Oct 3, 2024Ultimately, those who are familiar with the original Silent Hill 2 will constantly be surprised by this remake, and those who aren’t as familiar are geared up for a great (albeit heart-wrenching) time. All of the pivotal moments remain, but veterans will find that they’re in different orders or brand-new rooms now. There’s new dialogue to look out for, and plenty of new notes, memos, and Easter eggs to discover, especially in New Game Plus. These changes may seem odd at first to existing fans, but all-in-all, they allow the story to flow much more smoothly, or add to it altogether. Think of the remake as a continuation — or a new rendition — of the never-ending, looping purgatory that many theorize James is trapped in.

Oct 25, 2024Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 is a AAA masterpiece of psychological horror, that doesn't concede even an inch of the oppressiveness and bleakness of the original manifestation. A project that was met with much skepticism, critique and whining, triumphantly brings the series back from the slumber it has been in for the past 12 years and it is a fine example of how to make a modern take while keeping the genre's hallmarks intact.
-
Oct 30, 2024The developers have managed to preserve the atmosphere and mood of the iconic Silent Hill 2 while bringing it up to modern technical standards. Silent Hill 2 Remake is definitely one of the best games of the year.
-
Oct 17, 2024The bar for modern horror remakes is justifiably high. The expectations for a series that has not seen a worthy entry (in many fans' eyes) in at least two decades might be even higher. Silent Hill 2, somewhat unexpectedly, delivers on both. We've got great voice acting, writing that understands the assignment, and gameplay to mesh it all together.
-
Oct 24, 2024Silent Hill 2 Remake is the best horror game ever. Bloober Team has not only delighted us with its best game, but also with a must for fans of the genre. Its gameplay is perfectly balanced to be satisfying, accompanied to perfection by a fantastic puzzle system. In addition, it has one of the best soundtracks in the industry, as well as a graphic finish that easily makes it Top 3 of the generation at a visual level.
-
Oct 8, 2024The horror-filled streets of Silent Hill take us deep into the depths of brutality and reunite us with James' unfinished story.
-
Game World Navigator MagazineDec 20, 2024Despite being a little inexperienced, Bloober Team delivered a remake as great as Resident Evil 2 (2019). Long-time fans of Silent Hill won’t be disappointed, while newcomers will get to experience one of the best horror games ever in all its terrifying glory. [Issue#265, p.56]
-
Oct 30, 2024Bloober Team delivers a visually stunning and emotionally gripping experience with the Silent Hill 2 remake that honors the original. While it has minor performance issues and doesn’t always surpass its predecessor, it feels like a warm return to "our special place."
-
Oct 13, 2024Silent Hill 2 was shaping up to be a disappointment and somehow turned to be one of the best remakes I've ever played, this game is definitely here for fans of the original but most of all for new players to experience the iconic story of James Sunderland in search of his late wife.
-
Oct 13, 2024Silent Hill 2 Remake is a masterful modernization of a survival horror masterpiece. The depressing narrative and oppressive atmosphere combined with the haunting audio design creates an experience that is both nostalgic and refreshing. It's an uncomfortably striking, psychologically challenging experience and just like the original, its influence will be felt for decades.
-
Oct 11, 2024The masterpiece is back. A great story and dense atmosphere meet modern graphics. The remake of Silent Hill 2 is the best horror game of the year so far and can compete with the remake of Resident Evil 4 and Alan Wake 2. Great times for fans of horror.
-
Oct 8, 2024In this remake of the legendary survival horror game, Bloober Team have shown how to make a remake. Deserves a standing ovation.
-
Oct 7, 2024A scary good remake of a classic horror is chilling. A town immersed in the fog has terrifying surprises for you, which will haunt you. The game looks modern and at the same time retains the essence of the original.
-
Oct 3, 2024Despite a few technical and combat weaknesses, Silent Hill 2 Remake is a success that will delight nostalgic fans and newcomers alike. Bloober Team has modernized the game without betraying its spirit, reinforcing its oppressive atmosphere and adding some welcome new features. James Sunderland's poignant story, served up by universal and timeless themes, still resonates as strongly today as it did in 2001. This remake is a true love letter to fans of the original game, while offering a memorable experience for those discovering Silent Hill for the first time. Like the original, it's one of those games that will stay in people's hearts and minds.
