So fu*ing awesome! This game is hilarious, fun and action packed. If you liked SR the 3rd you will love SR4. Aside the mighty superpowers, the story is so enjoyable! Funny jokes about sci-fi movies and games like Mass Effect, The Matrix and even Demolition Man (just look near your spaceship toilet, you'll find 3 shells) are everywhere!

Saints Row is a remarkable game of Deep Silver.
The game is a great game creators did an amazing job on the medal. Well continued series developed by THQ. This game has great potential. Great August in her game. Soon this game should be a hit and achieved the expected number of units sold. Recommend gre all players, who enjoyed a series of Saints Row.

The only reason I give this a 10 is because I think of it as a different game. Take away the Saints Row title and just call it.....The Matrix...and you're neo. That's it.

Even though the changes from SR3 are minimal and some features have been left out, it's still an awesome game and, in my opinion, one of the maddest games of the generation.

It's thoroughly over the top and all-out fun. Yes, it's all "in the Matrix" this time around and yes, you will feel like Neo, but that's part of the charm. You don't have to explain something like a "Dub-Step Gun", but you'll be laughing the whole time you use it to level a city block. The voice-acting is top notch as always and the characters come across as lively and real. GraphicsIt's thoroughly over the top and all-out fun. As you work to destabilize your personal digital hell, you'll see more messed up game models, more pixelization effects and more unstable textures on walls. Complaints-wise is the game feels a bit rough at times. The kind of roughness that usually goes away after a patch or two. Dialogs sometime stop abruptly (not really mid-sentence, but leaving you wondering if there should have been more) and the plot jumps around a bit without smooth cinematic transition. I've also had the occasional crash. Gameplay wise, I wish they didn't give you the super running and jumping as early as they do since it totally makes the vehicular gameplay a moot point; but at least it's still an option. Also it would be nice to be able to toggle some abilities on or off like the Running Tornado which can sometimes be more trouble than it's worth. Overall though, it's a LOT of content and a LOT of fun. I loved SR3 and I love SR4 just as much. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed murderbrawling through the former. Expand

The Game is mad fun, and dont let them tell you otherwise. The new powers mechanics is well integrated, Co-Op is back, stable and working while the VA´s and the Antagonist do a perfect Job here.
It´s a great and enjoyable game. A lot of sarcastic quotes of iconic movie and comp industry titles without getting torn apart by it.
1 Point less because of the missing cover system in fire

I've been playing indie games a lot lately rather than mainstream games. You may wonder why that is, but I have a very good reason for wanting to do so. The simplest truth is that I find indie developers to be better at making video games than mainstream developers, mostly because mainstream developers don't actually make video games most of the time.

What do they make? Well, from my experience, I'd say their stock in trade is exercises in tedium, boring person simulators, and desaturated uncanny valley simulators. I look at something like Assassin's Creed or Grand Theft Auto and I'm given pause, I have to ask myself where the fun is in those games, because there really isn't any. The other day I realised that I had more fun playing Kerbal Space Program, because at least there's an element of the fantastic to that, there's a degree of imagination involved.

Whereas something like Grand Theft Auto IV has a fetish for reality, it cares more about believable hydraulics than having fun. If I wanted believable hydraulics, I'd go and take a drive in my car. What I want from a video game is something that feels more arcadey and fun, something detached from reality, something that genuinely makes me feel good when I play it because of the aforementioned fun factor. So, what am I doing in Grand Theft Auto IV? I'm driving my brother around to go to a strip joint, or bowling, or to play darts. I could do these things myself, so why am I doing them in a video game again? Are people really so stagnant that they find entertainment in this?

Even Assassin's Creed is limited by its attachment to historical accuracy, so often you'll have to sit through long and not at all engaging cutscenes before you can... uh, have the game play itself, because requiring skill is dangerous, it might upset the player. See, I'm not against cutscenes, if they were interesting and well written I could sit through them. But let's be honest, gaming is hardly Pan's Labyrinth, and most of the writers are bloody awful (Obsidian hoards the good ones, I think), so making me sit through cutscenes that make me cringe? That's not fun. I don't want that. They can keep that.

And again, I like parkour, but I like having some say in whether I fail. Assassin's Creed is so easy that I could play it in my sleep. So having jumping puzzles in that game is worthless. And therein lies the issue, there's nothing which actually challenges the player on any level, but worse, there's no fun to be had. If you were having fun, at least, then it wouldn't matter.

See, this is why I like proper video games. I do like games. And I mean video games. You know? Recently, I've enjoyed Megabyte Punch and Beatbuddy because they're both proper video games. It's what I prefer to play. They have no pretensions about huge, involving stories, which is good, because only a few developers (Obsidian, and sometimes BioWare on a good day) can actually deliver. They concentrate on what was always fun about video games: The game itself. They make the game fun to play. They make it an enthralling visual feast of colour and sound, they have tight controls, and the end result is incredibly enjoyable.

So, what is the mainstream, to me? An exercise in soporific dullness backed up by bad writing and massively desaturated colour palettes (because colour is bad, it might scare people). I must have missed the memo that told humanity that we were now soulless, brain-drained accountants, with no love for creativity, novelty, or innovation.

If the mainstream represents the 'fantasies' of people today, then by golly, people are stagnantly boring.

