    Ruiner, oh boy, where do I even begin? This game, in all its crimson glory, left my eyes feeling like they'd seen too much red. Sure, it kicks off with a visual punch that's undeniably impressive. But hold on tight, because after a while, your eyes might just start protesting - at least mine certainly did.

    But enough about eye strain, let's dive into the heart of the matter: the combat.    Ruiner, oh boy, where do I even begin? This game, in all its crimson glory, left my eyes feeling like they'd seen too much red. Sure, it kicks off with a visual punch that's undeniably impressive. But hold on tight, because after a while, your eyes might just start protesting - at least mine certainly did.

    But enough about eye strain, let's dive into the heart of the matter: the combat. If there's one thing that managed to salvage my shattered retinas, it's the combat. No beating around the bush here - it's downright exhilarating and wonderfully brutal. Now, if you're even remotely considering venturing into Ruiner territory, my humble suggestion is to ditch the gamepad and embrace the KB+M life. Why, you ask? Well, the aiming, my friend. Aiming with a mouse is like a hot knife through butter; it just feels right. Plus, there's the little hiccup that the controller doesn't even throw you a crosshair bone.

    With that praise duly sung, I must admit that aside from its combative prowess and eye-searing aesthetics, Ruiner didn't quite make the top of my favorites list. Let's get the obvious gripe out of the way: the story. I hate to say it, but it's as cliché as a villain monologuing before the final showdown. Speaking of showdowns, the ending left me feeling unsatisfied, like that last piece of pizza you let your friend snag.

    Oh, and those dialogue choices? Don't let them fool you, my dear reader. They're like decorative garnishes on a plate - they might catch your eye, but in the end, they're just for show. Character depth? Well, that's a rare commodity in Ruiner town. They lack development like a partially exposed roll of film forgotten in a dusty corner. I'm not bitter, though. Just disappointed, especially since a couple of characters seemed to hold promise before being relegated to the background.

    The game tosses in a city hub for you to mill about in, presumably to prevent you from getting combat fatigue. Not a bad idea, right? But let's face it, those filler quests and interactions are like trying to season a steak with marshmallows – out of place and bafflingly unnecessary.

    Now, the world-building and lore background? Top-notch. Seriously, it's the kind of stuff that makes you want to dive in and get lost. Problem is, Ruiner seems more interested in feeding you scraps than a hearty meal. You get glimpses, tiny morsels of the bigger picture, but the game's central plot sucks up all the attention like a black hole at a cosmic buffet.

    Oh, and the cherry on top? The crashes. Trust me, I've danced this dance with the game around five or six times now. Blame it on the UE engine or directx, but it's a buzzkill. Even worse? It happened while I was tackling the arena, not once but twice out of those crashes. Arena progress? Yeah, it's like trying to herd cats. Not saved, nowhere to be found. The crash during the arena's climactic 10/10 showdown? Let's just say it was so exasperating that my girlfriend thought I'd lost my mind.

    So, there you have it - Ruiner, a game that offers a mixed bag with all the zest of a rollercoaster, though not always in the most enjoyable sense. The red-soaked spectacle and satisfyingly vicious combat certainly bring something to the table. But be prepared for a lackluster story, characters stuck in limbo, and a few unexpected crashes that might just leave you red in the face - and not from the game's aesthetics.    … Expand

    DEVOLVER DIGITAL standard.. making VIOLENT, DIFFICULT games with GOOD GAMEPLAY I give it an 8 because this one stressed me out more than HOTLINE MIAMI itself

    Неплохой шутер/слешер в стиле киберпанк.

    Плюсы: +Динамичность и зрелищность боев +МНОГО различного оружия , включая холодное +Присутствуют основные визуальные особенности стиля киберпанк: у всех персонажей различные имплантанты, всем правят беспринципные мегакорпорации, виртуальная рельность как наркотик, город-муравейник. + Особенностью ролевой системы является ее гибкость - в    Неплохой шутер/слешер в стиле киберпанк.