-
Oct 3, 2024Silent Hill 2 is the best game Bloober Team has made. A faithful reimagining of the original, bringing it to the modern day without losing what made the original the best horror game ever, using modern game mechanics to improve where they could, and expanding on what was already an engrossing world. Without any shadow of a doubt, a resounding success, one that will likely come as a surprise to many.
-
Oct 15, 2024I fully support Konami's decision to entrust Bloober Team with the development of the Silent Hill 2 remake. Using the latest technology, they have faithfully recreated the haunting, fog-shrouded story, allowing both new and long-time players to experience and re-evaluate this masterpiece from over two decades ago through a modern lens.
-
Oct 4, 2024Silent Hill 2 Remake is an intense horror experience with a profound story and fantastic design, despite the technical glitches.
-
Oct 3, 2024Diving back into this Silent Hill 2 completely rebuilt by Konami is like returning to a childhood village dear to our hearts decades later, or coming across a fiery declaration written by a person with whom ties have been broken... everything is there as in memories, but everything is different too. James Sunderland is back, accompanied by his eternal demons. If our hero has doubts about the necessity of his coming to the heart of the cursed city, we no longer have any: this trying journey is a dream for fans, as much as it will be a nightmare for others. Within this striking story of which we are the Eros (and Thanatos), the infernal round trips to the confines of darkness - even more numerous than in 2001 - will leave tourists on the side of the road. Bloober Team has written a love letter primarily to Silent Hill 2 fans. A letter at least as powerful as the one addressed to survival horror fans 23 years earlier, written by Team Silent.
-
Oct 9, 2024Bloober Team haven’t made a game to replace the original so much as it’s made one that honors it, giving a uniquely and distressing tale a way to retain its power in a modern gaming landscape.
-
Oct 9, 2024The Silent Hill 2 remake was surprising. It’s surprising in the way that I’m already playing it over for a second time. It’s surprising in the way that I enjoyed what the game had to offer, not being the biggest Silent Hill 2 fan myself. (Silent Hill 4 will always be my favorite, even if it isn’t the best.) Maybe that distance is what has allowed me to appreciate it more. Though I highly doubt it. The Silent Hill 2 remake shows that Konami is just as capable as it’s competitors in breathing life into their classic horror games. And I earnestly hope that other Silent Hill games will be given this treatment, or that it’s success means a certainty of more new stories in this horrible haunted town in the future.
-
Oct 18, 2024Aside from some bland combat and performance concerns, Silent Hill 2 is a good remake that takes the original’s intriguing narrative and crams it with more survival-horror gameplay while upgrading the visuals to do justice to the fascinating setting.
-
Nov 21, 2024Silent Hill 2 Remake is a bit like Alan Wake 2 – also a very ambitious horror game with a lot of flaws. However, I give credit to Bloober Team: I think Bloober Team did their job better than Remedy Entertainment.
-
Oct 8, 2024Silent Hill 2's remake is a fun but flawed take on a flawless gem.
-
Oct 4, 2024The Silent Hill 2 remake is a solid, respectful reimagining of a horror classic. The sound design is perhaps even more spectacular here, but modern graphics clean up some of the grit and grime, while overextended exploration and frequent cutscenes take away from the original's claustrophobia and fear.
-
Oct 3, 2024The story and character models are something I can live with. Unless someone is a purist, then the game will certainly make them lose interest very quickly. In my opinion, however, the biggest sins of Silent Hill 2 are the extensive exploration, which eventually becomes tiresome, and the untapped potential of combat.

Oct 8, 2024And so, I have sometimes struggled to enjoy it in the same way as I enjoy written fiction with the same style of storytelling. The longer I spent in James' personal hellscape, the more I could accept it as the video game equivalent of Alisdair Gray's Lanark, but I also don't have the patience to analyse every detail within its 16 to 20-hour story, as some will. And ultimately, I can't help but feel underwhelmed by how much its sacred history has chained this remake down.
