I just wish this game was longer. Getting every achievement and 100% takes you around 40 hours, I don't think that is long enough, And the AI is pretty crappy sometimes. The main story is pretty linear and doesn't offer any branching paths, But i was okay with that because the story was so good. Expand

Sleeping Dogs is a addictive and fun game. The interpretation of Hong Kong is amazing though as someone who lived in Hong Kong for most of their lives, i cant help but feel that they could have included more areas.
The fighting mechanic of the game is really clean and fun. Driving can be at times a bit "floaty".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm actually really really surprised about this game. I was originally approaching it as just another GTA Clone but it's not just a straight clone it adds it's own things and is original in some areas. The game looks amazing on the PC if you have installed the High Resolution Textures DLC but be warned you will need a somewhat good gaming rig if you want it to be playable. The melee combat is freaking awesome. If you've played any of the Arkham Batman games you will feel right at home it's somewhat the same system with quick counters and the like. But with that being said the shooting portions of the game really let the combat down it's mediocre at best but luckily a huge portion of the combat is melee orientated. The driving is average. Nothing special to scream about cept the option to jump out your car action movie style onto another one and the physics defying sideways shunting you can do to take down pursuing vehicles. The story is enough at least for me to be entertained for a while. It's not overly action movie like but it is predictable in some spots. I really like the system of leveling up both your gang level and your cop level to really tailor the character to your liking. Even though from the sounds of it this game was in a development hell for a while I'm glad the developers stuck by until a publisher finally saw the great potential the game had and released it. This game wasn't even on my radar until I saw it for sale for 50% off and for 25$ I think it's a great game worth the pick up. Expand

More than a surprise ! .... i know that Square and United's are good company but make games on an "Average" basis .... BUT THIS!! .. is as surprising like Saints Row of THQ .. well optimized , good visuals .. fine story .... nice core elemental gameplay ... in short .... it seems to be worked and polished a great way ..... There are some texture failures and hiccups.. but still worth Port for PC

I personally loved the storyline; this can be viewed as an Asian version of GTA with much improvements. The city size is comparable to GTAIV, and is busily packed as expected in Hong Kong. More importantly, this game felt REAL. Although a variety of firearms can be had, the fighting is primarily combat based; Brawling. Although you ultimately unlock all character abilities for the 3 categories (police, triad, respect) by leveling up with experience gained from missions, special combat moves can only be unlocked by finding hidden statues delivered to this master guru. If you have ever played Batman Arkham (Asylum or City), this is a much more refined and developed fighting system. You must respond swiftly to counter attack, or utilize the environment for awesome finishing moves. (smash head repeated with car door or refridgerator, smash them into a dumpster, or telephone booth.. so many more!) You are also able to open trunks of cars to search for weapons like a tire iron, knife, or pistol. All of these aspects seem very fitting and realistic; No, you wont be able to cycle through all 8 weapons you are carrying, or customize your car beyond its paint job, but you can get some 'asian massages' which always help, heh heh. The story line is terrific, but then again, I'm asian. Nonetheless, I felt vested with Shen, which I think is cornerstone to a good gaming experience. As an undercover cop / asian triad gangster... my number one challenge was driving on the left side of the road. At high speeds it can get quite challenging to drive on the opposite isde of the road. Especially in police missions, you lose points for stealing cars, hurting civilians, or damaging public property. You can also lose points for being 'clumsy', such as running into a table or tripping when chasing an enemy. I thought that was quirky. Upon completing the main story, I had maxed out my Respect, Police, and Combat abilities. I was short on triad points; apparently I was not violent enough! I think this helps reinforce generating cool, unique combo attacks for more exp points than shooting with a gun (unless headshot, some bonus exp). During long fights, subsequent combos will charge and release your 'fear meter', when your enemies basically cower for several seconds at your awesomeness while you do some extra damage, ha! There are several in-game puzzles, like cracking a safe or 'grid', but they were all trivial at best, which I preferred. I dont like games that make you stop your intense action to play sudoku before unlocking your objective. Anyways, the graphics are AMAZING. And the atmosphere of the City makes you feel 'in the zone'. At 54hrs, I completed the main story line with >50% progress for most of the side stories, missions. Obviously you can finish the game much faster, but I really enjoyed the environment and took my time. Unlike GTA, and esp SR3, this is not a city-rampage style game (although you could do that, Tactical/SWAT DLC). It's harder to lose cops / stars when you are being chased, because its HongKong, and its crowded and you;re driving on the left side of the road. Ultimately, completing the main story was bitter-sweet. Thankfully, SteamSale for Shaolin, Nightmare, and SWAT DLCs, I can hopefully add on some more hours of play. Overall, Sleeping Dogs did an excellent job recreating HongKong, the bright vibrant atmosphere, and keeping me vested and engaged with the antagonist. The Graphics were Amazing (rainfall?! city night lights reflecting from my kick-ass car wax-job?!) Gameplay was very engaging and precise; it was like gangster Streetfighter, sorta. Don't Miss this Game!

