Not a perfect Tomb Raider for me, but definitely much better than the last one. For me, more puzzles and tombs and it would be the perfect Tomb Raider. I hope the next one will continue this good evolution, and will be more like the old Tomb Raider.

I like the Game VERY MUCH.

Not only it looks outstanding. It was a fun experience with an okay-good story. I also really enjoy the DLCs especially endurance mode, which kept you for a bit longer than the actual game

Great game. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe the Tomb Raider reboot formula is great. Great production values, nice story, good cutscenes and action. Game is action packed, i was never bored once, until i completed it. Which is kinda rare nowadays for me, after more than 25 years of hardcore gaming experience.

In my opinion, it is somewhat short, and the port could have used more

In my opinion, it is somewhat short, and the port could have used more polish, that is why this gets a 9 and not a 10. But make no mistake, this is a very good game. If you can run this, try it. One of the best action games of the year, if not the best!

Brilliant gameplay, absolutely amazing graphics, decent acting, great animations, superb atmosphere, interesting story, no evidence of a console port, Lara's character is excellent, no bugs found, no crashing.
This game is easily in my top 10, probably the most polished game I've played, very well done :)
Almost gave it a ten but my only gripe is that after being spotted I can't hide

I liked the 2013 game better. This one had great graphic and a decent plot. But, oh did the parkour get tedious. So much so that I was in the temple and I got to the point where I had enough and just deleted the game before ending it. The side missions became boring as well. I'm more of a FPS guy.

Although still a gourgeous game, Rise of The Tomb Raider takes itself too seriously storywise, reminding me of Underworld days (which is not good).

Close to the ending Lara has so many gadgets and mechanics that they start to overlap one another, making controls complicated and a bit clunky. It also doesn't evolve much from its former itineration: Lara is still a war machine

It also doesn't evolve much from its former itineration: Lara is still a war machine disguised as a puppy and supporting characters are as forgettable as the cast from the last one. Gameplay feels old and a bit outdated, as if it was developed as a last-gen title.

Great for fans, whoever enjoys third person shooters and liked the last Tomb Raider, but don't expect much of an evolution in all aspects of this game.

With this iteration of the Tomb raider franchise they managed to bring something fresh and nice to the table, the game is rich graphically and the maps are just the of the right size to allow some exploration without it becoming too tedious, i liked it.

Very well done game that has a decent story, lot's of action and outstanding graphics!
Felt a lot like watching a action movie where you get to control the main character.
Game play is super smooth and glitch free, the have added a grappling wire you can throw to hook onto things for even better maneuverability. and also you can shoot arrows into some of the buildings wood and climb

I'd just like to first say how much I love the voice actress of Lara, she does an incredible job of bringing her to life and honestly she's a big reason as to why I've enjoyed the last two games so much, she really does knock it out of the park and she's not alone, the voice work across the board was solid apart from Jonah who I personally didn't like. The story itself was also interestingI'd just like to first say how much I love the voice actress of Lara, she does an incredible job of bringing her to life and honestly she's a big reason as to why I've enjoyed the last two games so much, she really does knock it out of the park and she's not alone, the voice work across the board was solid apart from Jonah who I personally didn't like. The story itself was also interesting and kept me engaged and didn't hold the voice actors back at all.

One of the games other big strengths is the climbing/platforming, I really feel it does this better than Uncharted mainly due to how many tools Lara has at her disposable, it was nice to see Uncharted 4 build upon their system by "stealing" the porous wall mechanic from Tomb Raider, it's a little thing but it adds a lot, and Rise has lots of these little mechanics that keep the gameplay fresh throughout. I would say Uncharted 4 definitely edged out Rise when it came to gunplay though, especially AI which was particularly awful in Rise, I was only playing on normal difficulty so maybe it's better on higher difficulties, but the enemies would just stand there after a friend had been headshot with their hand in the air while I primed another arrow which was really silly. Another area I felt UC4 edged out Rise was "epic moments", these set pieces are often my favourite things about both series and Rise just didn't have any, it had some cool moments but nothing truly wow, the Definitive Edition definitely had its moments and I was waiting for Rise to have its all the way until the end but it never came.

