Sonokuni stands out for its incredible sense of style, giving the game a unique identity and a wealth of hype-filled moments you won’t forget. While the story can feel a bit underwhelming and the difficulty a bit high, you’re sure to appreciate whatever time you decide to spend with this incredibly unique title.

SONOKUNI’s fast-paced combat collides with the raw energy of a hip-hop soundtrack crafted by the DON YASA CREW. Its visuals can sometimes be overwhelming, but the intense action will keep you coming back for more—to take on the same enemies that once bested you, even when your fingers ache. It challenges you, frustrates you, and yet, somehow, always pulls you back in.

Sonokuni is a blisteringly stylish, Hotline Miami-inspired action game that fuses razor-sharp gameplay with a culturally rich narrative and a hypnotic Japanese rap soundtrack. While a few technical hiccups and quality-of-life gripes slow it down, the game’s bold artistic choices and challenging combat offer a short but unforgettable experience.

Sonokuni is a manic trip boasting fun, frantic combat. The boss fights don't do it justice, however.

While Sonokuni is a flawed action experience, we're grateful for it as a showcase of music we might not well have heard otherwise, and perhaps not appreciated in the same way. [Issue#410, p.122]
