    Remains a relatively shallow hackfest.
  2. A must-have for Rune fans, Vikings, berserkers, Mongol warlords and those with an unhealthy cutlery fixation. Added modes and features and improved control revitalizes an already solid game.
  3. Some Rune fans might be a bit disappointed by the lack of single player modes in the expansion pack, but if you're just looking for more ways to kill your friends you won't be let down.
  4. A solid title and those with the appropriate means will find it challenging until the bloodlust has worn off and repetition sets in, which, for some, will take quite a while. For the rest of the population hemmed in by slow ISPs, the game will be little more than a source of frustration.
  5. If you are new to the game, buy Halls of Valhalla – the expanded multiplayer options will make the overall experience more enjoyable.
  6. If you enjoyed Rune but wanted more multiplayer play, these two new modes offered in Halls of Valhalla will likely do very little to satiate your needs. Action fans should pass on this game altogether and put that same $20 towards "Serious Sam."

If you loved the multiplayer part of "Rune" -- go for it. If you're hoping it improves Rune… sorry.
  8. It simply takes the weakest part of the original game and repackages it with a few ultimately inconsequential bonuses--and then it ends up being even less impressive than that description.

Sure, it's a stand-alone expansion, but it's not a good stand-alone expansion. Rune was all about the single-player experience.
  10. You sever someone’s head and you need to lob it into a goal! Sounds fun? Yup, right up there with watching grass grow.

I remember playing it on LAN at the gaming club with my friends, I remember playing in from home on 30kbps Dial Up all weekend nights with pings around 300. This is by far the best multiplayer melee game I have played. These days there are great alternatives like Chivalry, but this 3rd person game mechanics are just so well done that I can't help but compare everything else to it. The dodging coming from it's Unreal Engine coupled with precise hit detection makes it the most skill based melee combat I've seen, without crazy combos you have to remember and be quick enough to perform - you just need to swing your weapon through your opponent's body and try to avoid their blade. And you can also throw a huge hammer at their heads. This multiplayer expansion changes the fight mechanics a bit and I like the new pace more, some people prefer classic gameplay. Recent re-release of Rune Classic on Steam has both modes easily switchable. Full Review »
