Sniper Elite: Resistance combines its incredible single-player experience with some clever multiplayer features, making a game that is truly fun to play, even with its lackluster enemy AI.

Sniper Elite Resistance has taken what makes the series great and honed it even further, building upon the success and fan-favorite aspects of Sniper Elite 5 and tweaking it to provide even more excitement and fun. It is still immensely satisfying to get a long-range shot without assistance in one go, or to manage to attach a sticky grenade to an enemy and have it go off amongst other troops. Definitely worth grabbing a copy if you are a fan of the series or sniping games in general.

Sniper Elite: Resistance is a fantastic time, with its minor flaws rarely impacting the experience.

Sniper Elite: Resistance isn't really doing anything new, and that's ok. It's sticking to a tried and true formula and delivering on promises for solid gameplay mechanics spread out over sprawling open levels. It does carry forward the best features ironed out in previous games like kill cams, a balance of stealth and action, freedom to meet objectives, and even Invasion mode to add some spice to the mix if you're so inclined. It's not groundbreaking but it doesn't have to be because it follows a well trodden path that is already established and frankly just a lot of fun to play.

Sniper Elite: Resistance is another great entry into a relatively overlooked stealth franchise. While the game feels a little more like an expansion pack to Sniper Elite 5 rather than a full-fledged sequel, it still hits the highs of the previous entry with great level design and satisfying sniping. Meanwhile, the new Propaganda Challenge mode offers a nice arcade-style distraction.

Sniper Elite: Resistance is very much worth your time if you have any interest in sniping, exploring maps in occupied France, or feeling like an action hero from WWII movies. The shooting mechanics, both at long-range and in close quarters, are fun and satisfying. There's nothing quite like using the sound of the thunderstorm to mask your sniper shots, or landing several silenced headshots from your pistol in a row. Gathering collectibles, unlocking attachments for your weapons, and finding new and interesting ways to tackle each objective gives Sniper Elite: Resistance a lot of replay value. Add in co-op mode, the Invasion mode, and all-out multiplayer, plus DLC and a season pass, and you'll be spending many hours behind enemy lines. If you're like me, it may just be the best time you've had in a stealth action game since Splinter Cell.

Sniper Elite: Resistance is a solid "more of the same" of the fifth chapter, or a "Hitman with a sniper rifle" for the ones not used to the series. And it feels good.

More of a sidequel than a true sequel, Sniper Elite: Resistance delivers the core experience of Sniper Elite 5 with a new protagonist, fresh maps, and the same solid stealth mechanics that made the previous entry enjoyable. While it may not offer the evolution some fans were hoping for, the game still provides plenty of fun thanks to its well-designed levels and satisfying gameplay.

Graphical caveats aside, Sniper Elite: Resistance is fun to play not only because of the various game modes but how you can approach missions. The developers also devoted significant effort to ballistics and weapons handling. Veteran players will feel right at home. New players will be delighted with the variety of missions. Both will be delighted with the options of how they can play them.

A fun stealth game that lacks fresh ideas.

It's easy to see Sniper Elite: Resistance as one of the few games extending the life of the "B game" because it really is. It's not completely unpolished, nor does it lack heart. Some of its jankiness can even be amusing, such as the time I sniped an officer 100 feet away, only for his hat to land next to me a few seconds later. Some inconsistencies can nevertheless be as frustrating as the fights against other players can be thrilling. It's a relatively brief experience that's banking on a bevy of modes to maximize replayability, and it does that well, too, as long as the player meshes well with the core gameplay and, more critically, can customize the experience to their liking. Whether or not it's "worth it" is more broad than all of that, though. It's telling that this is the first entry in the series to forgo a number without being an entry in the Nazi Zombie Army spinoff (or VR, if you count that). It does not make any significant advancements in the long-running series, but it also doesn't falter harder than the others, either.

Although it doesn't surpass Sniper Elite 5, it tells another story from the same era. At the moment, there's no better alternative where you can prevent the end of the world by clicking on heads. The online options, where you can join other people's games and hunt them down, are quite satisfying. Sniper Elite Resistance manages to live up to its name, neither falling short nor overdoing it.

Fun sniping, big open areas, and enjoyable side content highlights the strengths of the franchise. Wonky AI and a dull, overpowered protagonist hurt things a little in the close-combat though.

All in all, even after over 20 hours of play as I completed the campaign and obtained all sorts of collectibles, Sniper Elite: Resistance just wasn’t the exciting romp that I hoped it would be. As someone who’s played all the mainline entries in the series, Resistance is a forgettable offering that you can skip. It’s proof that the team at Rebellion needs to come up with something refreshing for its flagship franchise’s future, as opposed to overcooking it in the proverbial air fryer and serving it à la carte.

The cohesive stealth elements, combined with great stories and hammy B-Movie voice acting, make them feel right at home in my library. [Strongly Recommended]