So, what does any of this have to do with Saints Row IV? SR IV is a mutant. It's a mainstream game. I'm not entirely sure how that happened, really. But there it is. It's ridiculous, over-the-top, colourful, and it possesses that rarest of qualities which so many games are absent of of late: FUN. It's really very fun. So, I'm a werewolf in a suit with a powertie using superpowers to climb a jumping puzzle-laden sci-fi monument one moment, and the next I'm escaping from an alien mothership to the tune of "What is Love?" And then, then I'm using telekinesis to throw people and vehicles through coloured hoops in a faux gameshow.

    It's really fun.

But more than that? More than that? It's a game. It's a video game. It's the real deal. It's just a video game.

And that's the best praise I could give to Saints Row IV. It's not an exercise in tedium, it's not a boring person simulator, it's not an accountant's most slate-coloured and plebeian fantasy... it's not any of those things. It's a game. It is a game that you will have fun playing. Unless you're a very boring person, in which case you won't. But hey, no worries, Assassin's Creed and Grand Theft Auto await to fulfill your entirely too mundane desires.

For people like myself, there's Saints Row IV.

Volition, you are too kind to me, and to any other person out there with an interest in video games.

Saint's Row IV. Many words can describe this game but only one rings true for it's entirety. Stupid. Now stupid may be an ugly word, but in the context I am using it, it means complete and utter brilliance. Volition know they're game isn't serious, and they embrace it. The aliens, the weapons, the Nolan North voice option, all of these factor into the game's complete self criticism. It's as if Volition said "Saint's Row is stupid, lets make it even more stupid" and it worked brilliantly.

Enough praise for now, let's get to the game itself. Saint's Row has undoubtedly improved itself since it's last outing. The Third was by no means a bad game, but Saint's Row IV improves upon it astronomically. More guns, more vehicles, more mini-games, more stupidity and who could forget the super powers, which are the most interesting part of this new game. The game play has been significantly improved and made more challenging, the player now has to collect Unreal style health pick-ups seeing as the health regeneration feature has been reduced greatly. This adds an extra layer depth to the previously simple fighting mechanic, it also makes it's game play so much more intense than games like Call of Duty or GTA V. The new blast mechanics force the player to strategize, balancing their now limited health and usually taking on five or more enemies at once can be a real challenge so when you see your freeze blast recharge fully you'll breathe a sigh of relief and shatter some New mini games have been introduced, along with an Olympic medal style ranking system which encourages player to replay until they earn gold.

But the main, crowning feature of this game, are it's superpowers. Not just the powers themselves but the nooks and crannies that come with aforementioned powers. The world now has much more verticality, collectibles are on the 22nd story of a building or in between massive industrial chimneys. A massive new upgrade tree, along with the Saint's standard upgrade tree seen in every game. With each data cluster, the player is that little bit closer to unlocking a desired superpower or additional element for their blast power. Finally, it's plain and simple fun just to fly around the city of Steelport.

The narrative side is where this game has completely overdone the stupid. Aliens attack and the Saints are the only thing that can stop them. A lowly gang of gangbanger/celebrities/politicians etc etc, are now tasked with the protection of the human race. Sounds completely ridiculous, well that's because it is. It's also the most entertainment I've had since, well, Saint's Row 2. The characters are over the top, the jokes are at times subtle or extremely distasteful and in your face, but always make you laugh. To be frank, this game perfects what gaming should be. It's cut all ties to reality and sanity, it's taken the "Who the Hell wants to plays a game for realism" approach. This game makes you feel like a complete badass, and there's nothing wrong with that. The writing is witty and would make any middle aged man chuckle with glee thanks to an absolute tonne of 80s references (play thermonuclear war). At the same time, any immature little brat like myself would find most jokes hilarious. This game isn't afraid to outright steal from other games, fans of Mass Effect might notice a certain cameo appearance and even a wannabe Normandy, inFamous and Prototype fans will definitely see some obvious similarities. But it's all done with self awareness, Volition knew what they were doing, and even went so far as to extend the reach of their plagiarism. It is perfection.

Issues include some shoddy graphics as the game is still running on an older engine, but anyone who buys a game for graphics is as bad as someone buying a book for its cover. There are glitches, but they were relatively small and easy enough to handle. Some of the flying is hard to control when playing on PC, but works wonderfully with a controller.

In the end, Saint's Row IV is worth your money, time and effort. It's unparalleled obscurity and stupidity are only starting points for why you should play this game. It is an unforgettable experience, in the best way.

The super power system is extremely streamlined and I enjoyed the return of challenges to unlock special abilities both for your character and your super powers. Saints Row IV is different from its predecessor because in Saints Row IV your character will have cool super powers like freeze blast, telekenesis, super stomp, etc. In Saints Row IV cars are pretty much useless because you'll most likely be using super jump and super sprint to travel. But you can still cuztomize them the way you like. The character customization is excellent, you can customize almost anything. The side actvivities are very fun, I really like Prof. Genki's Mind Over Murder because it's fun and challenging. The game has many refrences to other games. Then one rainy day I decided to boot it up and was more than pleasantly surprised with what I discovered. Essentially the movies 'Independence Day' and 'The Matrix' bashed into one action packed escapade, this game is chock-full of witty dialogue, pop culture references, and explosions; lots of explosions. And for those of you who still think this is just another 'Grand Theft Auto' clone, I've got six words for you: you barely drive In this game. It's based much more on pedestrian missions as opposed to car driven ones. There, I said it and I'm glad that I got it off of my chest.

