Soccer Story is a good mix of soccer matches and adventure elements, with a world packed with side activities and cute details. It takes a little while to get used to the quick, tackle-driven matches. Playing an upgraded team against a solid computer opponent is both challenging and fun. This football-powered universe might not make a ton of sense but it is interesting to explore. It would work better with a smaller number of side activities. Soccer Story offers an exotic approach to the sport and builds a ton of fun mechanics around the simple act of kicking a ball at a target.

Soccer Story has some great ideas, and makes football a vessel for solving fun puzzles and reintroducing the game back to the world.

Soccer Story is an adventure capable of entertaining those who love football thanks to many fun challenges, a light atmosphere and the constant promise of new things to come. Some technical problems, easily circumvented AI and an RPG soul only hinted are its limits, but it remains a love letter to football for football lovers.

Soccer Story is rather simple in terms of gameplay, but it does carry an interesting novelty thanks to its soccer gimmick. It also features a cute plot with quirky characters that harken back to the classic top-down RPGs of the SNES era. Fans of these old titles and retro sports games alike could get some enjoyment out of Soccer Story’s genre-blending premise, and it isn’t too difficult for younger players to pick up.

At the beginning of this review, I was trying not to compare this game to Dodgeball Academia. It takes a long time to develop an indie game, and I have little evidence that the two have anything to do with each other. But it’s hard not to look at these two games next to each other and see that the things I really adored about one are mostly absent from the other. There’s definitely an enjoyable experience to be had with Soccer Story, but you’ll need to have a high tolerance for jank to find enjoyment in it.

Soccer Story is okay when it tries to do the Japanese RPG, but bad when it turns into a soccer game. We honestly expected much better.

Soccer Story provides some enjoyable basic entertainment that comes from just kicking the ball around and taking on the challenges and targets as players explore. Some of the puzzles and challenges are good fun and satisfying to complete, but there are also many that are made more frustrating than they need to be. With a flawed match system that becomes trivial once its workings have been figured out and technical issues that stack up as the game progresses, it’s incredibly tough to recommend.

История совсем не зацепила, уж слишком вторично она сделана по меркам подобных инди.

Quite enjoyed this game until the hitting shark game, the controls are just not made for something like that, and it wasn't fun, so I quit.