You can throw a enemy into a giant oven and watch him burn, toss him into a phone booth and beat him with the phone until his face is all bloody, stick his head into a rooftop AC fan for a bloody explosion, or anything else. The story was also suprisingly good. Your boss and his wife are gunned down at their wedding, and you actually feel sad. Expand

Its a very strange game to score. The driving feels weaker, and the controls/camera can sometimes be a bit wanky, but I feel it deserves a 9 based on how much ive enjoyed playing it. Its definitely a game thats greater than the sum of its parts, and there are alot of parts. Driving, missions with lots of mini games for hacking, lock picking, bug calibration, cell phone triangulation. Foot and vehicle chases. Shoot-outs and lots of asskicking Kung-fu. Aswell as the great Hong Kong environments, the combat is very much its strong point and feels really satisfying. Im going to say it, the fighting is better than the GTA series by miles!

If you get the chance to grab this in the sales, i would suggest you do. I've really enjoyed my fortnight in Hong Kong for the price of a few pints.

Is it better than GTA IV.....Well maybe not. But GTA doesnt have bloody Kung-Fu and meat cleavers.

It still feels like a well-written video game all on it's own. This game also excited me because a good single-player experience with a decent script is very hard to come by, and it's why my must-play list isn't as long as other gamers (Bioshock Infinite and Dishonored are what I'm anticipating most). Many have complained of the sluggish camera and controls; I agree with these comments, to some extent and this is the only mark I have knocked off a perfect 10. The camera seems as though it is just a little too slow and 'sluggish' for a pc game of this genre; you want to be taking in your environment as you speed down the highway or slice through the waters of the surrounding seas... and, sadly, with the current means of camera-control, you cannot thoroughly enjoy these things. The controls, however, are almost impeccable - combat is extremely responsive and diverse, even without the use of melee weapons or firearms, and I believe the combat is one of the best I've seen in this genre.

The storyline is so good; no, really....it is so so sooooo much better than both GTA IV and Saints Row 3, albeit, a little short. You feel attached to many of the main characters; feeling what Wei feels. You hate who he hates, you care for his friends, you feel almost happy when you see an enemy get what they deserve. The only downside is that the story ends, leaving me wanting more!

The side missions are pretty diverse, allowing for racing, kidnapping, killing, stealing, and the occasional hacking. These give great rewards and really help to extend the play-time of the game. Overall, I highly recommend this game and to anyone "on the fence" as to whether this game is worth picking up (lack of advertising and hype really made this game fly under the radar), I say; buy it! It's incredible!

Combat is fun and fluid and even after several hours of gameplay hasn't gotten stale yet... The combos are hard to remember (Am I just old?) but that doesn't detract from the combat, it's still fun. There is lots of potential for more content in form of DLC and even more games for the series and I would likely purchase again. If you like open world style games like GTA and Saints Row then you'd definitely be happy with this game.

The core gameplay elements are excellent and the fighting feels refined and very fluid. Driving is very satisfying for an open world game and the amount of choice is good. This so far sounds perfect and mostly it is. But a thing that Sleeping Dogs didn't do was add anything new. The fighting is taken from Batman, driving almost from GT5 and slo-mo shooting from Max Payne. It only refines, but doesn't innovate. Its a shame to see where Square Enix have missed an opportunity for an eye-opener for the open world franchise, as it has been plagued with half decent releases such as Saints Row 3. But that's nearly enough moaning.

The game has a good storyline and it is very easy to get sucked in by the triad centered missions. Although the game doesn't really add new elements, it polishes the core elements of other games and chucks it into its engine. One possible new gameplay addition are the environment kills which are gory but evilly fun ways of ridding of baddies. The guns are easy to use and the vault slo-mo shooting is very intuitive. Just worth the £30 rrp but I would wait for it to be on sale. Overall a very enjoyable experience and probably better than GTA 4 at allowing you to play the criminal lifestyle.

