Few strategy games this year have offered so much in the way of enjoyable story and gameplay.
-
It combines clever missions, interesting character abilities, and a smidgen of resource management into an absorbing game that fans of the strategy will be playing for quite some time.
-
The game has it all: the lush surroundings will create a perfect atmosphere of medieval England, and together with the well animated characters they will make you feel a part of Robin Hood's adventures.
-
Robin Hood gets its subject matter right, and with plenty of playability, storytelling, and atmosphere.
-
While it might not appeal to the strategy gamer who enjoys throwing masses of units into frenzied combat, it is an enjoyable change of pace from most other games in the genre and can also be enjoyed by those who like puzzle games.
-
The sword combat is simple to come to grips with, the addition of recruits, Robins base, and non-linear approach (after level 2) are good features that make it a deeper game than most comparable games even though the engine is showing its age, theres no tutorial, and the difficultly level can be entirely frustrating.
-
An enjoyable outing in an historic time, Robin Hood offers solid tactical combat and delightful animation.
-
New features such as resource management and the non-linear mission path [are] great additions to the genre.
-
Computer Gaming WorldIt's the perfect setting for the players' own stories of daring rescues, bold ambushes, and swashbuckling high adventure. [Mar 2003, p.88]
-
While Robin Hood isnt a bad game, it doesnt match up very well with "Desperados" or the "Commandos" games, and it seems curiously flat and unimaginative, especially after the slick, over-the-top feel to "Desperados."
-
The sound in Robin Hood is also excellent. The music is fitting and I love the way the soldiers taunt, "Why that doesn't hurt at all" when you strike them ineffectually.
-
PC GamerAn enjoyable squad-based game... Think of it as "Commandos" for the tights-wearing set. [Feb 2003, p.84]
-
The problem I quickly noticed in the game is that it takes forever to kill a knight or a strong footman.
-
Computer Games MagazineFor all Robin Hood has going for it, it's constantly undone by one fatal flaw: the game cannot distinguish between challenge and frustration. [Feb 2003, p.78]
-
Its missing some key things like full 3D support for the maps and a more intuitive control interface that will prevent it from being well loved by most gamers.
