"SAW 1.5" would fit this better, because it ties in some unsolved mysteries within the first and third film. You are able to discover what happens to Tapp, and those around him. Many of the traps are reintroduced from the films. The voice acting earns a solid average, it is not bad but it's not good either. SAW is about puzzles, and puzzles you will have! SAW's combat system is broken completly, but do not worry, it is easy to master! All-in-all SAW is a below average game for the regular gamer due to some bugs, controls and story. Die hard SAW fans (like myself) will be happy to know that it keeps true to it's theme and will not dissapoint. Expand

This is a very average game... the gameplay is average, sound is average, puzzles are average, story too. This is a disappointment, but it's not a surprise... games based on movies are mostly like this. Pickens condemns!

I enjoy a good horror film every now and then and the Saw films have been thoroughly entertaining. The game captivates the movies very accurately and puts you squarely in a mental match against Jigsaw. It plays like an action puzzler. The gameplay isn't all that great and some of the unlock puzzles aren't intuitive, but it's decent enough that it doesn't detract from the game, plus the story keeps it engaging as you battle to survive. Note that the game achievement are glitched so some are easier to get and some are nearly impossible to get. All-in-all I liked it. Some parts were frustrating, but there's a good 9-10 hour game here. Expand

I'll never get why so much fuss about this movie...I didn't really enjoy it....so just because I don't want to be that harsh I will give it a 5...I have no much more to say about Saw...the sense of horror after all is very personal...

I've just finished Saw and that was shortly after reaching a point where I COULDN'T WAIT to finish it already. And it wasn't in a good way.

OK So, Saw wasn't all that bad. Some of its features are a nice throwback to the days of the classic survival horror games (e.g. Silent Hill), did you like rummaging through cabinets for items? Looking desperately for health itemsweapons? Walking

OK So, Saw wasn't all that bad. Some of its features are a nice throwback to the days of the classic survival horror games (e.g. Silent Hill), did you like rummaging through cabinets for items? Looking desperately for health itemsweapons? Walking through countless of lockedunlocked doors to progress? This game has it, and is seldom making a good use of the survival horror elements.

It would mostly not manage to be nearly as fun as the aforementioned titles did, unfortunately.

But let's get back to the beginning.

Being a fan of the Saw series (and having watched the seven of them lately), I was really curious about the video game. How can anyone capture the essence of the movies in a video game?
I figured that was a good question with a bizarre, although anticipated answer. Since no one can really torture you (as with deadly traps, and not as with playing not-so-good video games and making you spend your time&money on them), the procedure would usually sound like 'Match the corresponding photos or this man dies ...' 'Finish that pipes-puzzle-thingy or you die of toxic gas....' 'Solve puzzle X or something Y will happen', basically. Which is a tiny bit funny but as least it works, much better than the COMBAT.

Now, the combat was the weakest point of this game, with a primitive combat system which is barely responsive to your key strokes, you would pray to never encounter a combat in this game (which you may luckily avoid at many times in some creative ways).

Now that I've finished with the impulsive stuff let's talk some business, what Saw DOES deliver well?
Since I've said it wasn't all that bad, there's got to be some good in it. And there is.
Saw manages to capture the atmosphere well, the dark asylum environment made me uneasy at many times and there were some tense moments. The various traps present throughout the game were partially inspired by the movies but there were also some creative stuff here and there.
The game won't let you save on your own but fortunately has plenty of auto-save checkpoints which were mostly put there thoughtfully just at the right moments, when something 'bad' might make you die and start over from your last checkpoint. Which is not so obvious, because many video games don't even get that right. Luckily, Saw did, or otherwise I'd probably not be able to finish it at all due to so much frustration.
There were also some nice puzzle moments, and some puzzles were actually fun.
As you progress through the game, though, you'd see that over time it has less and less to offer and you start do again and again things you had already done. Deja vu anyone?