    Плюсы:
    +Динамичность и зрелищность боев
    +МНОГО различного оружия , включая холодное
    +Присутствуют основные визуальные особенности стиля киберпанк: у всех персонажей различные имплантанты, всем правят беспринципные мегакорпорации, виртуальная рельность как наркотик, город-муравейник.
    + Особенностью ролевой системы является ее гибкость - в любой моменты вы можете перераспределить способности и включить те импланты, которые полезны в данный момент.

    Минусы:
    -Слабоватый сюжет (хотя что вы от аркадного слешера хотите?)
    -Довольно однообразные локации

    You need to Bang Boom Skriiiip Ratata in this fast paced action game if you really wanna feel the addicting thrill of doing combos and destroying your enemies with a range of weapons. The gameplay is by far one of the funnest ones that I have had in these type of games. The soundtrack pumps you up for the next wave of enemies wishing to crush your bones to dust. The skill system is alsoYou need to Bang Boom Skriiiip Ratata in this fast paced action game if you really wanna feel the addicting thrill of doing combos and destroying your enemies with a range of weapons. The gameplay is by far one of the funnest ones that I have had in these type of games. The soundtrack pumps you up for the next wave of enemies wishing to crush your bones to dust. The skill system is also pretty giving you the option to test a different types of skill combinations that will suit your pathetic style (shield basher bros for life). The Ａｅｓｔｈｅｔｉｃ　サス佳 of this game is superb, I enjoyed the characters (we will all simp for HER don't lie you degenerates)even though they weren't that deeply explored , the city was cool but sadly it wasn't there for most of the time. My biggest issues is sometimes with the UI(the skill menu was a bit confusing at first), the controls not being responsive(happens rarely but still) and the short story and overall game time (I really hoped that there would be more character and world exploration)Overall I can only await for a second game which sadly will never come to be , oh well still gotta beat arena mode lol.… Expand

    Maybe this genre isn't for me... After playing a few of these "hotline miami" style games, I just get instantly bored after an hour or so. I'd only recommend this if you are really into the genre.

    I didn't played a lot, only 13 hours, but this game is so atmospheric, the music is great and helps the atmosphere. The gameplay, its a top down shooter, that means you like it, or you hate it, it depends on you, but for myself I can say, that it was very interesting. The story is short and you can pretend it, but it's a nice thing. You can have it done in 5 hours, I played twice to getI didn't played a lot, only 13 hours, but this game is so atmospheric, the music is great and helps the atmosphere. The gameplay, its a top down shooter, that means you like it, or you hate it, it depends on you, but for myself I can say, that it was very interesting. The story is short and you can pretend it, but it's a nice thing. You can have it done in 5 hours, I played twice to get all achievements.     Хорошие стороны:
    -Саундтрек: атмосферный и играет в тему -Стилистика: игра использует жанр киберпанк по полной программе, этим самым можно так подождать пока Cyberpunk 2077 допилят) -Геймплей: рекомендую высокий уровень сложности, чтобы ощутить полноценные    Игра очень хорошая, провёл в ней 9 часов с превеликим удовольствием. Для первой игры от студии Reikon Games так вообще отличная.

    Способности: скажем так, разнообразие есть, но в эффективности их есть некоторые вопросы, потому что на мой взгляд некоторые способности бесполезны.
    Боссы: в целом они классные, но было пару боссов, которые или проходятся только чудом, или просто тупо бегаешь по кругу и отстреливаешься, что не очень интересно.
    Сюжет: тут такой момент: для Shoot ’em upа сюжет прикольный и даёт пару твистов в конце, но это не мешает ему быть простым.

    По итогу игра стоит того, чтобы её купить и пройти. 6-9 часов геймплея вам обеспечено.)    … Expand

    Love the atmosphere of this game, good OST and good gameplay, especially when fights get so chaotic that it can become hard to tell what is going on, but the BRUTALITY and MAYHEM on display is awesome. This is a true Cyberpunk world and experience, unlike CyberGarbage 2077 made by CDPRekt.

    Got it for free on Epic games, finished and then bought it on steam to give them some $$. Then signed up to metacritic to rate it (since steam wouldn't let me) - should tell you how great it was.