The best part of the single player campaign in 'Saints Row 4' is how it never grows stale; constantly changing perspectives, situations, characters, and even genre, this game keeps you own your feet and never lets you down. In just a few minutes you'll go from platforming, to 2D side-scrolling beat em' up, to sitting in a turret blasting alien spaceships out of the sky. But the game doesn't stop there, it also adds in super powers to really make things fun and gives you the ability to jump as high as buildings, run faster than the speed of sound, shoot fire out of your palms, and basically any other awesome power you can think of; yep, this game has it all.

I'm so glad that I finally gave 'Saints Row IV' a chance, because this is one of those games that you sit down to play for an hour and end up beating the whole damn thing. It instantly grabs you with it's balls to the wall attitude, tosses you up against that wall, and then proceeds to give you the thrill ride of a lifetime. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, the cut-scenes don't feel like a chore to watch, it's fast-paced, it's entertaining, it's got sex, it's got cars, it's got guns galore; it's basically the best action movie you've ever seen. Aliens have come to take over the planet, and it's up to the president of the United States to save the day. What else is new. Welcome to Earth.

This game is one of the few games that kept me playing for hours straight. I think i'm one of the few who barely used guns throughout the game. The melee killmoves looks awesome and badass.

Is it just me or is the Dubstep Gun the best gun ever?

At its best, Saints Row IV is a love letter to the franchise. At its worst, the game is just a copy and paste of Saints Row The Third with aliens and superpowers.

Superpowers! Blast, Telekinesis, Stomp (each with varying elements like Freeze or Fire), Super Jump, Super Sprint (previewed in SR3 The Trouble With Clones DLC) and several more form the core of the game play, and are the primary attraction. Why take a car when you can run faster than a car? Is that building in your way? Jump over it. Too tall to jump over it? Not to worry: you can wall-run! Need to take out that group of enemies? Sure, you can use guns; but why not drop into the middle of them and stomp your foot once to send them flying? Much easier! The catch is that the superpowers do make the game generally easy (the Superhero Fight Club activities being the occasionally frustrating exception).

The story of Saints Row IV is, of course, completely over-the-top. But that's not out of place in a Saints Row game. The Boss is now the President of the United States; Earth has been invaded by the alien Zin, who abduct the Boss and the homies. Much of the game is spent rescuing members of your crew, which requires visiting a simulation of that homie's worst nightmare. There are some fantastic nostalgia trips (you even revisit some of the original Saints Row game) and funny satire (no game or movie is exempt, not even Metal Gear or Mass Effect). Much of it is accompanied by a great selection of songs; shooting up a Genki challenge with a certain character (long thought dead) while “The Boys are Back” plays was hilarious. While not every character from the franchise appears, all the major ones do.

The downside is that Saints Row IV is, at its heart, a copy-and-paste of Saints Row The Third. Steelport is virtually unchanged; the city map is exactly the same. Activities are exactly the same; Tank Mayhem, for instance, is the same activity with an alien Zin tank instead of an Abrams tank. The planes and aerial vehicles are reskinned SR3 models; they fly and function exactly the same. Hijacking cars is even still a thing; the in-game explanation makes sense, but doesn't hide anything else. With superpowers, cars are a waste anyway. Weapons are unique and fun, and even slightly moddable; but if you've played Red Faction: Armageddon, more than a few will be familiar (Volition developed both games). There's a lot more, but you get the idea.

If you're looking for a completely new Saints Row game, you won't find it Saints Row IV (outside of the superpower implementation, which is superb). If you're looking for a game that is simply a blast to play – one that will make you laugh far more than it will make you scream in frustration – then absolutely get this one. In a time when all forms of entertainment are getting more serious, the absurdity of Saints Row IV is an absolute breath of fresh air.

    On DLC:
As with so many games today, there is too much DLC. At least the Game of the Century Edition includes everything.

First, this was actually an expansion for the third game that in the end became a game on its own: that is reason why it lacks a lot of innovation and it just doesn't do much new...but if people can still play CoD every year despise being the exact same, this game actually DOES things a lot better than you'd expect. First, the game got a lot better in the story: many old ones and some even new will really shine out in every moment..heck even the VILLAIN is great! Not only that, a lot of the dialogues, jokes, and writing in general just got way better, without mentioning lots of scenes with just pure random awesomeness (one word: "Haddaway"). For the game itself...it had some tweaks sure: the game now features more guns with more differences between them, with also more customization options on cars and also costumes (even though not as many as you'd think). The game unfortunely changes the colors of the game into a very darkish red, meaning that the old Steelport is long gone in here: It's not a big deal, but it is a worse sight for your eyes. And of course, we got superpowers...and this is why I also dislike this game much. Because the superpowers replaces every single type of transport. Sure, you can drive (we got some few new vehicles, both flying and cars. I didn't see any water ones though), but with the superpowers you can literally plane all over the place, from side to side, in a matter of seconds, without mentioning that you're flatout faster, more agile, and everything: cars are literally pointless in this game, and it defeats the purpose of being a "Free-roaming" game, since it's more like a super-hero game. I'm not saying that this is a flaw per se but, in a way, it's like playing GTA with noclip: it's so fun at first, but you'd still want to play all the game normally without so much strength. Also, missions got very varied this game, even if slightly, and most of them still consist on same objectives but you'll have to use a different method; we also have few new missions too, like the sprint missions, puzzles with super powers (like jumping platforms, telekinesis throw, etc), some old, like Genki's and Fraud (with super powers, it's WAY hilarious to play!). My only drawback is that a lot of these missions are just too simple and easy to complete, no point even giving us 3 medals since it's so easy to complete them. And lastly, my biggest problem which was also in the third game: it's way too repetitive in here and a lot of missions are just submissions (cracking the places are the most annoying too). Sure the good missionns are GOOD and you'll love to unlock everything but I felt a lot of missions being the same exact thing. In other words, as much as I loved this game, as much as I loved the passion put into this game (especially the fact that "one" character comes back, it shows how they cared for the fans. I guess?), I personally prefer Saints Row 3 for its simplicity. But is SR4 worth? Absolutely: it's a fun game and, surprise, games are made for having fun, and it hits the spot with some resevervation.
Has flaws, but also tons of fun in it, give it a try if you just want to relax and enjoy some silly comedy.