I usually don’t buy AAA title the year they are released because the price is usually too high. But when Steam accidentally offered Sleeping Dogs at a 91% discount during their Christmas sale, I decided to go for it.

The game takes place in a fictional modern day Hong Kong with players assuming control of Wei Shen, an officer of the San Francisco Police Department, who had been seconded to the Hong Kong Police Force. Wei has been assigned by the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau to go undercover and infiltrate the Triad society called Sun On Yee and take them down. There are two subplots contained within the main storyline: the first is Wei’s personal struggle between completing his mission as a police officer, and having to commit crimes to prove his worth to the triad. The other subplot consists of completing missions set out by a triad lieutenant, such as killing triad members who are loyal to competing lieutenants. The island is divided into four fictional districts which are named after real areas.

Hong Kong is a fantastic backdrop for this game. It’s huge, but not too huge and you’ll soon start to recognize parts of the city and find your way around without using the GPS too much. The GPS works brilliantly, by the way. The city looks beautiful in the sunset, and if you’ve never been to Hong Kong yourself, I recommend that you drive to Victoria Peak in the game and have a look at the city in all its glory. The developers have made sure to build a digital version of Hong Kong that resembles the real thing. I’ve been there twice in real life, and recognize the Soho area and the escalators from Central. There is attention to detail everywhere; Soho is flooded with Gweilo; foreign devils.

While similar titles, like Grand Theft Auto and Saint’s Row, are focused on gun combat, Sleeping Dogs is mostly about personal melee and boot-in-face combat. You do get access to firearms now and then, but only to a single weapon at the time and you’ll usually not use the gun outside of a mission. When levelling up, you’ll get access to new marshal arts actions that can be used to take out your enemies in all kinds of imaginative ways. Trying to perform these new actions with the keyboard, however, feels really awkward. You should definitely play this game with a Xbox 360 controller or some other game pad. With a game pad, controlling Wei, both in combat and in a vehicle, feels so much smoother than with the keyboard. I’m guessing the analogue sticks help a lot.

There are very few things wrong with Sleeping Dogs. There are the occasional bug, though, like the heads of people sticking out of cars roofs and the camera some times have a hard time following Wei. Every now and then he disappears off screen completely, which can be a tad annoying in the middle of combat. At one point I also managed to crash Wei’s so that he was thrown out of the vehicle and got stuck inside a large cage there was no way he could get out of. The only solution was to cancel the current mission and start again.

But all in all, Sleeping Dogs is a great open world game. It plays great, it looks great (even on my three year old system on medium settings) and it sounds great (there’s a wide range of radio stations and some of the cars sound and handle absolutely beautifully). With the release of GTA V this year, it’s quite possible that Sleeping Dogs will be quickly forgotten, but that’s a faith it doesn’t deserve. It’s one of the best games of its genre.

Some little bugs, but besides that a pretty good game. Feels more realistic than GTA4. The driving is kind of bad imo but combat is really fun. Story wise I'd say its way better than GTA. All in all I got this game for like 4 bucks on steam and absolutely worth it. Great game.

One of the best sandbox games I have ever played, GTA is nothing compared to this. This game actually has a good story, good action, good vehicle play and loads of content! Highly recommended! 9/10!

The game-play is great. The environment is beautiful. Wei is a BOSS. Has a mixture of lots game types; Hand to Hand combat, gunfights, racing, gambling, hacking etc. But unfortunately a very sad face for the dodgy console port, it is basically impossible to play with keyboard and mouse.

    Great game!
Streets and voices in it are well designed.

Biggest falure:vehicle maneuver.Seems that the driving part was not tested sufficiently. When we want to just shift slightly for a better forward direction and are holding the backward button, the camera changes into a strange and useless side view, with the most important sraight forward or backward view blocked.
    Too much collectables.