My biggest annoyance personally was performance though, this is the first game where I really struggled to maintain 1080p/60fps without drops, having to drop to the medium preset with 16x AF and high detail being the only variance from the preset. The game started off great, no performance issues at all on very high settings but it got worse and worse as the game went on, especially any zone outside just tanked the frame rate on higher settings. And the weird thing about it was most of the time nothing was happening, it was just running through the world or even just panning the camera. I'm running a 3570k @ 4.3GHz, MSI GTX 970 4G heavily overclocked, 8GB DDR3, SSD on Windows 10, this machine runs Witcher 3 at 1080p/60 without a dropped frame on a mix of high/ultra so I really feel it's an optimisation issue more so than a lack of power on my part. I really didn't like having to dumb down the graphics but performance is always my priority, I just don't usually have to sacrifice so much to achieve it (I really missed having Purehair enabled which looked great compared to Hairworks IMO).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphically one of the most impressive games I've ever seen. You'll need a pretty high end rig to enjoy max settings. The platforming is phenomenal as well as the stealth combat however the gunplay becomes exhausting near the end when you just fight hordes of enemies. That's when the game is at its weakest. I'm a big fan overall though and it's one of the few games I've beaten this year. Expand

Tomb Raider 2013 is one of my most favorite games ever.. Needless to say I was excited to play the sequel..
Unfortunately, they dropped the gritty tone of the original to chase uncharted….
Lara sets out to uncover a mystery her father was mocked for..
This game starts out in the Serbian mountains and the majority of the game keeps you in the snow covered mountains…
And of course there are bad guys after the same artifact you are..
    So youre not alone…
The tomb raider reboot introduced a crafting system which has been brought back, but this time feels much more in the background..
You can gather items and hunt animals for materials to craft bandages and upgrade your weapons…
But none of this is forced…
And much like the past game you upgrade your weapons at a campfire, which also acts as a fast travel point and a place for you to spend your skill points as you level up…
Rise of the tomb raider feels much more linear this time around..
The world doesn’t really feel as connected as the original…
Its for the most part a linear path that you traverse with climbing aces and ropes..
The game feels much more like assassins creed this time around because of this…
It gives uncharted 4 a run for its money with how much climbing you actually do here…
As well as the series as a whole during the few epic chase sequences qhich are easily some of my favorite moments in the entire game…
When you aren’t climbing there are a few openish sections you can explore but the mistake the original made is back as well with secrets being locked off until you progress further in the story to unlock the needed tool and come back...
This is a cheap tactic to prolong gameplay hours…
but more so its frustrating and ironically discourages exploration…
Why look around when 1 in 2 areas is going to tell me to come back later?
I might as well just ignore everything and run forward..
This is what I ended up doing..
Fortunately rise of the tomb raider is gorgeous, and traversing the parquor sections and solving environmental puzzles old fans will be happy to see returned outside of just being secrets is a great deal of fun…
And the 3rd person shooter combat feels decently nice, its not uncharted good, but its passable.. you have the option to stealth or shoot your way through most sections… you can also dodge attacks and counter….
The puzzle pieces are all here for this to be a masterpiece of a game…
except theyre missing the center piece… the one thing that makes all of this come together and work for uncharted in such a beautiful way…
    And that’s character…
Theres not a single well written character in this entire game…
    This includes lara…
The original this wasn’t so.. the game felt so real and you felt so vulnerable.. not only having to survive enemies but the environment.. I cared the entire way.. here however youre just a girl Nathan drake with 0 personality…
Which ultimately makes this feel like just a generic third person shooter experience…
There was no reason to stray away from the unique gritty adventure they had going on with tomb raider 2013, but they did and the feel of the game suffered for it
And Im not sure if this story was game of thrones inspired, but it felt pretty copy and paste making every turn so predictable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if again the characters had character, but they didn’t.. I wasn’t invested in the story at all…
The PS4 20 year celebration version also comes with all of the dlc…
Endurance which can be played either single or co op where youre tasked with surviving by eating food and gathering resources.. Very fun idea, but the challenges for the trophies wont unlock unless they are an active challenge, which if youre trophy hunting kills all reason to continue if there are no more trophy related challenges to do…
cold darkness which is a stealth zombie dlc where you have to infiltrate a research base for a chemical weapon
as well as Baba Yaga and Blood ties which ill be reviewing on their own as they are each about an hour long expansion with their own stories..
While I do wish the characters were better written in Rise of The Tomb Raider, I still feel is a quality experience, well worth your money if youre a fan of action adventure…
I Give Rise of The Tomb Raider..
    an 8/10