    Great atmosphere, art, fast past and hard yet not frustrating combat. Pumping soundtrack that goes with the theme and feel perfectly. Only downside is a little short.

    Wonderful game if you are into this genre and looking for a game Hotline Miami-like. The atmosphere and soundtrack is cyberpunk pretty much.

    This is awesome top down shooter. I think the last top down shooter which I enjoyed as much was Dead Nation on PS3. This is not easy game to play and it will challenge you. You might have to try to kill the same boss over and over again, try different skills until you get it "right". The cyberpunk theme of this game resonates with me. The whole artistic aspect of this game is very wellThis is awesome top down shooter. I think the last top down shooter which I enjoyed as much was Dead Nation on PS3. This is not easy game to play and it will challenge you. You might have to try to kill the same boss over and over again, try different skills until you get it "right". The maps are linear and don't provide much in the way of exploration, following a simple corridor format that leads to an eventual boss fight at the end of each section.

    This game was clearly designed for casual audiences, as checkpoints are aplenty, the game itself isn't super difficult (on Normal at least), and there isn't really a whole lot going in the way of story besides "You've been wronged. Do something about it." The ending was rather underwhelming as well, with many unanswered questions just left hanging.

    Overall, this is an indie game that provides a good night or two of mindless entertainment to take your mind off things. It's not groundbreaking, but it's not bad either. It deserves a high 7 or a borderline 8, because of how although it doesn't have much in the way of content, it is still an incredibly polished game. It's a fun game to try if you can get it on sale.    … Expand

    The perfect dark violent cyberpunk experience. I've seen people complain about the story but it isn't even half-bad. And while the story isn't anything to write home about, the world-building, setting and art-style 100% make up for it and create a universe that feels rich, deep and beautiful. This game's only flaw is that I desperately want more of it. 10/10, absolute masterpiece. Can'tThe perfect dark violent cyberpunk experience.     Pese a que su ambientación y estilo gráfico llama un poco la atención, jugablemente no sorprende en absoluto, pues no incorpora ninguna novedad al género que no se haya utilizado hasta la saciedad.
    Sí que se podría destacar el diseño de algunos personajes secundarios o jefes de nivel.

    -Not fully voiced
    -Some boss are easier than trash mobs waves. The final boss was too easy for my taste despite having an awesome artistic direction an number of things to care about on the screen.

    Overall the gameplay itself is worth maybe a 6 (Cheap, Enjoyable but not memorable), but the artistic direction and soundrack are enough to earn one extra points each.    … Expand

    Ruiner is a solid twin stick shooter with amazing visuals. This is one of a very few games where i actually finished New Game+.
    Gameplay is fun, challenging and satisfying, there a lot of weapons and upgrades to use and most of them are very impactful and distinct.

    Main drawback for me was the story: it is very vague and doesn't make much sense.

    Ruiner is all about anarchy and carnage, dynamic and fast-paced battles, colorful futuristic cyberpunk world (which looks insanely good as game is made on Unreal Engine 4) and absolutely cute protagonist - a psychopat cyborg, seeking revenge to a powerful corporation for hacking him and    If you want some unstoppable action in amazingly well designed Cyberpunk world - seek no more.
    Ruiner is all about anarchy and carnage, dynamic and fast-paced battles, colorful futuristic cyberpunk world (which looks insanely good as game is made on Unreal Engine 4) and absolutely cute protagonist - a psychopat cyborg, seeking revenge to a powerful corporation for hacking him and kidnapping his brother.

    The setting, the music, the gameplay in this badass twin-stick shooter - everything supplements each other semlessly, building into endless songs of carnage, explosions, burnt bodies, cracked off heads, violent finishers, and romantic wandering the city districts meanwhile, speaking with characters in some kind of comix-style. Storylien is casual, but unlike some players seeing this as a flaw, I see it as a good thing to not distract you from insanely fun gameplay.

    Pistols, shotguns, rifles, flamethrowers, freezing rays and sonic beams as ranged weapons and pipes, katanas and energy swords as melee ones. Combined with huge amount of abilities and upgrades you can learn, your arsenal of destruction will never make your be bored even for a single second during the last minute of the game.

