May 3, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is a wonderful, beautiful, crazy-hard-and-yet-not-at-the-same-time game. I can hardly stop playing it long enough to finish writing this review. It is hard to find flaws in this game without resorting to extreme nit-picking. Every aspect of it just oozes polish. The replayability is off the charts, even after you finally reach the ending. Even if roguelikes/rogue-lites or metroidvanias scare you for their reputation of being too hard for the average gamer, play this one. It absolutely deserves a spot right up there with the best of them, including its genre’s namesakes. You may have never heard of Cellar Door Games unless you played the original Rogue Legacy, but I truly and honestly believe you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Apr 28, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 has taken everything you loved from the first title and improved on everything, this is an incredibly addictive roguelike with customisation options to make it accessible for everyone no matter your skill level!
-
Apr 29, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 does everything a sequel should. It builds on what was already well done in its predecessor while reworking any ideas that weren't executed as well. Cellar Door Games has made something both franchise fans and newcomers should be extremely excited to play.
-
Apr 28, 2022I knew from my limited time with the Early Access version that Rogue Legacy 2 would be great, but I didn’t necessarily think it would go on to become one of the best games of 2022 and one of my favorite roguelite games. The competition is fierce, but it’s ready.
-
Jun 24, 2022This is the prime version of Rogue Legacy series; better, bigger and badder! Impossible not to fall in love with it.
-
Jun 21, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 brings a lot of new stuff to the table. This sequel tops pretty much everything that made the first game so good. You'll play it non-stop.
-
Jun 5, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 offers so many options when it comes to classes, upgrades, and ways to play it that anyone remotely open to the roguelite genre should check it out. I might have asked for a bit more direction in how to approach certain upgrade paths since the volume of choices can be borderline overwhelming, but it’s a minor quibble when everything else about the game is so fantastic. Rogue Legacy 2’s memorable world and overflowing personality will keep you invested until the very end.
-
Jun 1, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is a case of a perfect sequel to a very good game that was among those that shaped the indie scene back at the beginning of the last decade. As such, it's a game that oozes quality content and well-crafted gameplay.
-
May 28, 2022Don't look away, don't blink and don't miss that click. This can be said to both players who'll enjoy the fast-paced and excellent gameplay of Rogue Legacy 2, and players who'll might miss one of the best video games of 2022.
-
May 11, 2022Despite my nitpicks, every new discovery unveiled, skills obtained, and boss defeated wipes away any grief and replaces it with deep satisfaction. There’s a lot to clean up with the core progression systems to make the ramp from beginning to end escalate more evenly, but I’ve enjoyed most of my hours struggling through countless generations of my goofy little bloodline. I am overjoyed the entertaining heritage of this series remains firmly intact.
-
May 9, 2022Cellar Door Games' eagerly awaited rogue-lite follow-up is even more addictive than the original, and easily it's best yet.
-
May 6, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is a worthy heir to the 2013 original and solidifies the legacy left by one of the best examples of what a roguelike/Metroidvania is. Its difficulty may put some players off, but don't be fooled, Rogue Legacy 2 is highly addictive, deep and fun.
-
May 5, 2022Improved in every single aspect, Rogue Legacy 2 is not only a fantastic sequel, it's simply one of the best rogue-lites we've played in years.
-
May 5, 2022Addictive, varied, precise, coherent, relevant, Rogue Legacy 2 serves as the ideal sequel to the cult 2013 game that popularized rogue-lite. But more than doing better on absolutely every level (classes, weapons, traits), the Cellar Door Games studio is setting a new benchmark in the genre thanks to a clever mix of metroidvania and randomly generated levels. It's simple, the whole thing works like hell. Never frustrating, always giving the feeling of moving forward, constantly reviving the pleasure of the game with different powers and heroes to embody, Rogue Legacy 2 returns and marks the rogue-lite with a red iron. One of the best games of 2022.
-
May 4, 2022A fantastic sequel that not only improves upon its predecessor on every level, but also adds new ideas while keeping its essence untouched.
-
May 4, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is the perfect sequel of an already brilliant roguelite. It adds more depth and variety to a winning and enjoyable formula, exploring new ideas that were pretty absent in the preque. This time the game is both hard to master and easy to access: you don’t have to be a roguelite and metroidvania hardcore gamer to have a good time.
-
May 3, 2022An absolutely brilliant roguelite that takes the gameplay loop from the original game and utterly perfects it, taking notes from some of the best indie games around. A must have for any fan of the genre.
-
May 2, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is an enormous beast of an adventure, packed with fast combat, great platforming and endless replayability. It’s the kind of game that can be actively difficult to stop playing, with the spoils from one run opening up new opportunities in the next that can be difficult to resist checking out. While progress can be slow it rarely turns into a grind, with most hits and the inevitable death of the current hero feeling fair and avoidable if only you’d been just a bit more skilled. The generations come and go with each one sacrificing a member to castle and lands beyond, but the family obsession burns through the ages and makes it easier for the next descendant to go further and become stronger. It may take countless millennia to learn all the castle’s secrets, but seeing as it’s almost impossible to walk away from the quest, they’re bound to be unraveled some day.
