    Does Back From Hell “redeem” the initial disappointing release? In my eyes, absolutely. Like a medieval sinner turned to a life of holy demon-slaying knighthood, it claws its way back into the light over a pile of steaming gore-matted corpses. And if that’s not metal, I don’t know what is.

    Slain is a fun retro platformer with a slick combat system, great visuals, and a killer soundtrack. While its difficulty feels unfair at times and the Castlevania-inspired levels and enemies may be a little too close to the source material for it to feel totally original, it’s still a blast to play.

    After a bumpy start, I started to have a lot of fun with Slain. Once you get into a groove, it's hard for anything to stop you. Generous amounts of metal, blood, and headbanging give this game a unique feel, one that is hard to give up. Slain: Back From Hell is well worth a try.

    What stands out to me in this case, is that between how terrible the initial release was, and how the folks at Wolf Brew had to literally crawl out of the abyss to turn Slain into a competent title. Slain: Back From Hell is truly metal in very sense of the word.

    Slain: Back form Hell is the game that has should been since the beginning. It is a great tribute to the gothic and heavy metal culture, and a very challenging game.

    It seems the first version of this game was awful, i don't know, but that the which one i'm playing at the moment is awsome. I'm really looking forward to a 2nd part or another game like this.

    PROS: responsive and smooth controls + varied game + different kind of fighting (different swords and magic, both max powered option) + challenging game + etc
    CONS: sometimes it can be very difficult but if you insist, you're patient and think about the combination of sword and magic (and their max powered) you'll finally beat    … Expand

It isn't perfect by any stretch, but the combat is now actually quite fun, the game feels much more balanced (you don't have to grind out battles against lesser enemies); the whole thing feels almost completely re-designed. Luckily the Castlevania aesthetic and metal soundtrack are still in tact. If this looked cool to you prior to the horrific (but well deserved) reviews, give it another chance.… Expand

    Pros.:
    - Simple metroidvania-like (platformer actually).
    - Some metal elements.

    Cons.:
    - Everything else. Including game mechanics.