Everything is optional, yet nothing is a grind. // Wow. Just WOW! Saints Row IV is one of those rare games in the (increasingly saturated) genre that manages to be both original and high quality. It REDEFINES sandbox much in the same way that Grand Theft Auto III popularised it. The philosophy here is to give the player freedom. You are presented with a large set of options, tools, mechanics etc. and what you do with them is totally up to you. Saints Row IV has a surprisingly deep yet simple RPG element, in which everything is customizable. Vehicles, weapons, skills, abilities and especially your character. It's perhaps one of the least limiting open-world games to date. Not only does Saints Row IV give you the necessary tools to have fun through its RPG elements and of course, superpowers, but it also capitalizes on something so fundamental to sandbox games which has been missed by most others: VARIETY. By not taking itself seriously and having many disjointed events and tools, it manages to compile some of the best parody of other video games I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The level design in Saints Row IV, coupled with the whole plot, context and game mechanics, are so ridiculously unbounded that one almost wonders how games like Grand Theft Auto IV - with its repetitive missions, boring story and repetitive, dull gameplay - can co-exist alongside something as creative as Saints Row IV. The main reason the game works is due to its presentation. Everything is a game within a game. More importantly, the game KNOWS this, and takes full advantage to speak to the player directly. The designers have clearly understood the essence of what makes sandbox games so fun, and focused entirely on designing the story, levels and game mechanics around this. It blatantly steals ideas from other games such as Crackdown and Total Overdose but also ridicules other games in a light-hearted and overt manner. The over-the-top nature isn't just a fad that wears off however. It is the core of this game. It's not that Saints Row IV is ABNORMAL, it's that other open-world games don't think outside of the realms of their contexts. There are so many ideas all rolled into one (seemingly) big mess, but make no mistake. Saints Row IV is a very well-structured game and quite sensible with regards to how it co-ordinates its elements. The key to its success is modularity. Everything seems optional, yet almost everything is fun to do. So whilst a masterpiece such as San Andreas may offer a complete ecosystem, there will inevitably be activities, levels and side missions which are not particularly exciting. But in Saints Row IV, the developers didn't feel the need to make the world seem coherent and well-rounded. So everything in Saints Row IV is fun, but optional. Even the main story is optional! This non-linear approach is surely what sets open-world games apart (by definition). From a more technical perspective, Saints Row IV runs very well with negligible issues. For a game as rich as this, it is indeed baffling how the quality can be to such a mainstream standard. The options for controls, graphics and audio are also commendable and non-limiting. Visually, the game doesn't look too bad on Ultra with some awesome lighting effects, draw distance and scale, yet for an open-world game isn't too demanding. The facial detail is laughably bad - surprising given the in-depth character customisation, but this may be intentional. Finally, I'd like to round off by applauding the soundtrack. Saints Row IV has some of the most well-chosen soundtracks for an open-world game, and uses it ingeniously at times. In summary, Saints Row IV is the definition of a sandbox game. If someone asked me what the two best sandbox games are, I would say San Andreas (the best game of all time) and Saints Row IV. Expand

For everyone else it's just sheer over-the-top ridiculous fun. The controls are fantastic and the game plays smoothly even on older hardware. Coop is reliable and even more satisfying than going it alone. The fact that pretty much every single mission from start to finish is coop friendly is extra icing on an already delicious psychopathic cake.

The only real issue I have with this game is that there is a bit of monotony on the various side missions available. The game does a good job in breaking it up with the homie chatter, but it does start to wear after the third or fourth "go here, kill them" mission. Then again, it's always fresh and fun if you have a coop partner.