Probably the easiest game i ever played which is really bad. The Third and last bad thing for me is the glitches and the bugs... i got to restart the game once, because i got stuck in a tree and i couldn't get out... I had to begin 3 missions behind. Anyhow im not done with the good things on this game, THE OPEN WORLD IS AMAZINGLY AWESOME, The Number of how many things you can do in the open world is HUGE, It's really hard to get everything in the game and explore all the world in my opinion, The Game has NOTHING stupid and not realistic in it, The Backstory is Amazing, the Mini Games on this game are the Mind Blowing and There is no game on earth of this type that is that good and realistic as this one, Grand Theft Auto was never that realistic the gameplay was NEVER that good, Saints row was always worse because of the huge number of non realistic things in saints row, and now the saints row IV RUINED everything... Anyways this game is awesome i also loved the gameplay and i recommend buying it! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As we know there are two types of games in the world. Ones that you stop playing because they are complete and then there are the ones that we should have stopped playing 4 hours ago because you have work in two hours. Sleeping dogs falls into the later category.

The game has issues for sure, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "gta clone" though. There are a lot of similarities like if you crash into something you come flying out of the windshield. What they shouldn't have copied are the crappy police.

Lets look at the mechanics behind the game.
In game I had to re learn the typical control structure. Space Bar to run rather than shift, Backspace in place of escape. These are little things but they are so damn annoying. Even in the pause menu you can use escape so why not in-game?
Driving can be a terrible idea, If you have a car I would suggest that over any vehicle. Motorbikes are....****. With a map that size at least make the driving appealing. Its cool you can press spacebar and w with a direction key to spin your car around but the driving, taking corners is very shonky.
Combat feels rather lazy. So far I have only played 3.9 hours but I have found I can counter anything. The only time I have died is when I walked in front of a bus while kicking some dudes ass.

    The story
I like the idea or concept, the story feels better than GTA IV's. Again I have only played 3.9 hours so I haven't gone to far into the story. But being a character that's obviously grown up with the people that are now running the city and the ways of how things are being done. Then mixing in that you are an under cover cop kinda leaves two option. You get found out or you betray the law. This is a small field to work with.

What I like about Sleeping Dogs are the possibilities, the missions, how the first few hours aren't clunky tutorials and I like how I can alt tab and come back in without it getting choppy, there is not fps problems like there are with GTA IV.

    Best game of 2012?
No, one of the good one but not the best

    My recommendation
Get it on the steam summer sale, It's worth a play through

Great game with interesting story and characters.
action is beautifully violent with great combat design.

Some people may have problems with controls in the beginning BUT nothing big enough to get in the way of the experience.

[In my personal opinion most of those who blame controls and say that they RUIN the game are product of a spoiled generation.]

Having downloaded the HD Texture skin for the game released by Square Enix really enjoyed it, I was really waiting for something outside the box with this game, I've grown tired of the GTA clones and i half got it.

Really deep storyline with great storytelling and great atmosphere of the city of Hong Kong and character development, i wished for more girlfriend interaction in the story but no such luck, it seems to me that the girls were put at the last time to satisfy the people hungry for some romance in the mists of all the grim undercover police drama that the game is.

Taking everything into consideration this game is a 9/10 for me.

The primary function of the game is the martial arts combat which is flawlessly designed and extremely addictive. It takes a lot from the Batman Arkham series, and hints at film legends such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
There is also a firearms element, which is also very good but does not fit in quite as well as the melee.
Cars and racing are so well designed that this element feels like a true core racing game, and the radio within each car which plays real hits is well received.
The setting, Hong Kong, is beautiful on the eye and feels alive, although I would say that it could be a little bigger and have more buildings to go into.
The story, which is crucial to any game, is very playable and engaging, albeit slightly repetitive at times. This leads me to my biggest gripe; the story length which seems too short for what is otherwise an extremely high quality game.

Truly worth owning for anyone who calls themselves a PC gamer.

Definitely one of my favourite open world games off all time. A storyline which keeps players guessing, lots of side-missions to complete, the majority of which are fun, and although the world is not as big as that of GTA V, it makes for some very heart-racing car chases. If this game were to be made for Online, I would have given it 10/10.

Of course like any other game this has it's flaws, but they aren't terrible in any way. There are no major bugs or glitches which is incredible considering the fact that it's an open world game. The parkour elements are fun and work great, the combat may not be as good as a Jackie Chan movie, but it's not bad either. It's fun and simple and works great. And to tell you the truth I have no idea how you would make fast kung-fu based combat without either making it way to hard or constantly having cuick time events and having the game to go slow-motion. I get very high frame rate with all max setting. gameplay is good excepting driving. driving seems over sensitive. too faster. thankfully, developers just patched new update this morning. I red Steam forum. many people seem positive on new patch. by the way, there is a big downside. HKship.exe file is in deep trouble. suddenly it is freezing, crash with no reason. I really urge developers must fix this biggest problem otherwise gamers will hate it. overall, it is a nice game even though I hated this kind of game before. nice work. Expand