Awesome game. I did not want it to end. But sadly it did. Completed the "main" story after 22 hours played (69% total), not rushing anything. Will play for 100%. This is rare for me, as I often lose interest after main story is completed. I hope for alot of DLC maybe even expansions. I did not get the Season Pass yet.

It isn't really better than the first title and it doesn't really revolutionise anything from the last game but it's a solid entry. It's more of the same goodness that the previous title offered. If you liked the previous title, you will like this game, just don't expect much more.

This sequel sees Lara setting off on another adventure to stop an evil organization from getting their hands on a powerful artifact. This is the Lara we have been waiting to see. She is stronger and more independent building off the experiences she had in the previous game. The sequel does a good job of expanding upon Lara's abilities and skills. You have your complement of weapons from the first game that can be upgraded finding salvage. You also can craft new weapons by finding weapon parts. There are plenty of collectibles and relics to find.

The most notable and appreciated addition to the game is the number of tombs. Crystal Dynamics have made good on the criticism of the lack of tombs in the 2013 game. These tombs are entirely optional though they do offer some unique new skills for Lara to use. The Tombs themselves are fairly straightforward and only offer a mild challenge. Many of the puzzles aren't particularly difficult which is a bit of a disappointment.

I also find myself wishing the game wasn't quite so linear. This is compounded by the fact that it seems like the devs felt it was necessary to put white paint on climbable surfaces. Fortunately there are challenges and side missions that can offer some deviation. The other thing I find irritating is that sometimes the map is sluggish to reload.

In terms of graphical fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the best looking games on the market today. Nixxes once again shows that they are capable of making a competent PC port. In fact to call it a port isn't doing the game justice. There has been considerable effort made to make the PC version feel like a proper PC release. PC users can enjoy a variety of options like sun soft shadows, HBAO+, Purehair, and high resolution textures. It needs to be said that this game is very pretty and as such it can be quite demanding.

You will need at least 4gb of Vram to use Very High textures. The game also seems to be CPU intensive so folks with older i3's may find some difficulty. You will also want to make sure you have at least 8gb of ram. I run the game on a modest GTX 750 ti with 2gb of GDDR5 vram. I also run the game on an i5 with 8gb of total ram. Due to my vram I had to turn texture resolution down to medium. Prior to the latest patch I experienced some stuttering in certain areas. After the recent patch those instances haven't been as common. I run the game at 1050p so be mindful that it will be difficult to hit 60 fps at 1080 unless you have a high end GPU. Dropping your resolution to 900 or even 720p may yield a higher more consistent frame rate. Load times will also be a bit longer if your using a mechanical drive instead of a SSD. I highly recommend this game if you enjoyed the 2013 reboot. But be mindful of your system specs and that you may need to do a bit of tweaking to get an optimal experience.

I usually prefer the stealth route, and despite it not being the focus it still feels fairly fun. Combat is engaging without being too easy or supremely difficult.

There are many platforming segements that while visualing appealing are typically on rails and you have little choice in how to go about climbing things and almost no chance of failure. If the game has one pitfall it's this. The platforming is fairly easy.

