Jun 27, 2025Combine all those things – the unique visuals, the packed world, and, above all else, the fun platforming – and you can see why I’m so fond of Ruffy and the Riverside. It’s a 3D platformer you need to play if you have any kind of interest in the genre, and it’s good enough that even if you don’t, you may want to give it a try.

Featuring a cavalcade of fun environmental puzzles that take advantage of its unique copy-and-paste “SWAP” mechanic, a delightful blend of hand-drawn spritework and rendered environments, and cheeky writing that makes you fall in love with its silly little characters, this is a perfectly lovely adventure with tonnes of heart.

It wears that inspiration well, though, and offers not only a game that fits on the shelf with its inspirations but one that is able to stand out as well. A short but fun time that is a must-play for any fan of the genre, or anyone that grew up with it.

While it has its weaknesses like a UI that is hard to read at times or an overly excitable main character (terribly lovable though), they’re pretty minor gripes to what otherwise is a great, solid 3D action-adventure platformer for all ages.
