Overall this was a very good modern take on classic games and something that I thoroughly enjoyed having played the physical card games as a youngster.

At the end of the day, though, it doesn’t know its audience — and games that don’t understand who they’re for typically fail to capture anyone.

A perfectly functioning card game. Add two points to the score if you appreciate the majesty of the genre.

Surprisingly, the game’s greatest strength may be its free-to-play model.

Its biggest strength is also its main weakness. It is a very good version of a familiar game. The card art is beautiful, the user interface is crisp and clean, the booster packs are frustratingly realistic, the deck builds are flavorful and diverse, and it all feels a great deal like card games most genre fans have played before. It's an excellent take on the trading card game, digital or otherwise, but given that it's competing in a very well established place, it might not do enough to develop a huge audience.

Some cards have slight questionable balance but nothing absurd. and the devs seem to care about the game. Full Review »

I have tired paper MTG, MTGO, and all the other games released, but none could really provide the experience I wanted without requiring large sums of money. Spellweaver does well in giving me the required experience, without requiring my wallet. It makes itself unique from other card games currently on the market mostly with its inclusion of a speed stat for creature cards. It was very recently released on Steam, and I am excited for it to be gaining traction and growing and developing. Hopefully will be seeing it as a standalone competitor to other similar card games, as it promises a lot. Full Review »
