The world of Shining Resonance Refrain is a joy to explore and the option to go through it a second time with villains on your side adds a good reason to play through again.

Shining Resonance Refrain can enthrall the player with its rollercoaster story, despite some very clichéd characters. It has great combat and many good ideas, even if the whole game is a bit classic.

It’s not an awful game by any means, it’s just a fine JRPG, but with a predictable story and repeated backtracking, this is a game that is lacking any spark to be anything other than a local school orchestra rather than being the London symphony.

Shining Resonance Refrain manages to bury its many interesting ideas under repetitive gameplay and a dragged-on story.

The series was much better when Camelot Series had it. There were some good games, Souls, Tears, Exa, and a few others, but there's no depth to this Resonance. The plot was predictable from the first ten minutes, and the characters are shallow. The gameplay isn't even up to par with standard JRPG's.

SEGA needs a return to form. A double-check at the drawing board. The Shining series is great, and the western audience really enjoys The Shining series. But not this garbage.
