    Serious Sam Double D is a bloody mess! Exactly how i like it :). This small game is full packed with guns, ridiculous enemies...and that's it. Simply Serious Sam in 2d side-scroller. Too bad there are no multiplayer option (classic coop for two players). Overall - it's a good cheap game not only for Serious Sam fans.

    This game is quite simply Contra/Metal Slug on drugs. You can stack guns on top of each other for a maximum of 6, and combine that with the craziest enemies you've ever seen. You have Lava monsters jumping on Pogo Sticks, and stacks of Pancakes with Trumpets and forks for legs....and anything else you haven't imagined. It's quite simply...fun. Lots of enemies, killing all around, andThis game is quite simply Contra/Metal Slug on drugs.     Games have always been about one thing: Being fun. That's exactly what this game is. The graphics aren't exactly impressive, but when you consider the insane amounts of fun...who cares? The game is a BLAST, quite literally. It's fun making combinations of guns to mow down your enemies, and really is just what Serious Sam has always been about, hordes of enemies, and plain old fashioned fun slaughtering all of them. That's exactly what you get here. It's not trying to be the new big thing, it's trying to be what games have forgotten about being...fun.    … Expand

    You get what you spect, a crazy KILL EVERYTHING ON SIGHT multiple gun shooter in 2D. Remembers me the old school days playing Metal Slug and Contra, but with a modern fancy style. This game is indeed a very great way to enjoy time with screens like "KILL KILL KILL!"

    Serious Sam Double D surprised me by being a low price indie platformer with the same sense of humor and very similar game design as the Serious Sam games. That means you should expect tons and tons of monsters, plenty of funny secrets, powerups, traps and straight-forward adrenaline-filled action! What SSDD brings to the table are unique, hand-drawn 2D graphics, platformer gameplay andSerious Sam Double D surprised me by being a low price indie platformer with the same sense of humor and very similar game design as the Serious Sam games. That means you should expect tons and tons of monsters, plenty of funny secrets, powerups, traps and straight-forward adrenaline-filled action! What SSDD brings to the table are unique, hand-drawn 2D graphics, platformer gameplay and the fun, but somewhat strategic, gun-stacking feature (equip up to 5 weapons at once). While a little lackluster in the epic battles notorious to the Serious Sam games, and with some minor interface issues such as the camera making surrounding areas difficult to see, and the cursor hard to keep track, SSDD is still a great game recommended to indie action fans or to those who simply want to take a load off.… Expand

    Easily the most fun I have had for $1.99 on Steam! This wonderful shoot'em up side-scroller is easily the best of the best Indie 2D shooter I have played on PC. It's pure fun and crazy. No story here just plain old craziness with guns. The Gunstacker is easily the most hillarious and innovative firearm madness invented since Contra's Spreadshot. Lots of crazy enemies in crazy quantitiesEasily the most fun I have had for $1.99 on Steam! This wonderful shoot'em up side-scroller is easily the best of the best Indie 2D shooter I have played on PC. It's pure fun and crazy. No story here just plain old craziness with guns. The Gunstacker is easily the most hillarious and innovative firearm madness invented since Contra's Spreadshot. Lots of crazy enemies in crazy quantities running around and just enjoying the explosions. Highly recommended! Please don't pirate this game and support indie development!     I would give it around 65/100. Well, it is a little too obnoxious, but the humor is ok it gets to you after a while. The game is fun playing a decent side-scroller, and the ability to stack weapons into a massive fire-power-tool is pretty nice. However, it gets too hard too fast (i mean it's a 2D shooter you really need to balance such games in order for them to be enjoyable).I would give it around 65/100. Also, not a lot on the innovation side: developers, it does not take a lot of time and resources to include a level-up system for the main character, and it pays off when the final product comes out. Why not make Sam level up add speed, damage to the weapons, jump-height, add a small store at the end of each level to buy some new gear? Why not? With these features i would play the game much longer than 1.5 hours!… Expand

    There's nothing particularly good or bad about Double D. It offers crazy 2D shooter carnage while bringing absolutely nothing new to the plate. It's great if you're looking for a throwback to the old days. But if you're looking for something new and fresh, you'd best look elsewhere.

