    These reviews are insane. I love this game. It works well for me, and I use a Mac, which everyone knows isn't as good as a PC. I enjoy the strategy, leaders, randomness, victories, music, and almost everything. Problem is that it does crash at times and feels a bit worse than Civ V in certain ways. But it has improved for the most part and makes me happy.

The game is terrible at conveying information to the player, like when setting a city I was expecting to see the resource icons around the settler indicating how much research and money a tile would be worth if I settled there.

    This game, even now years later, still lacks the sort of obvious things that should have been there to start with like a production queue in cities as the most prominent example.

    This may be a good game, but it's not a good CIV game. Shame of Firaxis for forgetting what a Civ game is.

    It's an interesting game for noobies of strategy games like me, although to more seasoned players, the really stupid AI may concern them. The AI is probably what costs 2 points for this game, it is really that bad. But a fun game overall.

    Packed full of details to amuse the micromanager or the relaxed overseer. Whether you want to dig deep into your cities population workings, or use a 50,000 foot view to amass a huge army, this game has it all. The complexity is refreshing and the game looks and plays fantastically.

    One thing I really hate about those kinds of games is massive amount of DLCs or other patches so in reality if you want to experience everything what Civilization has to offer you need to pay a lot of money. For that big minus, but the game itself is great.

    - diplomatic relations themselves do not provide many options. TW series moves forward, here they stuck the same for YEARS. Your allies ALWAYS spy on you and even if you catch the spies keep doing it;
    - governors are useless, city states are less useful then in 5th;
    - AI, workers system should be upgraded for sure. Military engeneer to build railroads? Really?

    Overall: the game contains good ideas, BUT the series should boost their diplomatic side, improve workers, AI, maybe improve research that will contain alternatives that will affect you in a long term and make every discovery valuable.

My experience is different as I play exclusively against the A.I. I feel that the developers of Civilization haven't always kept the best features of past editions and that a number of additions are suspect. I have played Civilization starting with Civilization i. My biggest complaint is that the developers haven't improved the A.I. and merely allow it to cheat unmercilessly. I have progressed to the Emperor level of difficulty and with the A.I. controlling by the Civilizations and the barbarians, most games fail very early on. I would question the addition of any other features (like natural disasters) that the A. I. can control, because it it just one more tool for it to use to disadvantage the human player. Regardless of the "whistles and bells" that the developers add to the game, their failure to address the issue of improving the A.I. (so it doesn't have to cheat) is the biggest disappointment for me (besides the elimination of certain civilizations). My other complaint is that the developers will not sell you a complete game, but force you to purchase "expansion packages." I would rahther pay a bit more for the game than be forced to pay for numerous expansions. Expand

But, despite all its shortcomings, it gets a hold of you which is very difficult to get out of. It is just SO MUCH fun crafting your own story and imagining the history of your own world. That's right - your world. While there is no explicit story to Civ, every new game is a story - and you're both the one who tells it and the one who takes everything in. Before you know it, after finally overpowering the German defenses thanks to researching gunpowder, you look out the window and see the sunrise - just how is that possible when you went to grab some water at midnight a few turns back?

    Just as every installment in the series, VI brings a fundamental change and does not just reiterate what its ancestors offered. V got rid of the stack of doom and brought hex tiles - VI builds on that by adding districts to build on those hex tiles! Your cities now sprawl, mix, and merge, they don't just sit in there. Take advantage of the various bonuses each district, leader, or civilization have to offer, and build the best city there ever was!

    What is not so fun? Well, after you get the hang of it and start feeling confident beating the game on Prince - which is the standard difficulty, offering no bonuses to you or the AI - you start to challenge yourself by moving up the difficulty ladder. Unfortunately, the AI just does not change and the only difference is that the AI is offered starting bonuses, such as more settlers and warriors, which range from mild to outrageous at the highest difficulties. What this means is that your strategy doesn't really change - you just have to survive the initial onslaught and start snowballing. I would say once you start beating 100% of your Prince games, you're ready to beat Deity. Just take it one game at a time and you'll see. However - I wouldn't fault the devs here, Civ is a complex game and AI doesn't just happen.

    I would like for Firaxis to revisit the war frontlines as well. Sometimes, you just want your strategic resources and not the whole city associated with it. I think dynamic borders and frontlines would bring much depth.

    The DLCs are preferred but I don't feel they are strictly necessary as would be the case with Civ V. Look into mods, not only can they offer new civs or leaders, but can improve the UI and gameplay.

    Absolute recommend for Civ players, 4X game enthusiasts, alternate history nerds and worldbuilders, strategy game and board game fans. This is where it's at.

    Worst and last, barbarians. Someone can tell to me what are they in the real world ? Are they human ? i really dont understand the meaning of barbarians in a game called Civilization... I want to know who are these humans who have for only goal, for more than 6000 years, to ransack cities ? i can accept that simply concept in a game in 1991 (hey! i was only 13 at that time) but after all this time playing civ games, i was hopping for another gameplay loop, much more consistent than that. The fact that the option to disable them exist from the beginning of the series must prove that developers themselves notice that this feature is a bad one.

    Another thing that, at least for me, is completely unique with Civ VI is the fact that winning isn't fun - and what I mean by that is that it doesn't really matter. You don't care if you win or lose, because you know you could win every game if you just went for the science victory (which is just about the only reasonable way to win a game it seems). You don't play to win, you play just for the fun experience of expanding your territory and exploring the world.