Years after the 3rd game, the Boss (you) has been elected President of the United States, with several members of the Saints acting as cabinet. While preparing for a press conference, the Boss is told that an alien invasion is coming. Just as the Boss is informed, the invasion begins, spearheaded by the alien warlord Zinyak, who captures all of the cabinet members as well as the Boss. The story here is stupid, corny, and filled with some cliches, but surprisingly I enjoyed it. You must understand that the game isn't taking itself seriously and that it's not trying to rival GTA 5. So it's understandable that the game isn't gonna have an in-depth interactive story with great writing. Despite this, I actually wanted to keep playing until I reached the end because of the Characters. Since most of the setting is in a simulation of Steelport (city) where you do missions as a virtual version of yourself, Volition decided to bring most of the cast from the 3 earlier games back, including villains. The actual setting is in a spaceship where your physical body can chat with your crew mates, romance them (Mass Effect parody), and do quests for them. All the characters are well voiced (including all 7 voice options for your character), the dialogue is funny and witty, all characters have nice backstory (mostly in the form of audio files), and the main villain is quite entertaining to watch. Zinyak sorta reminds me of Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2. Zinyak's the kind of villain who's funny, and someone who you'll like to kill when you get the chance. Even though the story is dumb, I somehow found enjoyment in it thanks to the well made characters. 8/10

    Gameplay:
As if the story wasn't ridiculous enough, the gameplay takes the ridiculous meter, uses telekinesis on it, and shoots it towards the sky. If you thought the game was a GTA clone, then you'll be surprised with what you see. For starters, you can create your character with an impressive amount of options. On top of that, you get superpowers and outlandish weapons like alien weapons or the dubstep gun. You also get a variety of activities to do in Steelport like hacking, mayhem, fraud, blazin races, and more. Doing these will help liberate the simulation from alien control. There are also challenges you can do, up to 50 levels for you to rank up, and a check-list of upgrades (both player and superpowers) you'll want to get. There are also "side quests", but these are extremely repetitive and sometimes frustrating to play since all these quests involve you doing city activities and that's it. So while you're playing these side quest, you're also inadvertently liberating the aliens from the simulation. This means you're doing the same old activities over and over again, and not all of them work. I hated playing some of the "rift" activities as well as tk mayhem and stomp mayhem. Another problem is that the game is to easy on normal difficulty. Since you have super speed, cars are useless. since you have powers, calling in homies for backup is also useless since you can just use freeze or takedowns to win most fights. The quest variety comes from the loyalty and main questline. Here, Volution puts in so many references to movies, games, and other media that this game has been called "The Scary Movie of Video Games" by some. And that's what made these missions more entertaining then some of GTA 5's missions. Besides side quests and difficulty problems, the gameplay is ridiculously fun. 7/10

    Graphics:
The game looks outdated, even with max settings. Lip-sync is off, animations look stiff and awkward, the PC version occasionally freezes for a few seconds, and it doesn't help that the night time setting can't change until after the story is over. Overall, very mediocre. 5/10

    Sound:
Ignoring the dubstep which I hate, The actual score is really good with good techno music playing in the background of quests. It's sad that the radio songs aren't as good as GTA 5 though, but atleast we can listen to music OUTSIDE of our cars like in Watch Dogs. 7/10

    Multiplayer:
The co-op is a ton of fun to play. Not only can you do the entire story plus all the side activities with a buddy, but you can also do some 1-on-1 competitive multiplayer with some game modes. If you're someone who doesn't have anyone to play with, then unlike Borderlands 2, you can actually play by yourself fine with no unfair difficulty increase. But if you can, play with a friend because the fun starts to multiply as you play. 9/10

    Verdict:
Even though it's not the classic Saints Row experience that people were looking for, it's still a fun game with great multiplayer, good gameplay, and a surprisingly good story. Even if it's not as good as GTA 5 as many people would love to say, I still recommend you buy this, especially if you're someone who's tired of all these serious hyper-realistic games that seem to be the norm today.

I didn't think it could get more over the top than SR3, but I was wrong. Sure, it's basically the same game as before, now with super powers, but why mess with a winning formula. This game is a MUST HAVE if you have a sense of humor, aren't a prude and love action. It beats the competition by miles.

Here's what not to expect: - The use of M.F. every 5 seconds for no apparent purpose. - The use of racial slurs every 6 seconds for no apparent purpose. - Incentives to murder the good guys (SR4 gets around this neatly but it would be a spoiler to explain).

    - Excessive use of ridiculous humour everywhere.

    - An almost infinite number (if you do the math its a VERY BIG NUMBER) of permutations for character customization.
    - The use of the profanity but minimally. The player isn't mindlessly bombarded with it.
    - Plenty of sexual based humour. If you find sex offensive then fine but try and leave the Sunday School "sex is bad" at Sunday School and you'll see the humour in it.
    - Bizarreness in the extreme.
    - Did I mention it's completely BIZARRE yet?

However Saints Row IV's major slipping point is its re-use of the City of Steel port, a rather generic and boring industrial city but that's just nitpicking, any city is funner when you can fly naked over it.

The almost constant bombardment of parodies can sometimes get obscure, it sometimes feels like a 1/4 of the game is just pointing at Hollywood and yelling 'Ha!' but if you're attracted by that, then feel free to enjoy it, i sure did.

Overall Saints Row IV is like a fine lady, you can give it respect but all its going to do is devour your time and cause you to go crazy. (but hey, at least you'll fit with the style of the game then!)

I could see in SR2 where Volition had a lot of GTA influence. In SR3 it seemed like they no longer wanted to be just a GTA-clone, though, and started finding ways to distinguish themselves from GTA.

Whereas GTA stayed on the "realism" route, Volition apparently decided to take the batguano-over-the-top-insane route for SR. SR3 accomplished this by adding an ultra high-tech paramilitary organization with futuristic weapons and vehicles. With SRIV, the link to reality was wholly severed. Instead of zombies and lasers, you get super powers: speed, jumping, and gliding, to name some of the basics.

