Slime Heroes is a charming soulslike that serves as a fantastic entry point for newcomers to the genre while offering plenty of fun for seasoned players. The game’s highly accessible co-op makes an already enjoyable experience even better, allowing you to share the adventure with friends or family.

I want to be clear: despite all of the technical issues Slime Heroes has, I think it’s a good game if you’re playing alone. I have high hopes for the co-op once it’s fixed. It’s charming and cute and playing with the spell system is a good time, and it has the ebb and flow of combat that makes Souls-likes fun. If you’re looking for a kinder, gentler Souls-like, Slime Heroes is the game for you. It just feels unfinished. I hope Pancake Games gets to fix it, because this is a hero’s journey you should be able to take together because… y’know, that’s kind of the point. Nobody saves the world alone.

Slime Heroes is a magical kids’ game with a hint of the Soulslike genre sprinkled onto it. While it’s not an exact replica of the genre, there are elements of it that make it a great way to introduce the genre to a younger audience. Even if you try to set the game to easy mode, it will still challenge you regardless of whether that would be the environment or the boss’ move sets. While there is not much to do in the overworld, it’s still such a colourful game with a great story to tell, and your skills will be tested if you’re willing to challenge yourself.

Slime Heroes is a decent enough “Babies First Dark Souls” but fails to do anything interesting with the core concept of being a Slime.
