When you get down to it, Conquest feels more like a cousin to the series than a true follow-up. It certainly leans towards the traditional side of the genre with more of an emphasis on battle than on construction and micromanagement.
-
The gameplay is extremely basic and somewhat boring. Build up an army, go fight, go to the next level. And so on.
-
If you are hoping for an updated version of the exceptional Seven Kingdoms gameplay in Seven Kingdoms: Conquest , you will be seriously disappointed.
-
PC FormatSo bog-standard it's positively peaty, and more buggy than a pram warehouse. [July 2008, p.113]
-
All these issues combined are ultimately why Seven Kingdoms: Conquest gives off the feeling of a game that was being pulled in too many directions at once during development.
-
PC GamerDated graphics, poor AI, buggy gameplay, cumbersome controls, and uninspired design choices make playing Conquest an exasperating experience. [July 2008, p.64]
-
It’s simply unacceptable for a retail game to have a major component of gameplay be as broken as Seven Kingdoms’ pathfinding and unit AI.
-
Seven Kingdoms: Conquest fails to do anything right. Balance problems, technical issues, pace, story, graphics…I can go on. It’s not worth playing.
-
Believe me, Seven Kingdoms Conquest is a wreck you want to avoid.
-
This is an even worse game than Empire Earth 3 for the simple fact that the design shows promise, but it's utterly undermined by the horrible execution.
-
Seven Kingdoms: Conquest is a bad RTS game. There are only a few elements in the game that are worth while. Mainly the game just feels like an old and boring RTS. Thats why we can't crown this game to the list of best seven RTS games.
-
Seven Kingdoms: Conquest is indistinguishable from any other bad strategy game you've played over the past ten years.
-
A disaster in just about every imaginable fashion. A few patches may yet round it into some kind of playable shape, but right now this is simply another cookie-cutter RTS loaded with serious bugs and unfulfilled potential.
-
Conquest is frustrating because a true update to the original series with modern design elements and sharp graphics would be a welcome sight for any real-time strategy fan. To drop this game on the public is a low blow to anyone who remembers the old game.