While I rarely will consign a game of such magnitude with a mixed to negative review, this specific title has me hovering over the 4 score. The AI is frequently nonsensical with commonly ridiculous decisions that throw your game for loops often, which can similarly be enjoyable when juxtaposed with an option to not have a random attack placed on you. The animations are disappointingly ugly. The predecessor went for a look far more realistic to real world images, while these seem like random jpg shots assembled to vaguely recreate a Disney animated character's emotions. While I am nevertheless aware that this is far more of a personal grievance, its still something that should be addressed. I realize I haven't given this game much credit, but I will give it this, its entirely easy to sink 3 hours into this game, it has a classic Civ feel for the most part, and withholds re-playablilty for future games. I'm really of the mindset at the moment that in order to not stray away from the mobile and console releases of the game, they just dumbed down features for the PC edition, which, as such, does not present me with a very enjoyable game. It leaves features, interactions, and situations often half-baked and uninteresting. Which, in my opinion, is half of the game. Expand

    Civilization VI is an amazing strategy game, which everyone who like the genre absolutely try! The visuals are at this point really good but some improvements could be made with the next gen. The mechanics and updates are great and when you buy the dlc 's the content does'nt get boring after some time. overall:

    DISCLAIMER: This is the first and only CIV game I've played.
    CIV VI does good job to introduce basics new players to the series, although some systems like the diplomacy stay unclear. Also the AI diplomacy seem illogical. The game is still very addictive and it is the primary example of a 'one more turn' game. The gameplay is very fun and satisfying. Cool game for LAN party with friends.

    This game is the way they destruct a great series. Civ3 and Civ4 are history masterpieces, and Civ5 was a great great game, only a little more simplified/user friendly version of Civ 4 with less struttures but still be a great game where u have a great heat. In Civ 6 u don't have this. Game pace is boring, slow, and A.I. is broken, unexistent.

    I love the art design of the new navigation map. I just like playing god in this game and commanding forces. I spend way too much time on this game sometimes. Just one more turn. I do think the AI and the things you can do is a little worse than the previous one but still additive. I also have this on the PS4 and Switch.

    Civilization is one of my all-time favorite games, and the leap from the fifth to the sixth game is epic. It offers new mechanics, tons of stuff to do and build and a fresh new look over the older games. There is some new and relaxing music, more factions and overall, it is a huge improvement over the previous game.

    Civilization has always been a turned based game in which you can build, move, attack or improve buildings in your turn. Every faction does their move simultaneously and after that, a new round starts. You win the game by conquering all the capitals, achieve cultural victory, science victory or a religious victory. This means that you are not bound to one specific goal. If your military sucks for example, you can try to build as many museums, theaters and zoo’s as possible, to get victorious on tourism and culture. You can trade with other factions/people, build alliances, open your borders, make some shady deals, it is just great.

    You can play as many different world leaders from the days of old to the modern era. Alexander the Great, Saladin, Queen Victoria, and many more, they are all there. They all have their special bonusses and you should take advantage of them by building your empire accordingly. For example, Saladin is more focused on religion and trade and only in the starting eras, his military is strong. When the modern age arrives, you really struggle to achieve military successes. Every character has a little backstory that is historically accurate and fun to read.

    The game is meant to be played online against friends or other people but offers some scenarios and a skirmish mode for you to play solo. You can always play against the AI factions, which are really well done. The balance of the AI is great and if you want a challenge, you will surely get it.

    This installment in the series offer new mechanics like natural disasters, new ways of collecting resources from the map and a new system in which your era score determines if you are entering a golden age or a dark age. With a golden age, you prosper and thrive, with a dark age, you struggle to come around. You earn era score by discovering great inventions, doing research and achieve eureka moments. These new mechanics do require some DLC tough. I really liked the natural disaster mechanic, but sometimes, it got a little over the top. When you see your towns melt away by an active volcano, your harbor washed away by the twelfth million flood and see Darude with his sandstorm, raving over your farmlands, you know, they got no mercy on you.

    The graphics and animations are beautiful. The map is blooming with life and movement, and I really like that everything is just so colorful and detailed. Many times, I zoom in close on my empire to see all the different quarries, lumber mills and dams spin and turn.

    The sound effects and music are perfect. They are well designed for this game, and I think this is one of the better sound and music designs I have seen. The ambient music is really relaxing and when your units engage in combat, the shots and hits sound just great.

    Like usual, Civilization is a hard game. It takes strategy, practice and management to master this game and even then, factors like starting point, barbarians and aggression from other players or states weigh even heavier. However, the game does offer excellent tutorials and gives you a fair chance to learn it.

    Civilization VI is a game that I play to relax, with or without friends. Just taking my time, slowly building and developing my empire. I feel no stress, no time pressure, just pure joy and chill. It is one of the few games that I can always pick up and play, without it ever boring me. Maybe Civilization VII will be even better, I don’t know, but for now, this is just a masterpiece of a game that will always be one of my favorites.

    Definitely recommend this gem.

    The game clearly has its problems (extremely predictable AI, strange difficulty curve) but is nonetheless a ton of fun. The district mechanics are wonderful, warring is great (though a bit easy & too powerful) and the artstyle is satisfying. IMO the game really shines with the different civ/leader abilities which help at making every game unique.
