Combine all those things – the unique visuals, the packed world, and, above all else, the fun platforming – and you can see why I’m so fond of Ruffy and the Riverside. It’s a 3D platformer you need to play if you have any kind of interest in the genre, and it’s good enough that even if you don’t, you may want to give it a try.

A gorgeously presented modern twist on the classic 3D platformer, Ruffy and the Riverside is positively glowing with charm. Featuring a cavalcade of fun environmental puzzles that take advantage of its unique copy-and-paste “SWAP” mechanic, a delightful blend of hand-drawn spritework and rendered environments, and cheeky writing that makes you fall in love with its silly little characters, this is a perfectly lovely adventure with tonnes of heart.

Ruffy and the Riverside is a captivating puzzle-platformer that mixes charming storybook visuals with a crafty copy-and-paste transformation mechanic. The engaging puzzles, forgiving platforming, and creative approach to puzzle-solving make this a definite delight.

Ruffy and the Riverside is a 3D platformer from Zockrates Lab. It is inspired by platformers of the late 90s and early 2000s and wears that inspiration on its sleeve. It wears that inspiration well, though, and offers not only a game that fits on the shelf with its inspirations but one that is able to stand out as well. A short but fun time that is a must-play for any fan of the genre, or anyone that grew up with it.

This charming debut by Zockrates Laboratories stands out for its beautiful handcrafted visuals and a clever material-swapping mechanic that adds depth to platforming and puzzle-solving, although its limited freedom, weak enemy design, and chaotic level organization slightly hold it back from greatness.

Ruffy and the Riverside is definitely worth a play, with its intriguing story, charming cast of characters, engaging gameplay, and hours of content to go through. While it has its weaknesses like a UI that is hard to read at times or an overly excitable main character (terribly lovable though), they’re pretty minor gripes to what otherwise is a great, solid 3D action-adventure platformer for all ages.

Ruffy and the Riverside is pretty far from perfect, but it does feature some incredibly clever ideas, loads of puzzles and gorgeous visuals.

Ruffy and the Riverside is an enjoyable experience that, despite featuring fascinating copy-paste mechanics and puzzles that gets your brain going, has a forgettable storyline. Nonetheless, it's a great choice if you're looking for a quick and cute adventure that feels like a blast to the past.