-
Apr 28, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 honors its own legacy as the premiere roguelite thanks to its outstanding assortment of classes, diverse areas, and rewarding combat, putting it shoulder to shoulder among the very best of the genre.
-
Apr 28, 2022If you loved the first Rogue Legacy, then Rogue Legacy 2 is very likely to capture your heart as well. If you’re jumping into this series for the first time at Rogue Legacy 2, you’re in for one of the most fleshed out, fun, and varied rogue-lite action-platformers that the genre has to offer.
-
Apr 28, 2022Beyond the heavy grind, which is certainly purposeful, some gameplay features which feel a bit light, and a story that might as well not be there, Rogue Legacy 2 will quickly see itself enter the roguelite hall of fame as a shining example of why the genre works so well, and fittingly for a game about lineage, as a show of how far a sequel can improve upon its predecessor.
-
Apr 28, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is a gorgeous looking game with solid gameplay and a satisfying loop that will keep you playing for hours and hours.
-
Apr 28, 2022All of this makes Rogue Legacy 2 difficult to put down. The "one more run" effect is in full force as you choose yet another new heir to embark on another perilous journey. The introduction of distinct classes with their own unique weapons is a masterstroke that elevates this sequel by building on what was already a fantastic premise and satisfying roguelite loop. House Rules make it more palatable for a wider audience but also give players an opportunity to tailor the challenge to their liking, even if that means increasing the difficulty. The breadth of its biomes can sometimes induce backtracking as you search for the path forward, but this is a minor blemish on what is a fantastic game. Sacrificing your family tree has never felt so good.
-
May 10, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 shows a perfect combination of Rogue-lite and Metroidvania. The game is enjoyable for hundreds of hours thanks to both genres compensate each other's downside. While the improved exploring and battle systems added the completeness to the previous title, similar gameplay styles and monster designs can make it feel somewhat dull.
-
May 4, 2022A sublime addition to the Rogue Legacy family and one of the best roguelites yet.
-
May 1, 2022A sensationally encouraging indie gem that oozes charm. You determine the level of challenge yourself.
-
Apr 28, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 has solid gameplay that keeps players motivated to try and explore again and again. And it seems there' s a Castlevania in it, though it's random.
-
May 19, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is simply a bigger version of the original, with art style being the only significant difference. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a stellar roguelite with lots of natural charm and unique humor.
-
Apr 29, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 learns from its lineage and presents a superb sequel with a huge amount of depth of content. With so much replayability and meaningful progression, the game will have players hooked on its delightful gameplay loop for hours upon hours. Built with both style and substance, Rogue Legacy 2 is a tremendous success for fans of the original and the genre. It may not be a game for everyone, but for those willing to take up the challenge, a truly splendid journey awaits.
-
Jun 3, 2022While Rogue Legacy 2 is more of a refinement than a revolution, it nonetheless stands out as another must-have Roguelike, which is impressive given the ever-increasing supply of quality titles in the genre. Even if the plate is currently full, this is another tasty dish that is worth savoring when the craving comes calling again.
-
May 16, 2022All in all this is a sequel that builds on the original in impressive ways, and a timely reminder of why the rogue-lite genre has taken off in the way that it has.
-
May 6, 2022Combining a superb character generation system with challenging dungeon exploration, Rogue Legacy 2 is an engrossing blend of action-platforming and emergent storytelling.
-
Apr 28, 2022Rogue Legacy 2 is a sequel with great genes. The sense of progression constantly pulls your forward, all of the new mechanics and unlocks add a lot more depth and longevity to the game, and the combat and platforming feel just as solid as they did in the first game. It's an excellent roguelite that offers a lot of stuff to do as long as you're willing to put in the time.

May 9, 2022Undoubtedly, this sequel hid more surprises than we expected. [Recommended]
-
May 6, 2022There is a story, told mostly through notes left strewn around the environments, but I’d be lying if I said I paid any attention to it. The draw here is the gameplay loop, and if what I’ve described above sounds tedious to you, the game is absolutely not for you. Rogue Legacy 2 is a game about repeated failure, and only slow, incremental progress will lead to your success.
-
Apr 28, 2022Cellar Door adds more depth and plenty of new ways to enjoy its charming roguelike formula. [Eurogamer Recommmended]
-
May 5, 2022Rogue Legacy 2’s extremely random nature would crush a lesser game, but Cellar Door Games uses that pressure to create diamonds. Even if it’s occasionally frustrating, Rogue Legacy 2 refuses to ever let me be bored, and that’s more than enough to set it apart from the heap of roguelites that have followed in the original game’s wake. I’m 30 hours into Rogue Legacy 2, and I’m still discovering new toys to play with. But I still haven’t found another spoon.
-
Apr 28, 2022Now, I wouldn't say that Rogue Legacy 2 features an area or a weapon or otherwise that's utterly bonkers. There is nothing on selection here that's all too different from other roguelikes or metroidvanias. Still, it doesn't matter. All of its many, many, systems coalesce into a roguelike that'll give you a great big "one more run" itch. And it's an itch that rewards you, no matter how much you scratch.

Jun 3, 2022Best game I've played in ages. If you like Hollow Knight/other Metroidvania games, get this one. PS I never write reviews, this is really a gem.
