This new adventure game from Wadjet Eye is a small, retro-looking gem. Not so difficult to play (especially if you're a fan of the genre), it tells a great, captivating and deep story, set in a dramatic dystopia, that will stay in your heart for a long, long time.

Even though puzzles are a bit on the easy side, narration, world building and mature themes are top notch and make Shardlight a beautiful graphic adventure.

Post apocalyptic dread, a society on the brink of revolution and The Reaper Himself stalking the poisoned skies. Shardlight combines the eerie splendor of Primordia’s abandoned wasteland with a poignant political narrative. Easily one of Wadjet Eye’s finest releases.

Shardlight is another excellent point-and-click adventure game from the small but fiercely dedicated and skilled bunch at Wadjet Eye Games.

Shardlight delivers a great old-school adventure, with a great pace and a very interesting take on some topics usually hard to deal with.

It's really a pleasant surprise: a game that will keep you busy with interesting challenges, and delivers some memorable storytelling.

In many ways Shardlight is a typical WadjetEye adventure game - low-res graphics, common sense puzzle solutions, wildly imaginative, well written and hugely entertaining.

A traditional point & click adventure without the cliches and problems of the genre. The ending feels rushed and the game is overall slightly too easy, but otherwise Shardlight is a treat. [May 2016]

Offering a stylistically refreshing approach to a post nuclear world, Shardlight is a pixelated journey through the human darkness.

Set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world, Shardlight is another great point & click adventure game from Wadjet Eye that might not have the greatest graphics, but tells a grounded story of scary, but possible future of mankind.

It’s not all perfect — some of the dialogue is a little clunky and not all of the puzzles are super exciting — but it’s a solid game that explores some new ground.

An interesting adventure, but too easy and simple. Rather than making us feel like Poirot, it reminds us why the genre has lost its former glory days to lead to more comfortable adventures: we had to use our little gray cells.

Shardlight manages to build its quirky post-apocalyptic world into something that will leave a lasting impression, though the same can’t be said for the story it tells.

  1. A rushed ending is really the game’s only let-down. A larger conspiracy, or more surprising reveal, might have given it a heftier punch. And it certainly needed a few more puzzles in the later stages, a bit more to do. But these are minor niggles in a really splendid adventure game of the sort we see too rarely. Grown up, well written, carefully paced, and genuinely interesting to explore.

Though the game may have been a little too easy and the story overall was lacking, the premises and setting were interesting enough to keep me entertained for 8 hours of gameplay. Pretty recommendable. Full Review »