Hard not to compare to GTA. I have played grand theft auto and was not impressed. The plot was not engaging and worst of all the driving was lame. I did enjoy Sleeping dogs much more though. It is nice change to play an Asian character in Hong Kong as opposed to another chisel-jaw marine/merc who gets sent on endless fetch missions with someone nattering in his ear the whole time. The city looks lived-in, the store-fronts have clever illusions to simulate being a 3-d space with actual inventory the civilians respond correctly to being bumped...or witnessing violence etc. Good voice acting and well paced. SD makes for an immersive world. The driving is one of the weak spots for the PC version. At low speeds the mouse-tracking is all over the place but once you get your view-angle correct for the vehicle and speed you are driving it is pretty fun to boot around. Unlike GTA I did actually care about the plot and the characters. GTA felt cartoonish and one-dimensional with a series of stupid unrelated missions to do. Sleeping feels like a movie-role that I landed and now get to play-out. I agree that the plot seems truncated but every game must make make cuts to it's grand-plans in order to make it's release date. This is unavoidable. Overall SD is a solid game. Expand

If you don't like the camera and controls plug in a Xbox 360 controller (for windows) and use that to play the game. The game does feel like a port and the controller eases the feel of the game to a traditional mouse + keyboard. Plus PC's graphics are 50x better then consoles and look beautiful.

All in all it's a worthy game, you just have to give it a chance and accept it for what it is, it's own game with it's own flaws and ideas. but it's far from a bad game. Infact I've loved it and it gets the thumbs up from me :)

I liked this game. Good graphic (for console port), unusual but comfortable controls, good story (but maybe too short and hasty to the ending). Problems lie in a lot of glitches, bugs, small inconveniences in gameplay (disappearing weapons after a sleep, savepoints linked to hideouts and so on).

Driving works well (and is almost a bit like Driver when you're trying to lose the cops) and combat is a steep learning curve, but ultimately a solid effort. Gunplay is a bit difficult at times, and takes a bit of getting used to, but still you can have some fairly fun gun battles. There's clearly a good storyline and sense of humour - like accidentally running someone over and watching a girl take pictures on her mobilephone. Side-missions are fun, not too sure about the races or the gambling, and the drug busts are a little bit repetitive, but do add extra reasons to go and explore. The game isn't perfect. I mean, they could have developed a larger map, gun fights needed some improvements, the camera switched wildly if you even touched your mouse while driving a vehicle.
But despite all this, the game always feels fun to play because of a good storyline and awesome missions. Those who love the open-world action genre should not miss it!

This is my favourite of the GTA-style sandbox games. The main reason is the very estute move of (almost) replicating the superb fighting mechanics from the recent Batman games. As a result, hand to hand combat is very satisfying. The departure from a US environment is also very refreshing.

The bad: like any other port disappointing in this regard with various crashes and bugs particularly for nVidia card users, the story (run-of-the-mill undercover cop story, BUT one which does offer a number of interesting moments), camera movement, missions can become somewhat tedious and repetitive at one point, car chases missions involve the same thing over and over again: shoot the tires of the pursuers or pursuees (if that is even) which spawn in throngs out of thin air in the middle of the road, nonexistent weapon management (yes I understand that the game focuses on hand-to-hand but a persistent handgun would have been great and only natural considering the character's line of work) , on ultra while driving at high speed the game seems to stutter slightly but without a drop in FPS which holds steady at around 50 (running it on an i7 3770k, GeForce GTX 670 OC, 16 Gb RAM) which is mildly annoying but not game-breaking. If you liked the GTA series or the Saints Row series, this game is for you (as there aren't all that many games made that way). Overall: The story doesn't compare to instant classics like "Mafia," neither are the vehicles as diverse as GTA. Both the length and the difficulty level of the game are somewhat of a disappointment. The only reason this game is scored that high is that there simply aren't many options when it comes to open world vehicle-reliant games; and, the game takes place in Hong Kong -- this lets players experience the culture and vibe of HK which I find to be fairly entertaining and somewhat educational. The last time I played a game that drew such a vivid theme was Red Dead Redemption.

