With so many competing FPS games on the market, Red Mercury falls sadly below par..."Splinter Cell" meets "Serious Sam." Not too bad. Not very good. [Dec 2004, p.90]
-
Great for old-school action fans. Repetitive and dull for everyone else.
-
One of the few shining edges Shadow Ops has is in the audio department. Taking full advantage of the now widely used THX sound scheme, the game convincingly places you in an aural war zone.
-
There is nothing in Shadow Ops that will spoil the fun, I think it is an excellent game. If you like a challenge with objectives to achieve, rather than just running around killing everything that moves, give Shadow Ops Red Mercury a go.
-
Yes, it has some glaring AI problems, some repetitive and overly simplistic gameplay aspects. And yeah, one of the final cut-scenes, where our hero lands on a speeding train, is about as PlayStation One graphics as it gets.
-
Stunted gameplay and lackluster story, paired with some good excitement, and AI that can only be described as dumber than a doorknob doesn’t make for a good combination, but there’s been far worse in the history of First Person Shooters.
-
Shadow Ops is a rather bland, generic FPS that – aside from some good sound and all-round high production values – offers absolutely nothing in the way of originality.
-
If you’re looking for a decent shooter you’ve come to the right place. Atari and Zombie could have done much better given the promise seen in the first few levels, but the poor level design and weak AI kill the game before it can truly get off the ground.
-
It's basic, it's clichéd, it's blokey... oh, and it's expensive and short, but Shadow Ops: Red Mercury is still a hoot. If you're after a brainless gun-fest with plenty of blowing-up, give it a few months and see if you can pick it up on the cheap. [PC Zone]
-
The game initially seems to offer everything you'd want out of an action-packed military-themed shooter. However, online multiplayer features are of little value when the action itself isn't good.
-
It’s just a 12 to 14 hour example of untapped potential and a lot of things we’ve seen before.
-
Computer Gaming WorldJust so very average. It does nothing spectacular, nor does it do anything truly grievous. [Holiday 2004, p.96]
-
games(TM)An average single-player game with competent but not brilliant multiplayer modes tacked onto the side. [Aug 2004, p.106]
-
Computer Games MagazineJust another military shooter swimming in a sea of camoflauge. [Dec 2004, p.83]
-
Just a first-person shooter with all the markings of mediocrity. It's got linear levels, an unimpressive arsenal, and simplistic shooter gameplay for both the single-player and multiplayer games.
-
PC GamerThere's nothing here gameplay-wise that's new or original, or even competitive, given the season...The lag in online bouts is atrocious. [Holiday 2004, p.34]

DiatrexV.Jul 29, 2006Shadow ops is an ok game but it could have been much better, like the saving game system. The story needs more structure and its really scripted.
