With an intricately crafted world, innovative and engaging battle system, and delightful array of scenery and music, Shadows of Adam is a splendid and true tribute to the SNES JRPG. The bugs one might encounter in beta versions are overshadowed by pure awe and captivation—a relentless desire to play more and more.

Takes the very best aspects of the genre, cuts out most of the tedium and delivers an exciting, stirring and compelling trip through memory lane.

Shadows of Adam does an admirable job of choosing what to excavate from games of yore. The result is a beautiful trip to yesterday, one that doesn’t waste time getting there. Shadows of Adam is a delightful retro experience.

Shadows of Adam is a worthwhile romp through classic JRPG nostalgia. Fans of the genre will appreciate the '80s and '90s callbacks and expansive world. At the same time, newcomers to the genre should find the title accessible, especially with its easier battles and exclusion of random encounters. While it might not display the same creativity of top-of-the-line JRPGs like Final Fantasy or Persona, Shadows of Adam executes its ideas well, and more importantly, is simply fun to play.

Shadows of Adam is clearly inspired by the classics but falls short of being a classic itself. The lovely gameplay, with its exceptional balance and enjoyable exploration, kept me engaged, despite the flaccid story and characters.

The game is a fantastic love letter to the genre and offers gamers a trip down memory lane. What will surprise you, though, is how it’s so much more than a cash-grab throwback to a bygone era.

it does a lot right, but it does not break the classic mould enough to make it feel like a true new classic in its own right.

For JRPG fans, Shadows of Adam is comfort food. It’s simple, to the point, and does a great job of distilling what made many of us connect with the genre in the first place. The story is not particularly compelling and it may be a bit bland at times, but its firm roots in nostalgia create a pleasant experience that I do not regret playing.

I can go back and play the game non-stop and have fun every time no matter what. I already consider this one a modern classic and that's saying something (no pun intended). What are you waiting for? If you like games like Chrono Trigger as well as Turn Based Strategy games, give this one a go. It won't disappoint. Highly recommend this game. Full Review »

I'm a Kickstarter backer and was VERY reluctant to back this after being burned in the past (I'm looking at you Soul Saga...).

The devs ran a very professional campaign and kept all of their promises, with the exception of the 'Players Guide' I paid for. They shared screenshots of the guide, so I am excited they are working on it, just disappointed it got delayed :(.

Regarding the game: It's a solid jRPG with a stellar battle system. Definitely suggest you get it!
