Sniper Elite V2

Sniper Elite V2 is a good and solid action sniper game. The story about the V2 scientists is nice, well narrated and motivates to keep playing. The graphics are not good, but ok and if you can manage that, you can give it a try.

Rebellion studio has returned with Sniper Elite franchise and has proven that there is a place for a game dedicated solely to sniper duty. Target hit effects are great throughout the entire game. [June 2012]

I have to admit that my expectations were much lower, but it's fun to cower in the shadows and work out the perfect way to the target and then get the timing just right.

One of the few games in which ballistics really matter. Long range combat is very rewarding thanks to great X-ray animations depicting deadly shots. Close quarters combat on the other hand is terrible. [June 2012, p.62]

This isn't the kind of game that you'll return to once completed, but as something a little different to the usual shooter formula it offers surprising satisfaction.

Many better shooters out there, where you can assume a sniper's role as well. What does V2 have to counter-offer? Had it followed another path, with more emphasis on stealth and the preparation of the shot, it could have made a difference, as a game of another subgenre. [July 2012]

Sniper Elite V2 is very much worth a go. The game as the title implies has plenty of third person action going on here, with a good dose of sniping opportunities. The kill cam with the X-ray twist is novel but used too much can get actually old fast, used as a reward for a well-placed Sniper shot would have been better. This would have given the player that sense of reward and accomplishments. This does not make the game bad or a major let down in anyway. It is just an observation and my humble opinion.

The biggest problem with Sniper Elite V2 is that the game doesn't invite players to actually play like a sniper. The lacking artificial intelligence and the auxiliary instruments at your disposal let you play the game like you're Rambo himself. The shooting is decent enough though, and it offers enough entertainment when actually trying to play it like a sniper. But thoroughness and exra additions would have gone a long way for this game.

Your level of enjoyment will be almost directly mapped to how entertaining you find the visual spectacle to be, and - for me at least - it was perfectly good fun in short bursts.

Sniper Elite V2 is a well-made game that suffers from some flaws. The biggest one: artificial intelligence. It's hard to overlook it's mistakes if they happen almost constantly. But other that that we get a meaty campaign with good co-op and multiplayer modes. Balistics - although a bit limited - gives a lot of satisfaction.

It's too bad that everything outside of the sniping is so mediocre.

Considering the multiplayer aspects are the brightest spots of Sniper, it's asking price of $50 feels about $10 too high, but it's something I'd definitely consider come sale season.

Although snipers could regain a good name thanks to this title, artificial intelligence and level design of some missions along with other flaws knock this game to the ground. If the levels were sufficiently large and open-ended, if artificial intelligence of enemy soldiers was more than just a range from killing machines to incompetent bots, it could be a smash. Unfortunately, in this case it's only a slightly above-average title.

This is not a sophisticated game in ethos or execution: it's a series of environments in which you shoot men's balls off in slow motion. But this singular calling is, on the whole, well served, and Sniper Elite V2's perfunctory ancillary mechanics don't distract from the practice of cinematic Nazi gelding.

Lining up good shots and laying low dozens of foes is a lot of fun, though it can get tiresome to fight your way through yet another area newly populated with thick-headed rifle fodder. Your tolerance for transparently game-y elements will go a long way toward determining how much you enjoy this glorified shooting gallery, but if you relish a good headshot, Sniper Elite V2 has got you covered.

Behind the flashy graphics and the brutal depiction of gore, the game is surprisingly mundane, eschewing what made the original work while including no new features of its own.
