Soldier of fortune 2 WAS a good game but by today's standards its down right AWFUL. i imagin i will get a lot of flack for this but i played this game 100% without nostalgia goggles and it was easily worst than the first one it tried to hard to be something its not and has aged so poorly.

Story: Its stupid. you are john mullins who is an OK character hes basically an action movie

Story: Its stupid. you are john mullins who is an OK character hes basically an action movie stereotype but at least hes kinda entertaining and is voiced well but its so cliche and clearly borrows from 80s action movies a little TO heavily its at the very least an excuse to get to the next place and that's fine its an old game story doesn't really matter much. the plot twists are as predictable as a bad episode of CSI. at least the story is coherent enough to be easily ignoreable.
    Story: 4/10

World building: the world building just like the story is just as cliche as an 80s action movie BUT at least this world is portrayed as realistic and follows its own rules and is not contradictory. its functional but nothing ground breaking.
    World building: 5/10

Graphics: the graphics are terrible even for 2002 standards, james bond night fire came out this same year and that game still holds up today , super mario sunshine still looks better than most games today and that came out that year too. SOF has never really been know for its graphics but i think i preferred the first games it was simple and easy to play , here i have to sift through lots of minute details to find an objective that can only be accessed by a tiny space and touching it , at least the first one was less cumbersome.
    Graphics: 3/10

Gameplay: at this point you are probabaly wondering " well why do people love this game when this guy hates it so much" well because it innovated , it was the FIRST for certain mechanics , like prone , leaning and stealth , witch were all done horribly, when prone you cant reload or shoot its strictly for scripted events and maybe hiding , stealth is immediately broken when you are in front of an enemy , so they can turn around abruptly and stealth broken ( Don't attempt stealth) and some levels if you don't stealth an annoying siren plays until the level is beat ( WHO'S IDEA WAS THAT) the leaning is OK except it doesn't work right and often i ended up shooting walls or blowing my self up because of terrible object impact. the shooting was pretty abysmal considering how much fun the previous game was. this is a slow methodical tactical shooter in the same veins of the old ghost recon. when the first game was a run and gun quake style game and going from one to the other its very jarring and the shift doesn't work. grenades have no detection so just run any where in hopes you dont blow up. enemy ai has super sight. recoil is so obnoxious on some guns they are unusable , and pistoles are so weak and slow firing they are redundant. the only thing done well in this game is the gore.
    Gameplay: 1/10

Sound design: forgetable music , annoying gun sounds BUT the voice acting has improved since the first game i can safely say that. i had alot of audio bugs of characters saying randoms sayings over and over untill the died and gun shots would peak and cut out
    Sound design: 4/10

    4+5+3+1+4=17
    15/5= 3.4/10

don't waste a single dollar on this game , i cant believe i beat this game it was so long too , the campaign is 11 hours long , witch made it an extra chore. i tortured my self just to make this review.

This game sucks! Awful graphics and unfair AI. Jedi Outcast and NOLF are much better!

It's just like the first game but worse in every aspect. I was extremely let down by this game when it was released, it's uninspired, weapons feel and sound worse, the revolutionary gore system was downgraded and have never been seen again in a FPS since the first game... The entire game that used to be fast action just slows down and you even have to go to meetings (yes It's just like the first game but worse in every aspect. This game is boring. I played SoF 1 and that game had a great original atmosphere (Stop screaming!), very exciting to play. This one doesn't have atmosphere.

Whos made level design for this game should never be involved in game development. I didn't enjoyed it.

With solid action, great graphics and lots of replay value, SoF2 is easily one of the best action games of the year.
  2. It's a shame that the single player campaign is such a letdown - SoF 2 is an incredibly addictive multiplayer game, and if the polish shown to the online portion had transferred over to the single player game, we'd have a candidate of GOTY 2002 here.

Anyone who gets off on the violence in this game is reveling in violence solely for violence's sake. [Sept 2002, p.78]
