SILENT HILL f is nearly perfect, delivering a compelling story and haunting atmosphere. With incredible audio design, a fresh and immersive Japanese setting, enjoyable combat, and satisfying puzzles, it’s a must-play for long-time fans and newcomers.

Silent Hill f will probably be one of the more divisive Silent Hill titles, but it is a good game for people who are interested in the series to get a good taste of it and maybe get into the fog with us, especially before the remake for Silent Hill comes out.

I’ve had a lot of fun exploring Silent Hill F’s stunning town and story, and I am glad to say that this is by far my favorite Silent Hill game to date. After playing the Silent Hill 2 remake, I thought that would be the epitome of the series, but this new one is even better. It retains the aura and style of the series, while adding more combat to it, and exploring an entirely new location. It’s not a very long game, but it’s intense and visceral at times, not to mention profound and extremely immersive.

While the pace of combat struggles to feel sleek amidst the atmospheric story, macabre enemy designs, and a spine-chilling soundtrack more than make up for what it lacks.

Silent Hill f is an excellent next step for this accomplished horror series. Proving that the horrors of Silent Hill aren't and shouldn't be restricted to the iconic American mountain town.

Silent Hill f is a solid game that manages to be a Silent Hill game even though it's very different from its predecessors, with dynamics that work perfectly within themselves. Sorry, a solid Silent Hill game! Frankly, the first 4-5 hours didn't quite win me over, but what followed —the shocking scenes I can't even describe, the dark story that feels like a challenging puzzle, and the much more it offers in New Game+— has already secured a special place in my heart.

With a gripping and often disturbing story, a setting unlike anything seen before in the franchise, and gameplay that blends new ideas with a familiar framework, Silent Hill f shows that the series is not only back, but stronger than ever. While performance issues and a short runtime do impact the experience, they in no way diminish what is a triumphant return for one of the most important survival horror series ever.

Silent Hill f enjoys getting under your skin. It’s a game that gives you objectives like “go on ahead” and “escape.” Every jump that the game elicited from me was usually followed by a wide grin. I loved the unique challenges that combat posed as I made my way from puzzle to puzzle, and the story’s overarching mystery is one worthy of the Silent Hill name.

SILENT HILL f is a terrifying and terrific title. This harrowing tale of choice and consequence should thrill and properly disgust any fellow survival horror sicko.

Is Silent Hill f worthy of the name or just a cheap Konami cash grab? Only the ones who can separate the name from that town in our restless dreams, will be able to acknowledge NeoBards' extraordinary attempt to plunge the player in an authentic 1960's Japan Silent Hill experience, woven together by thought-provoking metaphors and brutal melee action. The only things holding Silent Hill f back are the occasional graphical mishaps and the obscurity of some puzzles. But if you manage to look past those indiscretions and are able to avoid constant comparison to previous namesakes, there's a beautiful but tragic Silent Hill experience to be had.

Silent Hill f does what the developers intended to do: Capture the soul and spirit of the first three Silent Hill games and put it into an unapologetically Japanese package. However, after playing the game, I walked away feeling like this was more like Forbidden Siren or Fatal Frame than a Silent Hill. The removal of the town itself is a big loss, but this game is one hell of a horror game that would have done really well even if it didn't have the Silent Hill brand attached to it.

The setting is gorgeous and eerie with the music only adding to that, the voice acting is excellent (I played the Japanese dub of the game), and the story is downright gripping. Every new story beat had me eager to theorize with myself and uncover as much as I could of this narrative unfolding in front of me. It truly is a “must play” of the survival horror genre and I wholeheartedly believe this marks the comeback of Konami as a powerhouse in gaming once more.

Silent Hill f is a true representative of its franchise. Abandoning its Western setting, the title embraces the Japanese horror tradition at its core, attempting to recapture what truly sets Silent Hill apart from other experiences within its genre. The combat may seem a bit limited at first, and the overall puzzle design lacks consistency, but the new thematic approach and the unquestionable success in creating an immersive and strangely inviting Ebisugaoka when it comes to exploration are a welcome shake-up to a stagnant formula. After all, the series spent so much time in Konami's fridge for a reason.