    Leveling and skills system deserves additional couple of words - while being a pure action game in general, Ruiner introduces some RPG elements - besides the classic skill points system, you need to have a decent level of so called "karma" to be able to unlock new skills and upgrades, which you can raise by eleminating the criminal gangs and their leaders.

    What I especially loved is that you can reset all your skills learned and get back your skill to re-distribute them in different way ANYTIME, even in the middle of a combat, simply calling the abilities menu. This simple features frees you from need of replaying the game multiple times to try different playstyles - you can instantly rebuild your class from an energy shield tank to a ferocious ninja in the middle of a battle.

    Ruiner gave me so much adrenaline and cyberpunk vibes - and personally for me, Ruiner himself is very similar to Ichise, protagonist of iconic cyberpunk anime called "Texhnolyze". Each tiniest detail of the game is blending perfectly, so you fell yourself as a direct continuation of protagonist, a spearhead of Ruiner's rage and fury. Hands down, one of the best twin-stick shooters made in a last few years and a great representative of cyberpunk action games, more then worth of your attention.    … Expand

    Ruiner takes a certain kind of player to enjoy it. It can be very masochistic to play it, you have to expect to die often. Normally I don’t enjoy this kind of game, and truth betold there were times where I didn’t enjoy playing the game, but overall it had a lot going for it. The soundtrack is awesome, the story is good (minus the cliffhanger ending), there are lots of ways to play by howRuiner takes a certain kind of player to enjoy it. It can be very masochistic to play it, you have to expect to die often. Normally I don’t enjoy this kind of game, and truth betold there were times where I didn’t enjoy playing the game, but overall it had a lot going for it. The soundtrack is awesome, the story is good (minus the cliffhanger ending), there are lots of ways to play by how you spend upgrade points, the lore is good and the gameplay is, for the most part, very fun. There are some wrinkles here and there but no game is perfect and not much is major.

    The gameplay itself is the games main strength. If I can give one piece of advice it is to never stop moving. The game is very fast paced and most of the time when I kept dying over and over in some spots I tended to notice I had stopped moving or slowed down. It is a very tough game but there are ways to help yourself. One of the best parts of the game is that you can reallocate your upgrade points any time you want. Some games don’t allow this and you come to find out ¾ of the way through the game finding out you wish you had of spent the points differently and now are screwed. Ruiner not only allows you to reallocate them it encourages it and I think in some cases expects it of you. More than once when I was having a tough time against a certain enemy I figured out what ability would do a better job against them and experimented finding it. There are a large variety of ranged and melee weapons to compliment as variety of play styles.

    As far as things that I didn’t like there wasn’t too much. Some enemies you have to face multiple times which I find sloppy and dislike usually. One specific enemy we have to beat 4 times, the last 3 of which are back to back to back. He just keeps getting revived and we have to keep doing it. I find boss fights who can be revived to be a cheap cop out and would rather prefer a smarter enemy. The ending also left a lot to be desired. I am not against cliffhanger endings but the best way I can put it is there could have been more closure than what we got.

    From a technical standpoint Ruiner was a mixed bag. There was no manual save option. I will give it credit that most of the checkpoints aren’t too far apart but nothing beats the option of manual saves. The game did crash to desktop once on me but other than that ran great. There were also 3 cinematics that only gave me a white screen and one cinematic that the text didn’t display at all. Luckily I was able to watch these on Youtube. The game had four AA levels, Vsync, ability to change difficulty, ALT-Tab support, four other graphics options to tinker with and support for framerates over 60. It did lack ambient occlusion, tessellation and refresh rate options though.

    Overall the game is well worth playing and was a good amount of fun. It got on my nerves a bit and had some annoying glitches but was worth the journey. I played on Linux and with a keyboard and mouse.

    The last time controls felt this clunky was with the original Resident Evil. W/A/S/D being northwest/southwest/southeast/northeast is incredibly bad design and this cannot be changed in settings.