    This game is short but alot of fun... crazy weapons, enemies and sayings... good singleplayer and 2 player couch-coop is even more fun

    Contra clone with a "Serious Sam" skin. The gunstacker leads to really creative loadouts and I liked being able to keep presets of stacks on hotkeys. Tons of secrets and multiple paths through large levels make this one of the best contra clones I've played. However, lacking in multiplayer (what side scroller shooter doesn't have multiplayer?) is a huge letdown for me and leaves this gameContra clone with a "Serious Sam" skin. Perpetual growler "Serious" Sam Stone once again goes rip-roaring through time, slaughtering Mental's alien hordes en-masse, once more in Egypt but also in the Jurassic and to Pompeii, circa the infamous Vesuvius eruption. Netricsa, the snarky AI inAre you Serious enough? Serious Sam: Double D successfully translates Croteam's signature chaotic FPS action into a two-dimensional format. The game has very tight controls for a platformer and mouse aiming in the vein of Abuse and other 2d PC shooters. Double D's signature gimmick is a nifty item known as a "gun stacker". Gather enough of them and you can stack any six weapons on top of one another and fire them all at once. It's exactly as ridiculous as it sounds, and twice as entertaining. As Sam himself says, "double your gun, double your fun", so why not keep going? There are four copies of each weapon to be found in the game, including series staples such as the repeating laser cannon, chainsaw and rocket launcher, as well as a newcomer in the flamethrower. Each can also be upgraded into one of four specialist types, such as adding a prism to the laser that splits its beam into three. Sam also can use a redeployable jump pad that sticks to virtually any surface. Combining this with a particular upgrade to the basic machine pistol that allows Sam to glide is necessary to access many secret areas. Series regular enemies appear, including gnaars, biomechanoids and of course, the headless kamikazes, but several new, even more ridiculous enemies appear, including animate stacks of carnivorous pancakes, monkeys with axes for hands and jet thrusters for feet, and lava men riding pogo sticks. I can't make this ♥♥♥♥ up. Overall the game's difficulty is significantly lower then its parent series, possibly due to the ability to wield six guns at once, but its no less a zany and entertaining experience. This "Double Extra Large" version features 2 player coop local or online. In addition to the campaign, several standalone challenge levels are available, as are versus arenas, but these must first be unlocked in the campaign. If you love the Serious Sam games as much as I do, then you'll love Double D, especially for the price.… Expand

    Pretty short Story (about 3 hours) + some additional Modes.
    Basically the Game is fun and full of Action, but after about 5 Hours you got definitely enough from this Game.
    I received this Game from an a Bundle and I'm not sure if i would pay for it separately, even like i said, it was funny for a short time.

    Serious Sam Double D (XXL) is a fun little game and parody to give you a break from all the remasters and remakes of the original games. It’s a short side scrolling indie game, taking place after the events of the First Encounter and Second encounter. It is one of the many “bonus games” like Serious Sam: The Random Encounter and Serious Sam Classics: Revolution.

    Story wise, the game has not much to offer. It is the same story as the other games, fight the hordes of Mental and save the universe. Classic stuff.

    In terms of graphics, the original version did not offer anything special. The XXL version of the game polished the graphics and effects somewhat but for a game this simple, it is not that big of a deal.

    The sounds and music are quite nice. They use battle music from the original games, as well as some new tracks. It gives the game its Serious Sam atmosphere.

    I like the gun stacking mechanic, it makes the game fun and easier when progressing. The search for all the weapons keeps the game going. The secrets in the game are fun and have that distinct Croteam feeling.

    A few things I do not like about Serious Sam Double D (XXL) is the player stat screen. For the unlocking of the golden guns, you need to deal a certain amount of damage with each weapon. To check your progress, you go to the player stats in the menu. But when there, it scrolls every piece of information without you being able to pause it or scroll back.

    Also, the menus are a little bit slow and confusing sometimes. Lastly, the textboxes in the beginning of a level are way to slow. You can set the game speed to Sonic the Hedgehog standards, but the textboxes are still slow as a snail.

    The Challenges in the game are tough and need a few tries but are fun. The only downside is that the game does not offer anything for completing them, other then an achievement ultimately.

    So, in short, fun diversion with plenty of content for what it is. I enjoyed it.    … Expand

    While Double D's one-tone puerility won't appeal to everyone, the game does offer a refreshingly in-your-face scale of violence that will endear it to long-term Serious Sam fans. If you fancy a 2D action fix to help you wile away the hours until Serious Sam 3 arrives, then look no further.
