancy, oftentimes gorgeous, new lick of paint and some modern sensibilities, but it's Stalker through and through - for better and for worse.

If GSC had waited a little longer to release the game, the anomaly would not be so abundant. You may want to wait for a few more patches for much better experience.

STALKER 2 can be a fun experience as you work your way through the game. The initial area will feel like the toughest because of how much it can take you by surprise. Still, as you gradually expand to other locations, find new gear, and embrace the thought of being prepared, it’s rewarding in all the right ways, even if getting there feels like climbing an irradiated mountain.
