Unfortunately, Sackboy: A Big Adventure ultimately feels like a worse platformer than Astro’s Playroom—a game that comes pre-installed on every PS5. While Astro’s Playroom doesn’t offer much in the way of challenging gameplay either, at least that game’s whole point is to show off the PS5’s capabilities. Sackboy: A Big Adventure sadly doesn’t really have that going for it. Rather, it’s an okay game at best. A decent enough platformer for someone who may not own a Nintendo system to play Mario games on, but even on PC, maybe something like A Hat in Time would be a better way to spend your time and money.

A good platform game. For me, the coolest aspect of this game is the song and the design. There are some stages with vibrant songs like uptown funk where the song matches the level design, for instance when the song gets more vigorous the ground makes Sackboy jump into the air and there are some paper dolls dancing in the background. But it is just a few stages that are like

But it is just a few stages that are like that, not all, which is a shame.

About the gameplay, it is ok, just generic 3D stages. It isn't bad but I think some stages lack some creativity, it just isn't as creative as the Mario 3D Games like Super Mario Galaxy or Odyssey.

The story is also super generic, basically just an excuse for the adventure to take place. It is a shame because here it could easily win the Mario franchise that has a generic story too but it just copied it, playing safe. The story is just about defeating Vex a 100% Manichaean bad villain that wants to conquer the world. But at least the dub is good and although it is a super simple story it can entertain. When you play safe, at least you can't go totally wrong.

I liked, it's a good game, but sony marketing was zero, very very sad. :'(

Just about the only complaint I could think of for the game is that its online multiplayer isn’t well-populated given that it’s not exactly setting the charts alight – but a) it’s fun in single-player, and b) that’s the sort of thing that could be fixed if Sackboy had the popularity it deserves. Do your part to help with that by checking it out, and get a pretty wonderful 3D platformer in the bargain.

Despite its initial problems with the PC release, Sackboy: A Big Adventure delivers today a high-quality experience. The game has excellent gameplay, fluid controls, and the ray tracing takes its stitched visuals to the next level. And while its current price is a bit overkill, it doesn't take away from its great foundation.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure has tonnes of heart, and just has joy bursting from every seam, whether you play alone, or in co-op. The scalable Unreal 4 engine impresses here, as we had the game looking, and running well on two spectacularly different devices. We only wished there was FSR support here, as it's an incredibly odd omission.