The game is strongest in it's challenge tombs, which oddly despite the game being called "Tomb Raider" are not integral to the games completion or where the plot pulls you, but solving the tombs puzzles is always satisfying and usually involves a bit of thinking.

The game is a worthy purchase if you liked the first one or enjoy adventure games with a lot of potential exploration. There's definitely a lot of fun and hours to spend in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

With its breathtaking scenery of snowy mountains and hidden temples, it will keep you glued to the screen for hours and hours. The cut-scenes, though frequent and on the longer side, never tend to bore the player, but rather immerse him in a great and exciting story. The content is extensive and there's plenty to see and do, though the puzzles do tend to get a bit repetitive towards the later stages.
The gameplay is solid, though some aspects could be improved. Especially the melee fighting comes out as a bit "clunky" at times. Furthermore, the collection of scrolls and scribblings, secret coin caches, relics and other such junk that you find lying around never really makes that big of a difference. Supplies and ammunition are plentiful, negating the need for frequent crafting, though you do need some special resources in order to craft certain utilities.
The gameplay isn't too linear due to the fact that there are many chances for side quests which bring some bonuses, but are not obligatory for normal progression. The down side is that the bonuses you unlock usually become available at a later stage of the game anyway, which means you'll only really benefit from them for a short amount of time. This does however ensure that new game mechanics, which become available throughout the game, bring a new twist, resulting in a better gameplay experience.
The game also tends to vary in its pace, which was a nice surprise for me. You have your usual stealth assassination parts, but there are also parts where a firefight is necessary in order to progress. You'll also be thrust into sudden action with events such as collapsing bridges or falling rocks, which seem to come out of nowhere while you are peacefully climbing your way through the game.
Overall the game is a great experience. It's main problems lie in gameplay mechanics and the usual lag and drop in FPS. 8/10

Rise feels more like a Tomb Raider game than the 2013 reboot, which is good, but at the same time still retains most of it's overly streamlined game designs, which isnt as good from where i'm standing.

The graphics quality is still strong even in 2021, strengthened by an impressive art design in and around the ancient historical environments that pack a great amount of detail. Lara herself is more mixed looking, her facial overhaul makes her look kinda generic even compared to her 2013 self.

Performance on PC can be problematic, in open world areas there is quite a lot of stutter, freeze ups and big fps drops, especialy in the Soviet gulag area, while in linear sections game runs mostly fine.

Gameplay wise, the exploration in Rise feels more fleshed out than in TR 2013. While tomb raiding sadly remains 'optional', these tombs luckily offer way more depth and personality than their TR 2013 counterparts, however they still lack in the department of satisfying puzzle solving, as they are still relatively simplistic, and the rewards for solving tombs...rudimentary skills, not some cool relics. A new addition are the Crypts, which are like mini optional tombs which add some welcome variety. I wasnt a big fan of the bigger hub areas, they felt more like a chore to explore and traverse, i would've much prefered a more linear level design over them. Not to mention once you reach a big hub area, it breaks up the pacing of the game's main story, creating a feeling of disconnection between it's urgency and leasureness of Lara binging side activities. The progression locking of some areas disappointingly returns too, the very first Siberian area you land in has places that you cant reach early on, like why should i back track there late in the game ? The optional game modes were wasted time and resources in my opinion aswell, that could've been put to better use by expanding on campaign or story DLC.

Core gameplay remains pretty much the same as in 2013 title, gunplay feels rather floaty with little feel, you cant take cover manually, stealth is done for you by the game aswell, all this hand holding is just so irritating. And to my deep disappointment, the dual pistols, that were teased in 2013 game's ending, are no where to be found. Some guns still sound really weak. For some dumb reason you're not allowed to remove silencers anymore once the game applies them. There are now more skills and weapon upgrades to unlock, but i dont get why they made Lara unlock some of the same skills she already learned in 2013 game. Several of the skills i found either rudimental or making the game way too easy for me. Some of the weapon upgrades make guns look goofy, sadly they cant be removed once applied, just like silencers. Platforming sadly remains pretty simplified, and at times glitchy, leading you to death at not your own fault. None of Lara's classic advanced acrobatic moves return either sadly, apart from an added ability to swing across select places with a hook. Swimming makes a return, but it too mechanically somehow feels less satisfying than in CD's earlier Tomb Raider games. Atleast this time Lara has more clothing options compared to 2013, most of whom are pretty boring still, and sadly there are still no classic outfits, apart from a few low polygon classic Lara skins. What is CD's problem with their reluctance to give modern Lara classic series outfits ?