One drawback to these super powers is they invalidate/supersede much of the content that the genre was built on. The wide varieties of vehicles and weapons in the game become all but useless. There's no point upgrading your pistol or SMG when you can just super-punch an enemy in the dick to instakill him. Satisfying as it may be, it gets old and tedious fairly quickly.

Another disappointment with SRIV is that it inherited perhaps too much of SR3. From a story standpoint it's understandable why the same city is reused, but there were practically no improvements to it.

Like a band that experiments with different genres & sounds from album to album, Volition experimented with adding surrealism to the GTA base formula with each subsequent Saints Row game. It was fun while it lasted. Problem is now: what direction do you take the franchise after Playa/Boss has tasted super powers and killed aliens?

Info for the people who are looking for the good GTA clone - you won't find it here. You will get a really awesome experience, which can not be described with the words - everything you need to know is the "FUN" word. This game would be 10/10 if it had no bugs and glitches like getting randomly stuck while using superpowers.

Not as good as the third one, but better than the third one. Yes, you read right. Combat was more fun, super-powers were super-cool, but it's way too short. Story is short, and then the whole game is short. But yeah, 84/100 I'd say.

First of all i love actionpacked and crazy games, which is just what SR4 is! People are talking about how easy the game is with the new super powers, but i'm on the way through the game on hardcore difficulty, and i'd say it actually offers a fairly good challenge. Im really satisfied with the new options super powers offers, and the only downside i've seen is that cars are pretty much useless now.
There've also been alot critic because some people thinks it's just Saints Row 3 over again, and i must say, pretty much the only thing they haven't changed too much is the world. There's new weapons, new clothes, new activites, superpowers, the possibility to paint your weapons and much, much more. I know there's some basic things they haven't changed either, but that's what makes Saints Row Saints Row, isn't it? I would also love a new or just bigger world, but considering the short deadline Deep Silver gave Volition at last, i'm pretty satisfied that they atleast made some changes in the city.
All in all i think this is a great sandbox games that you can spend alot time playing. I wasn't sure if i should give the game 8 or 9, but i felt that the average was a lil' low so i decided to go for the 9 out of 10. Good Job Volition!

It has clipping issues, the graphics seem kind of muddy at times, and some aspects are overshadowed by others. The game is particularly easy even on Hardcore, and I've only died about once or twice in actual combat (partly due to superpowers that make the game a cakewalk). The story is nonsensical but that's also it's charm, as the sharp tongued writing compliments it. The hubworld is kind of small (in my opinion) and everything feels artificial in a sense. It's certainly not lively as it could be and the AI is pretty stupid at times, just allowing me to pick them off or never flanking my cover. Super powers are a blast to play with and you'll find yourself just running around like the Flash or scaling giant buildings just because you can. The soundtrack is also masterfully done, and the game sounds pretty good. Overall, it's just really fun to play. Buy it if you want to shut your mind off and just lose yourself to insanity, because it's well worth the experience. Expand

The introduction of Super-Powers in this game is awesome and something I had a TON of fun with. I think they introduced Super-Powers too early and I tended to use my Super Speed more then actually getting into a car. Which is really just a kick to the teeth the people who added the car customization's which is really cool.

Clothing and tattoos are pretty much the same in this game and they haven't introduced much new clothing which is disappointing but doesn't really affect the over all game play.

The story I found was much better then Saints Row 3 and I enjoyed it A LOT more then Saints Row 3. I wish though they haven't got rid of cribs you're only main crib is you're space ship you're crew stays in for the ENTIRE game.

If you wish to play a serious Sand-Box game then go play GTA but if you wan't to "kill things" in the most creative and fun way then play Saints Row 4. They completely steer away from comparison from the GTA franchise is which I think they were hoping for when they released Saints Row 3 and now Saints Row 4.

The references to Saints Row 1 and 2 is awesome and fun. I had a ton of fun playing those missions. Also bringing back Gat was an awesome choice made by the developers.

If you want to have fun killing your enemy's in the most creative way then I would recommend Saints Row 4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the most part, while I am sad the best part of the customization will never return, the game was surprisingly fun to play through. I only ever witnessed two crashes, no severe game killing bugs or glitches and I loved the new features like weapon skins with their own sounds and even ways they fire, the super powers are nice to but I just wish they gave us them much later in the game to be of better use and not feel god-like so early. I did not like the 'general' creatures, the wardens as they are called, they felt lack luster and rather dull, once you get used to fighting them they are easy to take down, I would have personally liked more variety in enemies. Oh and I must mention how i liked the reappearances of some of the classic characters from the other games like Julius, retro Shaundi, James King and my personal favourite, Johnny Gat. I have rarely had so much fun in co-op as well, SR4's co-op is fun and I got a lot of laughs I can tell you, but overall I love this game, even if it has a tad few annoying things here and there, like how the hell do I get access to my jets if I cannot use an airport anymore. The graphic is fine, worse than gta 5/bf4, or some others game, but still acceptable....u guys see the objects in simulation turn into white squares in certain period because the game designer trying to make it like a"virtual world".
It is good for game designer trying something new as the "GTA style "game is getting old fashion.
The game introduce super-power into the game but disallow it in certain mission for balance.
Friendly AI will find vehicles for themselves if u don't have a seat for them as SR 3 does....
    However,the game isn't good enough.
Someone say the game should be a DLC. However, as a DLC, the content is so long, for a full game, it's too short. It should be a expansion pack rather than DLC/game.
The game didn't make a good balance in story lines. The"alien War" is not serious enough,(just old school American hero story style @Q@) the game designer should put more effort on making it more reasonable and longer.
The "what if"& "review life"on ex-gangs member can be deeper.
Even the superpower restricted in missions, the superpower still ruined the game play. With sprint and jump,u don't need car anymore. In the later game....... Superpower and super weapons cause friendly fire easily. Each kill drop health box in simulation making the fight so easy.....
Another problem is the concept of weapon upgrade .There's tons of single weapon ability for u to upgrade but limit ways to earn cache, even some upgrade item can be ignored if u have the ammo chip upgrade ,with hours for farming cache, It is barely possible to get all the weapons upgrade before the game is end.
Maybe I am bad in luck...most mission give me least favor weapons when I focus in others.
The final thing I want to say is:please let me replay missions after finish the game, like Sleeping dogs