The game does has some issues that most of these types of games have, that is, the driving can be clunky, especially on lower end PCs. There are random bugs/glitches and finding things can be downright annoying. But overall, the story and graphics are amazing, the chasing and fighting is really good. Some people are disappointed about the lack of shooting but it IS Hong Kong; guns are very much illegal for the average citizen, so guns would not be plentiful. Plus, physically punching, kicking people is more visceral and entertaining at times.

I would say check this game out, I would (arguably) say that it is not worth buying at full price (I got this game for 18.75$, 50% off and an amazon coupon code), but there is a sale on it on Steam right now.

TL; DR? its GTA in Hong Kong, it has fun fighting, the story and graphics are good, even with a few hiccups along the way, its short but has DLCs and most likely more to come.

The other draw back is gun combat is a bit clunky as well. There were a few bugs from time to time such as not buying food from a vendor despite pressing to do so but they were pretty minor and in some cases amusing and did not stop the missions from happening.
Happily the positives abound and the game is fun, there are various sub missions to do in addition to the main story line and it is a focused entertaining plot. For the O.C.D there are hidden statues and lock boxes to be found, as well as clothing. An experience system for Triad and Cop help give you new combat abilities but the plot is fairly linear but to be frank it is entertaining getting to it. Fast cars, street racing, back alley fist fights, cop missions and criminal heist missions and a sense of humour make this game an entertaining Hong Kong action theater. There's even Karaoke to do!

Nice PC port. Controls work well, and the high-resolution texture pack helps the game look pretty damn good. The freeflow combat, reminiscent of Arkham Asylum, combined with the KH cinema-inspired style of the game help to create a memorable experience. The only issues are probably the lack of end game content, as well as the complete lack of difficulty.

A very interesting game that will provide you lots of fun. It mixes amazing martial arts with very good gun fights, its intense and has a good solid story with very good missions. But not all is perfect.

The combat system is amazing, I never played something that felt so good, so simple and so engaging, hand to hand combat is awesome, gun fighting is in the same high quality standards

The combat system is amazing, I never played something that felt so good, so simple and so engaging, hand to hand combat is awesome, gun fighting is in the same high quality standards of the best 'open world' games around.
The AI isn't bad at all, probably better than in most games of the genre, but it lacks a choice in difficulty, after a while beating the NPC's becomes very easy but it never stops being fun.
The map is quite good, sometimes it feels like you are in Hong Kong for real, however, the map is quite barren. What I mean is, at start you get a lot of amazing missions but don't expect the 'open world' to be like that, most of the map is just streets, there's no chance for good parkour or anything like that, just in a few areas the map is evolved to that level.
Missions are very well made, but there's just too many car chases, and driving in this game feels like you are playing a 90's racing game.
The 'Open World' feature is a lie. This game is not even close to be an 'open world' game. It lacks everything:
-The map isn't good enough, you only get detailed areas where missions usually take place, most of the map is just streets.
-The activities outside the storyline missions/content is very low on quantity, sometimes on quality and definitely repetitive.
-The NPC spawning is horrible, one of the worst I've seen, for example, if the cops are after you, they won't spawn in the direction you are heading, but if you turn around for 1 second to shoot or look at what's going on, all of a sudden you have NPC cops instantly spawning where you were heading, all of a sudden you are surrounded and being shot at from all sides... just awful game design.
-There's no shops to buy guns or any type of weapon... seriously... you are playing as a triad criminal and you can't get guns unless you steal them from cops?

This is a great game, one of the best I ever played, but don't get fooled by the words 'open world', if you are looking for an 'open world' game, this is not the one you should buy. This game is just a very good criminal/action story that you play with a small city in the background and amazing martial arts mechanics. Since the developers claimed it to be an 'open world' game, they made a lot of publicity about it being so, I feel disappointed, and from a possible 9-10 score I will have to get down to 7-8, and since I had so much fun playing this game I will go with the 8.

Unlike the previous ‘True Crime’ games, where there was a strict depiction of the city maps, Sleeping Dogs does not portray Hong Kong, inch by inch. United Front Games has implemented GTA’s novelties in way that winks slyly at Rockstar. In essence, what the GTA series has accomplished, Sleeping Dogs has carried out better and more elegantly. A solid GTA clone that ticks all the boxes but forgets to add the magic ingredient of improvisation. [Oct 2012, p.77]

City action in an Asian style casts a fresh wind to the sandbox game genre, with attractive worlds full of details, great battle mechanics and cool free-run sections. [Sept 2012]