The story and writing had their ups and downs. The duo of the main villains come off as pretty generic and cliche, but a bit deeper they do reveal some depth, especially Konstantin's sister. The 'relatable' and 'real' approach to Lara's character still conflicts with what you see and experience, like in the 2013 reboot, she's forced to survive...again...in one moment, she's a 1 woman army at another, a melodramatic weeper the next. Maybe it's just me, but i think this 'humanization' attempt of Lara Croft just isnt working that well, instead Crystal D should just embrace her larger than life legacy as a character, Lara should be Lara, not an imitation of a Naughty Dog kind of a protagonist. The chase after the city of Kitezsh, the Divine Source and mystery behind the Prophet was handled pretty well atleast, and exploring Croft family's history was fun aswell, enhanced by the Blood Ties DLC. With the Baba Yaga DLC also being a worthy addition to campaign's narrative. The ending of the game however felt quite anti-climactic, the whole end game felt like it was redone from the 2013 game, as you were again climbing a towering structure to reach the end boss and waves of goons. One of the better narrative aspects were the side stories and lore discovered through collectible documents, recordings and artefacts, they added a good amount of depth to the world building. Though it was weird how those documents and recordings just lay out in the open, some managing to survice for hundreds of years in less than optimal climate.

    Good game overall.

A great sequel to the GOTY of 2013. Excellent game in all fronts. Great production values, a nice story, great gameplay. Very, but VERY underrated on metacritic. It is not GOTY of 2015 (That would be Witcher 3) or 2016 on PC (that would be Deus Ex Mankind Divided or Dishonored 2), but it comes close. Great game.

I gave a 10/10 to tomb raider 9 (2013), but I am really disappointed with the successor. Ths graphics is still top level. Plot and storytelling is good. The biggest issue is the bugs. Tons of guns to unlock, new movement or fighting mechanic introduced every few cutscenes, extended skill tree, and plethora of things to collect. The scope of the things to do in this game seems enormous. Of course, it has its downsides, as some of the collectibles and activities seemed rather unnecessary.
Let me tell you, one thing this game definitely stands out with is the environmental design. Every new area you enter is a treat to the eye, every landscape is colossal, dramatic, and has its own idea. Same goes for the tombs you can enter - while in the 2013 reboot every tomb looked sort of the same, this time, each time you encounter a tomb is an opportunity to gaze at the massive work done by the artists.
If you want to play any of the new Tomb Raiders, just skip the first one and play this, trust me.

    + beautifully designed landscapes
+ plenty of collectibles and things to do
+ more tombs with each having its own idea
+ characters and writing done better this time...

    - ...but the story is still a little bland...
    - ...and a bit dragged out in the middle
    - sometimes - too much collectibles
    - if you're an achievement hunter, good luck, there's an achievement for virtually every thing you can do in this game, not all of which are that fun, a total of 143.

The first thing i don't like about this game was the pace. This game is too slow if compared with the ps1 and ps2 games. They basically have transformed Lara from a badass who run and gun everyone in her eye sight, to a scared average girl who needs to hide in bushes and stealth kill the enemies
The exploration in this game is not good also, as you have too many boring things to do like:
-Hunting animals (that's so **** boring)
    -Ton of collectables to catch
-Exploring tombs that the majority looks all the same
    -Boring side quests
The story of this game begins nice, but also fall shortly after a few hours, when stupid things starts to happens. A lost village hidden in a mountain that doesn't feel like is hidden at all? Seriously? How in the **** hell trinity with a ton of helicopters can't see it? That's so **** stupid.
And now the worst of all things: The anti USSR sentiment in this game.
This game has a load of **** about USSR, and that's funny because there is a lot of propaganda about Lara Croft being a strong women representation in games and they forgot that USSR was the first country to give equal rights to men and women in the world. Before Soviet Union women can't go work like men and because of this i will give this game no more than a 0 out of 10