However, the game isn't without it's flaws, most noticeably the fact that this game is based on an engine that was never really designed for a super-power based game, it's not that big of an issue as the super powers them self work like a dream but the destruction to the environment doesn't really exist at all. The game structure is mass effect 2 meets the Matrix, but it has streets of rage, metal gear solid, back to the future, metroid, armaggedon.

Saints Row IV is even sillier than the 3rd. It is essentially a big parody of all sci-fi big-name media. The story is a bit mad, but it allows for the very unique and fun missions. Downsides are that the introduction of superpowers takes away from other areas of the game and the story ending can be a bit disappointing.

You just can't go wrong with Saint's Row. GTA just doesn't satisfy like Saint's Row does. I never got through GTA IV because it wasn't that fun. Picking up my fat cousin and going out for dinner is not my idea of a good time. Why not pick him up, slap him across the face with a giant purple **** and then slam his face into the ground with some superpowers...?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Should it have been just a DLC for SR3? Maybe, but despite that was ST4's first intention I was able to play through the whole game feeling like it was something completely separate from it's predecessor. The game is ridiculous in a very smart way and makes fun of stuff delightfully (unlike other games *Borderlands 2*), for example, " 'merica " is a weapon that aims to ridicule and symbolize a country so "powerful" it is actually know for the name of it's continent. Though the game ridicules all this stuff you never feel like they mean to harm anyone in particular. At times I even felt ridiculed by the game, yet I found myself ending up finding that fun. There's a huge variety of weapons that are actually different from each other, like the motherfreaking dubstep weapon that fires explosive wubs, makes everyone around you drop it and makes cars bounce to the beat. Technically speaking the were some framerate issues, crashes and bugs (but essentially framerate). I mean, I can run BF4 constant +30 fps on ultra but SR4 drops to 22 at times? I did have to repeat 1 or 2 missions due to crashes and gameplay wise the super running and jumping felt great to travel around but, sometimes, felt a bit awkward within small steps. Overall great humor and gameplay. Expand

But, the always dark environments don't seem to help the actually impressive graphics. The strip clubs are too wacky and too sexy. No boobs required. The women are not used as sex toys as much, but, I still don't like it. And the superpowers can be over powered. Like running really fast, who needs wheels now? This game is for people who are saints row fans that did not like saints row the third. There are flaws, but, it is still a fantastic game. Final Verdict: 8 out of 10 AWESOME Expand

At first, it seemed the usual shooter. Your character is fighting terrorists, dressed in SWAT-type combat armor. Then everything changes. Your character is elected the President of the USA, fighting aliens and has super powers! All this within the first five minutes!

Superb music, with multiple radio stations like a GTA game has. With radio commenters saying things that add to the story. You even have a station where the alien leader reads you "Pride and Prejudice"! Now that's original.

It's silly, but it's FUN silly! The music is fun, the fighting is fun, even running and jumping around the city exploring is fun! The co-op mode is solid and makes it even more hilarious as you can play with a equally super-powered friend. And the dialogue is just great to listen to.

I really enjoyed this game. it's a high-powered parody of Grand-Theft Auto type games. Doesn't take itself too seriously, and yet has solid and enjoyable gameplay at its core. Also has quite a cool "be yourself, don't conform" vibe to it. Highly recommended!

I admit the game was extremely exaggerated than the SR The Third but even though the gameplay and the story line was crazy, It was a helluva game!

If you want the GTA type then this game ain't for you.

This game had me hooked from the get go. Game play similar to Prototype, which is a good thing! Great humor too. Once you get superpowers there's no need for cars!!

