In Rogue Invader, YOU are the invader attacking the alien horde in this genre-flipping roguelite shooter. Game-play resembles 1-Bit black and white old-school games, with modern touches and HD graphics.

Twenty years ago, the Zenos began invading terran colonies, leaving a trail of death and tears in their wake. Terrans fought back, one planet at a time, while building a fleet to stab at the Zeno home-world.

You arrive with that fleet, just after a series of massive space battles in which all supply ships have been destroyed. You are left with a huge invasion army but no supplies to invade with other than one drop-pod, and one pistol.

Your standing orders are clear: END THIS WAR!

It would be silly to directly compare this to Returnal, given the enormous difference in scale, but I can’t help but be reminded of it. That sense of enjoying failing at the earliest stages, with a constant sense of improving as I do.

Rogue Invader can be a bit of a grind at first, since players will likely play through the opening area quite a few times before they can gather enough resources for a good loadout. Even players who put together a solid build will likely see their efforts swiftly undone by a sudden death. All the same, the game contains plenty of retro charm and challenge for players willing to push through the intense difficulty level.

4/10 TLDR: Tried to get into it, couldn't get into it. overall an unforgiving mess of a game. Long Version: The black and white graphics is4/10 TLDR: Tried to get into it, couldn't get into it. overall an unforgiving mess of a game. Long Version: The black and white graphics is cool, music and amount of items to craft but the game-play is just a dull, overly repetitive and overall unforgiving mess. You finally start grinding the first level enough for resources to build a decent rifle and lightning strikes try to kill you on top of everything else. You start a run and instantly get ate by a giant worm. You make it more than 50ft from the start point and get shot at by a sniper that can kill you in nearly one or two shots. If you die more than 15 or so times, a cannon starts destroying the ships that help deliver you air strikes, but who cares, you haven't even gotten any crafted by this point, because you were trying to craft other junk that got destroyed with you at the start point from a lightning strike while trying to hide behind cover from aliens shooting at you. Just a forewarning to people coming from Synthetik: LR like myself, it's nothing like it and fooled myself into thinking it would be similar based on the trailer. Expand