Expand

I was just delighted with the first part and expected that the second part would be at least no worse. I really liked the beginning. Of the advantages, I immediately want to note the graphics, which, compared to the first part, has stepped far ahead. Otherwise...either Crystal Dynamics did not take any risks and decided to go down the beaten path, which led the first part to success, or they were simply unable to come up with something fundamentally new, different from the first part. Again a mythical legend, again an expedition to nowhere, which is in distress and again an isolated society. Lara herself is no longer a young, sweet and inexperienced girl who wants to feel sorry for after every new scratch she received. She is already a fat, cheeky, seasoned woman of Balzac's age, which, in my personal opinion, is not a plus for the whole game. The game mechanics are the same as in the 2013 game, but with minor innovations. Again, this is a plus or minus, judge for yourself. It is now possible to interact with NPCs and take secondary quests from them, which are rewarded with various items of equipment. The problem is that the rewards are very useful, but all these quests are terribly tedious and boring, like "Bring, give, kill 10 squirrels", in the style of antediluvian MMORPGs. At the initial stage of familiarization with the game, it is even more or less interesting to do this, it is a novelty, but it abruptly begins to bother after 2-3 such quests. Even before the game went on sale, after learning that the events would take place in the Siberian region of Russia, and the plot was based on an old Russian legend, I was very happy and hoped that the game would introduce people from all over the world to Russian culture and mythology. And here lies the biggest disappointment. All that we learn about the thousand-year-old Russian culture and mythology from this game is GULAGs, GULAGs and GULAGs again. As in the first part, documents, notes and audio recordings of various characters are scattered around the locations, from which we can learn details about various events and characters. Here, all the documents and audio recordings are endless lamentations about heartless Russian barbarians, robbing, oppressing, snatching babies from their hands, stealing women and children to work in the mines, and so on and so forth. There are absolutely no artifacts, locations or events that would introduce players to Russian culture or history in the game. Russian have endless sickles and hammers on the walls, incomprehensible inscriptions in Cyrillic, mistakes in Russian words that the Russians themselves can't read, cage beds in which the Russians kept their slaves, endless devastation and despondency. And there is also the opportunity to destroy the flags of the Soviet Union, just like the Nazi ones, well, and get a reward for it. The Overton window is working, guys. But the bottom was broken by another mini-task - to destroy posters "promoting Soviet cosmonautics" and shoot targets with the state emblem of Russia painted on them. After that, it became frankly disgusting to play. As a result, we get another cheap, propaganda cranberry in the style of the Cold War. This is not just some shortcomings due to the absolute lack of any knowledge about Russia, except for the fact that the population of the West was drummed into their heads from school. This is outright chauvinism and xenophobia with knowledge of the matter. The scum from Crystal Dynamics, and they can not be called otherwise, should not have tried to recoup the space race that the Americans lost to pieces, but redirect their hatred, anger, intolerance, xenophobia, chauvinism towards Russia and Russians, into energy and enthusiasm for creating a realistic and informative game that will bring people from all over the world closer, erasing stupid stereotypes, fears and making this world a little better and brighter, introducing people from all over the world, with one of the most ancient and rich cultures in the history of mankind - Russian. Very good Game which advanced from the last TR. Mouse and Keyboard Controlls work perfect. Story is ok and the Animations of Humans and Animals are very good. The Graphics on max settings are insane. This Game looks absolutly stunning. Best Visuals since Witcher 3. The Level of Detail on Lara and the World is Top of the Line.

I had no crashes, but after some hours of Gameplay it start to lag a bit (980Ti 16GB Ram) So a restart after 3-4 hours is not a bad idea.