Times change, and with them games and their styling, and Silent Hill changes too – you'll either accept its transformation or reject it. But it still manages to be (un)pleasantly scary.

That said, the question of whether it really needed to carry the Silent Hill name remains open for debate; it could just as easily have stood on its own as a Japanese horror title in the vein of Fatal Frame.

The scenario and atmosphere are Silent Hill f's biggest merits and will draw you in without you even realizing it. The revamped combat system works well, without any major flaws, but the same couldn't be said about some vague puzzles and the limited inventory space that had us visit the Hokora Shrines frequently. Nevertheless, it leaves a positive impression as the series' return after so many years and makes us optimistic about its future.

In Silent Hill f the F stands for fantastic. This unique story takes a daring stance and presents a thrilling psychological horror adventure. Gameplay hits that traditional Silent Hill design language, while also supporting a fast, difficult and interesting combat system, with puzzles in the world that require real mind bending. With multiple endings to achieve, its relatively short runtime is perfectly pitched for multiple plays. A slightly rough-edged horror gem.

Silent Hill f absorbs many features of the series that deserve praise, particularly in its depiction of the protagonist’s moral decline. This is reflected in the first ending, which feels less like a search for redemption and more like burying a schoolgirl in a psychological coffin. It is conveyed through her transformation, the additional notes, and the appearance of the enemies. It’s a pity that, among all the Japanese mythology and metaphors, the town itself starts to feel like a quite forgotten character in this story.

Silent Hill f is depressing, never holding back as it puts Hinako through the wringer repeatedly. Its thoughtful narrative, full of moving parts and emotional depth, had me hooked. The suspense and tension so characteristic of J-Horror are tempered by Hinako’s combat skills. But maybe that’s the point. The true horror in this game comes not from the monstrous abominations attacking Hinako, but from the harrowing situations her society forces her and other women into.

Silent Hill f is an intense and immersive entry, where precise combat, polished art direction, and a gripping story meet an oppressive atmosphere. Only the puzzles, vague and frustrating at times, disrupt the flow, but the New Game Plus and multiple endings extend the adventure brilliantly.

Silent Hill f brings back the franchise in a faithful experience that has its own unique themes and ideas. It does suffer from some technical issues, and the combat could've been more polished, but it is an excellent comeback nonetheless.

While it may not satisfy those looking for more of a classic survival horror experience, I absolutely loved the heart-wrenching and vibrantly inventive journey that was Silent Hill f. Each finished playthrough beckoned me back into the gloom to start another, even though the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. Because I still had more questions, and Silent Hill f still had more answers. I'll be thinking about this one for a long time, and it may just become an instant horror classic.

Silent Hill F is certainly a diversion from the main series in a lot of (mostly welcome) ways, but it's still very much a Silent Hill game at heart. By focusing more on action – especially after a surprising twist halfway through – it risks alienating some survival horror fans by making combat the priority rather than the last resort, while some of its puzzles are too obtuse for their own good, but it's still an astoundingly beautiful game that horror fans really should experience regardless of its flaws.

So, is Silent Hill f a worthy representative of the cult saga? The answer is nuanced. Yes, certain elements remind us of what we love about Silent Hill: a chilling soundscape, memorable bosses, an oppressive atmosphere. But no, it's not the rebirth we were hoping for: the graphics are disappointing, the story lacks maturity, and, above all, the combat system weighs down the experience. I wouldn't say that Silent Hill f is a bad game. It contains interesting ideas, moments of grace, and proves that the franchise still has something to say. But it's not yet the big comeback that will put the first Silent Hill games back at the top of survival horror. In short, Silent Hill f is a step sideways. Not the revolution we were hoping for, but an attempt that will hopefully pave the way for a more ambitious future.