Wonderful game. Good game play, and I sure give a point for all the comedies. But, not all things are accepted in my thoughts. The aliens sure bother you were ever you go. Saints Row IV finds you kidnapped by aliens and trapped inside of a simulation needing to free your crew and take on the aliens. While inside the simulation you get access to superpowers and basically become Neo. The humour is fantastic and the game does a great job of referencing various movies such as The Matrix and They Live. There are also various scenes that just have a damn near perfect soundtrack choice to take the fun up a notch. For instance I had never had a dogfight in an alien craft before set to “What Is Love” but I have now and it was highly enjoyable. They also do a great job of referencing the various characters and stories of the previous Saints Row games. There is a crazy amount of customization you can do to your character’s body and clothes and to weapons and to vehicles. There are lots of activities you can do as optional side quests but I found I didn’t enjoy many of them. They weren’t bad, I enjoyed ones where you inject viruses or assassinate rogue programs but didn’t enjoy some of the ones that were a timed mission. They also highlighted the lack of side quests for crew members. All of the missions for crew members, aside from a loyalty mission, was just them getting you to do sets of three of the various activities. The game also did a good job poking fun at Mass Effect’s romance options and the suicide mission sequence from Mass Effect 2. The one thing the game lacked was custom music. In GTA IV I could point the game to my music folder and have a custom music station to listen to and Saints Row IV didn’t have that. It did allow me to create a custom mix tape from all of the stations but I still would have preferred my own music. The game had decent graphical detail across the board. At no point was I blown away but at no point was I disappointed. Even for a game from 2013 I can list games that are the same age or older that have better detail but can also list many that have worse. The voice acting was very well done for all involved. I actually ended up preferring the human weapons as I found the alien weapons to feel weak, maybe it was more of an issue of their sound then how much damage they do. They also could overheat where the human weapons couldn’t.

I played Saints Row IV on Linux. It was a decent port but not without issues. There were minor glitches I observed. My characters coat went through the floor of the car; a few times there would be no lip movement when a character spoke; and the AI movement was bad at times with them getting stuck around cars and obstacles. During play I had one time where the game froze and one time where the game crashed. The performance of the game was very spotty. I have put off playing Saints Row IV over the years as I like to play games maxed out and throughout the years as I upgraded from a R9 270; to a R9 380; to an RX480; to an RX 580 and finally to my 5700 XT I have always had frame rate issues. During that time I have also upgraded my CPU from a FX-8350 to an FX-9590 and finally to my Ryzen 5 2600X. The game spends a lot of the time above 60 FPS but can drop for no reason randomly to as low as 13 FPS and go as high as 130 FPS. There are seven different AA settings; five different AF settings; three different AO settings; and five other graphics options. You can change the difficulty level at any time. You can also save at any time but if you’re on a multi part mission it won’t save the progress and you’ll start from the beginning of that mission. There are 22 save slots you can use. The game also auto saves after missions and other events. Alt-Tab works.

    VRAM Usage: 1315-1808 MB
    CPU Usage: 12-28 %
    RAM Usage: 2.8-3.6 GB
    Frame Rate: 13-130 FPS
Graphics Settings Used: 8x MSAA; 16x AF; all settings at high; 1920*1080
    Disk Space Used: 10.11 GB
    Input Used: Keyboard + Mouse

Overall I had a lot of fun with Saints Row IV which is no surprise as I also had a lot of fun with Saints Row the Third. No other open world series is as goofy or over the top and it never fails to put a smile on my face. If you enjoyed any other Saints Row games I encourage you to try this one. It has some issues but they didn’t impede me from having a good time. I finished the game in 26 hours and 24 minutes on normal difficulty. This was enough time to beat the main story; do all crew quests and loyalty missions; and complete 87% of the game overall. I got the game for free with a graphics card upgrade years ago but it is easily worth the $16.99 CAD it currently retails for and I would pay as much as $30 for it.

    My System:

    AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | 16GB DDR4-3000 CL15 | MSI RX 5700 XT Gaming X 8GB | Mesa 20.0.7 | Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB | Manjaro 20.0.3 | Mate 1.24 | Kernel 5.7.0-3-MANJARO

This game was a lot of fun. It may have just started as DLC using basically the same game world as Saints Row III, but who cares? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Watching my character blow up the town in some hologram of what looks like an episode of Leave it to Beaver is just the first of many hilarious moments. The action is as smooth and adrenaline-fueled as ever, amplified by your new superpowers. The problem is that these powers make the game too easy and also causes you to bypass certain gameplay elements that made Saints Row III such a blast. For example, I didn't bother to collect and upgrade cars in SR IV because of my super speed and ability to fly long distances, so why bother? Still a great time to be had, though, with plenty of jokes and sight gags, hysterical interactions between your character and the SR crew (Shaundi, Kinzie - who's a riot, Johnny Gat, etc.), a fun if ridiculous story, and of course, getting to blast tons of enemies and blow things apart in every way imaginable. And if you think the main plot is absurd, play the DLC How The Saints Saved Christmas, it doesn't get any loonier than that! Expand

This was just AWESOME! I never played any SR game in the past and I knew about this only from my friend. She shown me a trailer and I gave it a try (because whaaat - a dubstep gun?), and I will never regret it. One of the best games I ever played!

Saints row IV is a big change from the other games in the series most in part because of super powers(they are really cool). They make the game feel unique, but also make it too easy at times. Saints Row The Third did not interest me. It was just another "GTA Clone". And then SR4 came in. The gameplay so different from SR3 made the game.

Saints Row 4 is probably the craziest and most over the top open world game ever published. Logics and realism doesn't exist in this game but this is what makes it so great: Its a vacation from GTA to a crazy world where almost everything is possible. The game is very fun and offers a lot of content.

The fourth part in the Saints Row saga is an outrageous, silly and incredibly entertaining adventure. The days of Grand Theft Auto is since long gone and the game reminds you rather of the super hero games Crackdown and Infamous. An unexpected but welcome change.