The Game is a good 8, but the unbelievable good Graphics made it a 9.

    Overall a Top Game.

Excellent gameplay, engaging story, brilliant atmosphere and looks gorgeous. The only few criticism I can mention are: you need a lot of backtracking if you like to complete everything and the story is very predictable. The pros far outweight these though and to me it is easy a 10/10, well made and genius.

Really cool Gameplay and Story, BUT it's soooooo buggy, even today in 2019. The Game crashes every several minutes, when it's loading, saving or if you want to make a quick journey....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Prepare to embark on a wild adventure with Lara Croft in the latest addition to the Tomb Raider series! With stunning graphics and a wide range of skills to master, this game promises to keep you entertained for hours. The best part? The fast-action sequences have been reduced, so you can take a breather and appreciate the beauty of the game.

However, be warned: the game's storyline stinks worse than the cheese you forgot in your fridge for three months. It reeks of British supremacy and Lara's questionable moral compass. For instance, when an inmate asks for her help, she turns a blind eye until he offers something big in return. Come on, Lara, where's your humanity? Also, Lara doesn't seem to give a rat's tail about her friend Jacob's injuries, but god forbid anything happens to her white buddies.

Speaking of Jacob, his character is poorly written, and Lara treats him like a slave. We don't need another movie about a white savior, thank you very much.

And don't even get us started on the looting. It's ironic, considering the UK's history, but apparently, Lara doesn't give two hoots about cultural sensitivity. She's too busy destroying archaic buildings and adding to her collection of shiny objects.

Finally, the game's true villain may surprise you. Lara's hypocrisy shines through in her attempt to persuade Anna not to do the very things she herself has been doing. Talk about a lack of self-awareness.

Overall, while the gameplay is enjoyable, the game's cultural insensitivity and questionable storyline leave a sour taste in our mouths. Crystal Dynamics and Microsoft studios should seriously consider their lack of cultural diversity and respect for other civilizations in future games.

Full Disclosure: This is the first Tomb Raider game I have ever played, so I have no comparison to previous games. That being said, I enjoyed it very much.

The story and plot play out too predictably, the platforming could be frustrating, and the combat quickly got repetitive - but it all came together so well no one part was enough to make it anything less than a great game. I do

I do have some minor complaints, though: Extreme Survivor mode is extremely unforgiving, the first two levels where they TEACH YOU THE CONTROLS have ZERO save points. Missed that last jump? Enjoy starting back at the beginning, 15 minutes ago. Fortunately I got the hang of them pretty quickly, where the first level took me 5-7 tries, the second took me 3. I rarely missed jumps after that.

Also Laura seems to get hurt in nearly every cut scene... only to walk it off within 15 seconds. C'mon.

The crafting was fun, but pretty bare bones. Once you get the shotgun, none of the animals are even remotely challenging. To avoid being hit by the bear, the most dangerous animal, all you have to do is spam C and then shoot it repeatedly after it swings at you. Rinse and repeat.

My last minor quibble is the character Jonah. He was incredibly annoying, but fortunately he's only there for the first and last bits.

It is basically an updated version of it's predecessor - and that is not a bad news. Rise of the Tomb Raider corrects every bad aspect of Tomb Raider from 2013 and adds many new things. Locations are open, there are many easy side quests that can help players with leveling up and getting experience. Graphics also seem to be improved compared to the last instalment of the series.

I think this one is a bit better than the first game. It's fun, the graphics are pretty good even though my PC is a bit old. The story could have been better, hopefully they improve that with the next game. It's a solid game with a mediocre plot.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is an amazing game, for someone who played the "Tomb Raider (2013)" on Xbox 360/Xbox One. This newest one is even better. Sadly though it does have it's flaws. It also got to a point where, I don't know if it was a bug or not, but later on in the game it got very CPU heavy. CPU heavy to the point where the 'lowest' settings still made the game unplayable. Other than those core issues, the game is beautiful on High settings, I didn't push it for Ultra.

