It crushes the car-action competition. Rocket League draws inspiration from over a decade of games like Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, and Mario Kart's battle modes, and it spit-shines the pure driving and maneuvering parts to make its core gameplay loop feel like no driving game ever made before it.
  2. I love Rocket League. I love it because it’s a near-perfect example of game design; an invented sport that understands how to create feelings of triumph and tension, sometimes flipping the script in a few seconds of controlled chaos. That’s rare enough for me to recommend the game strongly to anyone who isn’t allergic to online play but there’s more: Rocket League takes place in a world I want to be a part of. It’s a place where sport is carnival, the playing field is level (no paid-for boosts or buffs here, just cosmetic unlocks), and competition doesn’t require blood, sweat or tears.

Most fun game of the year, easily.

It's my GOTY above Witcher, Ark, or anything else. The replayability (it's easy to pick up but quite difficult to truly master), the fact it really does replicate the chaos of what an actual indoor soccer game feels like (something no other sports game has truly done with their sport choice). Best $20 I've spent on a game in a couple years. Gets even more fun with friends, even with server issues I don't care, the product is too fun.

Oh, and a word to the wise: Just because you can hit it, doesn't mean you should! (just like RL soccer)

The requirement of an Epic Games account is HORRIBLE, you have to agree to a ToS they don't even give you the ability to read. The tutorialThe requirement of an Epic Games account is HORRIBLE, you have to agree to a ToS they don't even give you the ability to read. The tutorial treating veterans like noobs is INSULTING. The new UI is disgustingly UGLY. The loss of ~100fps on a Ryzen 5 1600x and gtx 2070 super after this update is UNACCEPTABLE. I've owned and played this game for 5 years with 1400 hours and the appreciation I get is a title that says EST. 2015 while you f*** up everything else I loved about this game? F*** Epic. I'm DISAPPOINTED in Pysonix. Not to mention the fact I paid for this game and without any compensation whatsoever they are gonna give it to millions of others for free. That part isn't even so bothersome to me, what pisses me off is that single skins cost MORE than the entirety of the base game did, WTF is that?? I have over 600 blueprints in my inventory that add up to well over $1000, THAT IS DISGUSTING! Full Review »