Well yes. Sorry to say that even the fun and good aspects of the game get really tiring and REPETITIVE over time. You'd wander through the asylum feeling you're going through some very similar corridors, over and over again, fighting similar enemies, solving similar puzzles, going through similar scenarios with each 'victim' you'd have to save throughout the story, and really, at some point it just loses its value.

Add it to a mediocre story which doesn't really add up that much to the franchise, mediocre game mechanics, HORRIBLE combat system, and you get a fairly tiring, long, torturous game.

And maybe that was actually the whole idea in creating a Saw game? who knows.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came to this game after binge watching the series, and personally, I went in with high hopes. The first few "chapters" (Each Chapter is centered around saving a new person from a new trap.), were really good. I was enjoying it. They added a new puzzle every so often to make things interesting, but after a while, that stopped. It became the same exact few puzzles over and over again. They were just slightly more difficult, or put on a tough timer. The only time you got a unique puzzle was every odd numbered chapter, and the final one. The rest were just a bunch of one of the other few puzzles. I personally wish there was a way to put the more unique puzzles into the game as well somehow, but I don't know how they'd do that. But it did end up making the game drag on way too long, because there were way too many people you had to save. If they just skipped over the even numbers, and just kept the odd ones, I feel like I would have enjoyed the game a lot more. By Chapter 5, I was already begging for the game to just end.

And then there's the combat system. The only weapon that you ever need to worry about in this game is your fists. Your fists don't break, your fists aren't slow, and your fists do some decent damage. Your fists also stun the enemy somewhat with each hit. The revolver is also a useful weapon, the only one that's actually worth it. It one shots most enemies, and two shots the others, and due to how they're spaced out, by the time you wrap up using one, another will be somewhere behind a gear puzzle. This makes combat extremely trivial by the time Melissa Sing comes around in Chapter 3. Just drop it and use your fists whenever you have to break a wall, then pick it back up, and carry on.

The final chapter is honestly a little pathetic. It's more of the same, and they give you a boss fight with the Pighead that's been chasing you throughout the game. The best part? You can kill them as soon as they pop in, by just punching them to death. They can't do anything about it. And then you can leave the area, get introduced to the arena you're supposed to fight them in, and just go through the door you need to go through. The final gauntlet is also really easy, and you get ten minutes for each segment, which is honestly more than enough time than you'll ever need unless you pick at your ass for most of it. After everything you've been through, it's an absolute breeze, and just serves to prolong the already too long game.

The only ending that I feel is actually good is the one you aren't even supposed to take. Because it has the usual SAW twist, and has some gameplay tied to it. The one you're supposed to take, the one that makes the sequel work, is just a few seconds of Tapp walking around and shooting himself. That's it. That's the ending. Absolute garbage.

I will say that even though this game has a lot of problems with it, I still was somewhat amused by the end of it, as much as I wanted it to stop. I enjoyed how they went back to the films and started to pull characters from there, like Obi, or Jeff. I didn't even know the guy's name was Jeff until now. Though, I will say that Oswald McGillicutty is probably the best character in the game besides for the main two leads. You deal with him in Chapter 4, and he serves as literally the only person that Tapp saves that doesn't tell him how much he sucks. He's actually grateful, realizes he was wrong about Tapp, and tries to help him out, only to die. Therefore, he's literally the only character that isn't just a copy and paste. The rest of them follow the same exact actions. Get saved, **** tell Tapp he sucks, and leave. Some of them tag along for a small while, but it shortly ends up with separation, which honestly blows, because they definitely could have done something with it, like cooperation puzzles. That would have added some spice. They could have done at least one of those before they were separated.

While it's a repetitive game, and suffers from that, it's still maybe something worth checking out if you like the movies. If you don't like the movies, I'd personally steer clear and play a different game, because this one certainly won't be for you, since a lot of the good quality about the game comes from the references to previous characters and events, and Oswald McGillicutty.

But this game just didn't do that...You start the game holding a knife in your hand and cut someones eye and you say ''Oh this gamee is a literal Saw game!'' but then you see a puzzle. Then another puzzle , theen another puzzle , then anothere puzzle. In conclusion , this game sucks. Expand