While getting side-tracked, lost, dying, completing tombs and doing side quest missions/challenges, I finished the game with around 87% done in 21.4 hours of Steam playtime. So it will definitely give you your monies worth and at a sale price of $11.99, kinda hard to beat that.

As a friendly tip, if you are an achievement hunter, I suggest you read and go through all the achievements. Because some of them require you to do them before you beat the game. Tomb Raider is one of those game series that I will always try to get 100% completion, I don't know why, it just feels good. I know for fact that I'll be hoping back into the game to get that 100% achievement. I personally can't wait to get "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" on sale and play that Tomb Raider next.

    -----

Edit: At 25 hours exactly of Steam playtime, I 100% the game.

    I finished the game.

Rope sound is not looped, if you are sliding on a long rope you hear that the sound starts over

At the end of the campaign some soldiers were bugged (the basic stance while they were meant to climb on wall). After 10 months of the release date? Come on :)

The story did not get to me still. Uncharted FTW. Visuals and sounds (beside bugs) on the other side are amazing. Optimization is great so the performance was all the time 60 FPS with almost max settings @ FullHD.

The gameplay is really fine, you have bow, pistol, riffle and shotgun so this combined with perk system and weapon upgrades gives quite enough diversity in combat and how you approach each situation.

If you played a previous installment, this is pretty much the same with new setting to explore and new story, witch few changes here and there (mainly upgrade and perk system are a bit better here.

However, I can't give more than 7 because as I already mentioned, the story is a bit cliche and a lot of gameplay time is being pushed thru collectibles and there is a lot of them. The worst part is that collectibles require constant backtracking since you can't access some without some tools which you get after progressing much further into main story. This really destroys flow of the game. Second complaint about collectibles - they are nearly meaningless (very small benefit from certain collectibles). I don't understand how lazy developers became, because you can make even basic content filler, such as collectibles really fun.

    Pros:
    - Visuals
    - Setting
    - Gameplay and presentation

    Cons:
    - Cliche story
    - dull and uninspired content filler - collectibles.

Whilst to my mind this is bland and Pavlovian in its own right its made worse by questionable design and poor ports that create software glitches in the key combinations making progressing the game frustrating and in some cases, as I found out in the first title, simply impossible.

I am slightly disappointed with this game and I am surprised with the high ratings in famous game magazines. It seems developers tried to make a lot of good work, but I almost couldn't finish this game especially because of boring story, characters, a lot of cloned enemies and sometimes crowded environment. I've played every TR game since first one and I think Rise of the Tomb Raider…

The visuals are really nice - same is true for sounds and voice acting. It takes everything that it had going in the original reboot game and adds some more without breaking anything.

The story is good and interesting. Nothing mind blowing but consistent and fitting the game very well. Lara is a bit more mature than in the previous game which is a good step up from the teen she was in the previous version. The story takes place for the most part in the mountainous region of Syberia with Lara on the quest to discover a lost city of Kitezh to in a way fulfil her fathers legacy in finding the city. On the way she gets tangled up with a mysterious organisation called trinity that's after pretty much the same thing.

The game mechanics are quite the mixture - apart from standard climbing and otherwise traversing the obstacles you get an array of optional tombs, hunting, fighting, crafting, and resource gathering going on. While all of them are well executed - they do feel a bit disjointed from the main story line. There are times when although you should be going into certain spot quickly but you go explore optional tomb and for a while forget about the enemies that are pursuing your allies at the moment. This happens frequently enough to be a bother if you invest heavily in the story but still don't want to loose any of the additional content.

I think the strongest part of the game are actually the optional tombs. The puzzles are interesting and it's the part mostly reminding the old tomb raiders. The whole crafting and resource gathering does seem a bit unnecessary. The fighting although sometimes forced is pretty well executed. There's also plenty of chances to take a stealthy approach which is very nice.

Overall it's a very good game. As close as you can probably get to Uncharted series on PC. And definitely worth picking up.
